He narrowed his eyes at his Trainee and stepson. "Is that what you think of me?"

Leo's grin didn’t waver. "I didn’t say that’s what I THOUGHT, did I?" He pointed out. 'I never said "I think you’re old!' I made a statement," he returned. Across the clearing, he could see the brief vaguely amused, vaguely concerned look Shadow gave him before she returned her attention to Everest.

"It..." Max sighed heavily. "You’ve seen me and Moon together. We are mates, we’ve had Pups. You’ve seen the physical expression of affection, and have met the spawn of the thing called love, but it connects on a mental and emotional level too. Dependency, trust, care for each other deeply, it’s...difficult to describe."

"Oh right!" Catania perked up, looking at her mother. "I promised I’d bring prey in for Klaus, Frost, and Jasmin earlier, and I never did!" She exclaimed, then lowered her voice, not wanting to startle anyone. "I’m going to go do that, I think I saw fresh squirrels on the pile, but if you need me, just howl and I’ll be here, mum!" She licked her mother's shoulder before heading off. Not before nudging the roaming Trey back towards Moon, though.

Ash chuckled, and bumped Leo with his shoulder.

"I see..." Hmm... I wonder if I could work with that...

"See? See? I picked up your weird logic thingy!" Leo chirped, seeming excessively proud of himself, like a Pup himself again for just a brief moment in time. He wanted to rise up and paw at his trainer with the words, but was still mindful of Janai, riding on his shoulders. Oh calm down, Leo! You’re not a Pup anymore, and you have to set a good example FOR the Pups that ARE still babies. He reminded himself.

Max shrugged, but even that notion made his muscles tense and ache. "Sorry, I’m not quite sure how to explain it. Most if not all young wolves find it in their own time, in their own way," the Alpha put in. "I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Love and a crush are similar things, love is a more enhanced and deeper connection of it, on an entirely different level, and a crush is..." he lifted the air, catching the unmistakable scent of his eldest. "THAT." He nodded towards the den entrance just as Catania rushed in, carrying the squirrels.

"HidadhiJasminhiKlaus- wait he’s sleeping- hi Frost!" Catania chirped all in one breath after she’d dropped the rabbits, bouncing on her paws. She’d hoped she’d find the youngest Healer there, and had thought his scent was fresh, but it was hard to tell where that one would be and when. He was always...off on his own, doing his own thing and never explaining anything. Mysterious!

He smiled. "You certainly did. Maybe you'll be able to argue the same way I do someday?"

Frost turned towards the entrance, just barely having a chance to see Catania before she greeted him. "Good morning, Catania."

Although arguing was not what Leo was being trained for, quite honestly he just idolized his trainer, and the idea of anything Ash said that ended with 'like me someday' piqued his interest. Leo perked up, ears pricking and his ice blue eyes lighting up. "I hope so! Sky-Dogs know wolves argue anyway from time to time, I may as well know how to WIN. That’s what you teach me anyway, right? How to win?"

Catania perked up at this. She glanced at her father, then looked back at Frost. Clearly they’d been having a discussion, and normally she might’ve felt bad for her interruption, but one, she’d brought food, and two, Frost had ACKNOWLEDGED her, instead of pushing her off to the side or just staring straight through her. She touched her nose to her father's shoulder in greeting, then nudged one of the squirrels towards him, and one towards Frost. "I brought breakfast!"

"Yes and no. Not everything is about winning. But I do teach you to do your best in everything."

The Healer thought about his response for a moment. Normally he would've responded sarcastically, along the lines of 'I can see that', but he was still thinking about what Max had been telling him, so instead, he nodded. "Thank you. I haven't had a chance to eat yet today." He leaned down and took a bite of the squirrel.

Leo considered that. His goofy expression calmed again, settling once more into the usual expression he carried, which didn’t display a whole lot of any one emotion in particular, jumpy as the young Trainee often felt. "But you’re training me to become a good Warrior, which means winning. And...I like to think I do my best at everything. I mean...I survived almost nine months on my own, didn’t I?" He pointed out.

Catania had expected to be brushed off, or at least a sarcastic response, and was admittedly confused, yet happy, and slightly concerned, when he simply thanked her and began eating, but maybe...he didn’t want to be super sarcastic about it anymore for some reason? Was there a chance, even the SLIGHTEST, that he might be warming up to her? The wispy grey she-wolf settled herself next to her father, debating whether to try and make small talk, or just sit in silence.

Ash nodded. "You did. And I'm very proud of you."

Frost watched her slightly out of the corner of his eye. She likes me, hmm? Maybe... I think I can use this. If she wants my attention, I can make her work for it, and get her to work for free...

Leo wanted to close the distance those few paces and bury himself against his trainer's fur, but he was supposed to be taking care of a Pup now, not BEING a Pup himself. He’d long since lost that luxury, the second his name had been called out as a Warrior Trainee, he’d had to learn that it was time to grow up, and grow up he had, considerably, though his excessive energy- though it could be tamed- never disappeared.

Although it was subtle, Catania was sure she could feel eyes on her, and just for a moment when Frost's gaze flicked towards her, she caught it. "What’s with the weird looks?" She finally asked before she could stop herself. Her tone held no coldness or defensiveness, just curiosity and perhaps...concern.
