Neptune snorted. "I'll agree with that, It is a pleasure to meet you Cygnus." he spoke gently, raising himself taller. His attention was snagged only momentarily by another, bulkier figure approaching the other filly whom had left in the distance. He couldn't help the soft pang of disappointment as she did not turn and flee from the other colt. However he returned his gaze to the filly before him, she was his priority now. He'd deal with the other colt and filly once he had become acquainted with cygnus. After all, leaving now to challenge the figure in the distance might very well drive both of the fillies away, which would accomplish nothing other than a fight for little reason. "Was your birth herd as beautiful as yourself?"he inquired with a playful tilt of his head. "because surely I would have noticed such beauties trotting along the plain?" he flirted with gentle ease wanting to ease the mood after the other mare's rather abrupt absence. It was only after the words had come from his mouth did he realize how harmful they could have been, could this mare be sensitive about the lack of adults? Perhaps she lost those close to her? Immediately he regretted his word choice, but stayed silent about it hoping that she wouldn't reject him for his lack of forethought.

With an amused twitch of her ears at his playful response to the fillies surrounding him, minerva took in his name. Tasting it in her mouth before introducing herself to the older colt. "I suppose I am," she nickered gingerly. "I'm Minerva, it's a pleasure to meet you atreus." his name fit him, regal for the muscled colt before her. Perhaps he wouldn't be that horrible a choice for a dominant stallion, she could see her mother approving of him and he had clearly made himself a prime prize. Once again minerva let her gaze skirt the fillies around her, perhaps, should she choose to join his herd, a few of these would be her herd mates. One may even end up being her lead mare.. The thoughts of what could be intrigued her however now her attention return to atreus. Cocking a hind leg minerva examined the colt almost lazily, attempting to forget the nerves that still occasionally fluttered in the pit of her stomach.

"Quite the interest," she commented casually gazing about though it was hard to take her eyes off the flattering colt.

The young filly tensed up as the two stallion's squeals and screams erupted over the pounding hooves. It took everything to stop her muscles from freezing up to bolt. Kahlia had seen her sire chase away her older brothers, but nothing something so intense before. Throughout the chaos, the small connemara stood silently, staring intensely at the two colts. Oriel veles was proving to be the better fighter while he circled the new colt biting and nipping at the offender's neck. Then the battle ended as abruptly as it began. The younger paint colt bolting off in a storm of dust cloud, leaving behind an angry Oriel veles. "Um, are you alright?" Kahlia whinnied softly to the chestnut colt, frowning slightly. It was a little flattering to have two stallions fight for her, and the filly besides her. The grey filly had never had this experience and it left her feeling quite appreciated by Oriel. She had always been the small runt, even though it was only her genetics passed from her mother, and her mother before that. Kahlia moved forward besides the huffing stallion and rested her head on his wither to comfort Oriel. "Thank you for fighting for us, I'd never had a stallion do that with me." she said, staring into the distance.

"Cloud. That's a fitting name for a pretty mare like you" Kairon nickered softly to the white filly. "Susceptible to sunburn?" The dapple grey colt frowned, gently sniffing the other horse's nose. Kairon himself has a pink snipe on his nose, but he rarely feels the heat getting to him. "Is the sun too harsh now? Perhaps we need to get under shade?" he offered. Kairon was not about to let some... sun-related problems discourage him from getting to know some fillies. He knew this would be a major problem in the future, but its not alright to ignore and discard a horse like this. Sensing the uncertainty of Cloud's answer and her downward cast stare, the oldenburg added, "If you're keen to join me, I'll not leave your side just because of some sunburns. " Kairon reached out his rose sniffing the white filly and gently nuzzled her side to prove his point.

Kairon watched as the silver grullo filly slowly made her way across the waterhole. She was a stunning beauty too, with long flowing silvery mane and tail dragging behind her. "Just a little." the oldenburg colt snorted jokingly, glancing at the silver grullo filly. He would really love to have these two fillies join him, but he shouldn't be too hasty. After all, pressuring them to band together would end badly. "To catch the eye of two beautiful fillies like yourself, I'd have to." Kairon nickered playfully, introducing himself and his acquaintance. "This here is Cloud, and I'm Kairon. Nice to meet you." The dapple grey colt had hoped to sound confident and mature enough to attract the newcomer, but he would still be disappointed if the fillies reject him.

Sábia turned to the halflinger filly attempting to make conversation "What do you think of this colt?" she said softly as the friesian was busy calling out to the scattered fillies around the water hole. "Do you think you'll stay?" Artreus had already managed to gain the attention of several young fillies across the waterhole, it would be hard for the colt to round them up and get to know every single one. If he succeeds, this is going to be a large herd. Although this was bound to happen in the future, Sábia is not sure what would happen with a herd of young inexperienced fillies. Though surely safety is with the increase of numbers. The grulla filly watched as grey andalusian slowly made her way towards their huddled circle, nickering softy to Arteus. "Hello there, I'm Sábia." she introduced herself to the new fillies as the black colt moves forward to greet them.

Ziva tensed slightly when the bulky stallion moved forward to sniff her neck but stood still as draft introduced himself as Galileo. The tobiano responded calmly, studying the colt in front of her. "A nice name for a draft horse like yourself, you can call me Ziva." She had no plans of joining a herd prior to meeting Galileo, although it seems like company is always appreciated. Ziva moved forward to gently nip the colt on the withers playfully. She wondered what this stallion would turn out to be. Lively, stoic or light-hearted? So far, he had proven himself to be charming and agreeable but is he able to protect her when the time comes? Heavy draft horses such as Galileo are not a common sight on their valley, and the Marwari had never met one before. Being a agile and swift light breed herself, Ziva's not even sure they're a right pair for each other. "Tell me, have you ever courted a mare before?" Ziva neighed, swishing her tail around to bat the flies but also spreading her heat scent. "Or am I the first one?" Perhaps she would stick with this colt for now, after all being together is better than wandering alone on the grasslands.

"Thank you, Ziva." The name took him a moment to think about before he replied to the strange-eared filly. "Ziva the Zinger. What a name." A charmingly mischievous grin was plastered across his bulky head. Galileo was not usually so playful and mischievous, but this mare seemed to bring out the playful in him. When Ziva gently nipped him in a playing manner, he tossed his head up, then bumped his nose to Ziva's. Galileo could smell her heat but he ignored it, knowing that paying it attention would be just what Ziva wanted. A feisty mare like her, even if she'd become friendly, was probably looking for any trace of a lack of wisdom or experience. "I've courted a few mares before. However, the older ones always steered clear of colts. I know I could have protected them well, they just didn't think the same. Of course, they never knew me. I've been on my own for a year now, but some of that was spent hiding from this disease and those humans with their ropes." His facial expression turned disdainful at the thought of humans, but quickly returned to a calm smile. Galileo also swished his tail, silently cursing at those blood-sucking flies.

Snitch accepted his whinny with a brief nod of her head. The colt was still speaking to the other filly, a pure white Lipizzan. The colt appeared to be getting rather annoyed with this mare, but was keeping his annoyance at bay. Ah, good for him. Snitch had nothing better to do than graze and tempt a colt, so she planned on playing that game. This colt was probably eager to get a two-in-one deal, but Snitch planned on being a piece of work. Apparently, so did the other filly. While she waited for him to finish his conversation, one way or another, with the all-white filly, she inspected him. He was stunning and stood out from a distance - his black mane and tail were jet black. His coat was an interesting dappled color she'd never seen before. Snitch had seen buckskins, and she'd seen dappled, but never a dappled buckskin with dark accents mixed in. The Mustang and Akhal Teke crossbreed's mind soon wandered to what interesting foals they might have together. Should she, of course, accept the offer that would soon be coming her way. Snitch was curious to see how the colt would interact with her. Would he take the flattering approach? Be kind and truthful? Cold and calculating?

Estrella was so glad that this filly took the time to speak with her. Company was something so nice that she only appreciated when it had left and then returned. Estrella nodded, accepting Persephone's greetings and Styx's with a smile. "My name is Estrella." Her smile widened when she heard Styx, and the young words of wonder. "I was born with them, but thank you." Her attention went back to the other filly, who appeared to have close to a year on her. "Um, not too well, I suppose? I'm an introvert. It's a little frightening to be on my own. Uh, especially looking for a stallion." That was the understatement of the year. The thought of looking for a stallion on her own made her extremely anxious. What is she was snaked into a herd by a draft and he was a cruel, oppressive stallion? "Uh, yeah-" Her words were cut short as a flash of terror crossed the Appaloosa filly's face. A group of a few crows had shot out of the trees, causing the already tense filly to spook. Estrella leapt sideways, legs all entangled with each other. The whites of her eyes were showing brightly. A piercing whinny escaped her mouth before she could regain control of herself. Estrella shook her mane hard, and lowered her head guiltily. When she looked up again, a heavy, embarrassed blush covered her face. The whole watering hole must've heard her. How could they not? She had acted like an immature, skittish filly, not the calm mare vibe she was trying to project to cover up her true introverted and anxious nature. "I'm so, so, so-rry." She stuttered in an embarrassed tone. "They- I was- Sorry. Sorry." Her head hung heavily with guilt.

Mabel was glad this filly took the time to say hello. She was worried that she'd be left all alone again. "Thalia." The Arabian foal took a moment to think about this new information. "I like that name." She said decisively. Mabel saw the questioning in the filly's eyes and it made her question her own situation. Why was she alone? Why was no one taking care of her? No fillies from her herd had stepped forward to help her. "Well.. My mother died. She was infected by the disease." Her voice was laced with melancholy. Mabel didn't understand why her mother had to leave, but this was what she had been told by the other members of her herd. "I was adopted by a different mare but she disappeared when the two-legs with their shiny metal animals showed up. The rest of my herd was separated from me. I don't know where anyone is and - and- and, I'm lost." She ended pitifully, stumbling over words. Mabel suddenly felt very tired, thinking of how far she'd come from her home lands where her herd had stayed. It couldn't have been more than three miles, but to a seven-month-old foal like Mabel, that distance felt like a whole universe.

The painted colt listened to the filly's words, before gazing into her deep eyes. Her beautiful deep brown eyes. He finally, snapped his gaze away for a fe

thing quite familiar and yet he had never met this filly before. He tossed his head, before finally regaining himself so he was able to speak again. His
ears twitched at her words, and he snorted more so in embarrassment than anything else. He never had anyone comment him in anyway and this filly ju

away he tilted his head slightly. "Since a yearling you say? I can't say I've been alone that long, but truthfully I don't mind. You know with not having a h

he said his eyes alight just thinking about traveling through this world.

she said with a quick glance around once more. Finally, she said what she knew had to be done. "Why don't you stay with me? I'll take care

she said her eyes brightening slightly. If, she didn't take the foal in then who would? Besides she was sure she was going to like Mabel making it

He gave a brief snort before lowering his head and neck, ears pinned back as he made his way to her, going in to snap at her haunches to herd her back to him and in the direction of the other mare. He wasn't going to let her slip away so easily, and he wanted the other mare to know he was capable of keeping his mares in check. If she tried to run away he was sure to follow pursuit, hopefully snaking her back towards the other filly. He looked back to the other mare, Snitch, giving another friendly nicker. Ophelia looked around at the fillies and colts near to her, many beginning to interact with each other, though some others hanging along the sidelines like Ophelia. It wasn't as though she was scared or nervous, in fact, the friesian filly was more than excited to start greeting some others, and perhaps join a herd if a capable-looking stallion came across. She tossed her head briefly, glancing over at a bigger group with her expressive dark brown eyes. A handsome colt seemed to be in the middle of it, and while he nickered out to her and a few lone fillies near to her, she simply snorted it off and began to trot away from the large group. He had many other fillies near to him, and she was one who wanted to be won over rather than just added into a collection, and it looked as though snaking up any approaching fillies would be a smart decision to keep all his mares in order.

She still kept near the watering hole, until she spied a handsome looking stallion nearby. He was alone, and she called out to him with a inviting nicker, staring at him with keen interest.

Snitch couldn't help but notice the mare throwing a bit of a fuss. She was just trying to distance herself, but Snitch knew what kind of stallion this was, and if you didn't run he'd snake you. Snitch felt a bit of worry in her. She didn't want her courting experience to be a nip on the haunches and an angry threat. Snitch took a breath and thought about who she was - a sassy, confident mare. This stallion couldn't faze her. After snaking the other mare back towards him, he looked to Snitch with a nicker. It was intended to be friendly, but they both knew it wasn't. Snitch lifted her head, no longer eating grass. Snitch felt tempted to take off, but she forced herself to walk towards him, listening to what he had to say. "Oh, it's no problem," She said from about ten feet away. Snitch then made a quick decision and turning, tail swinging. She was headed away, wherever that might take her. Snitch picked up a brisk trot, whinnying goodbye. "Sorry, gotta split." She called to the aggressive stallion. Snitch wondered if he'd try to snake her.

Mabel nodded slowly. She wanted to believe this nice filly, but wasn't so sure. Who would take care of her? Her ears flicked back when she heard a few crows nearby, but soon resumed their normal position when she realized they were just flying birds. "You... you want me?" Her ears flicked back and forth in uncertainty, her little brown tail swinging. Her voice slowly became more excited as she spoke. "I would love to stay with you! Thank you, thank you, thank you, new mommy!" The little filly danced in delight. Her dished Arabian classic nose high in the air. Mabel calmed herself down enough to joyfully trot back to her 'new mommy'. Thalia was only around a year and a half older, but Mabel trusted her like she was the oldest and wisest mare ever to live. Besides, new mommy was much bigger than she was and therefore able to provide protection. Mabel was curious about what Thalia planned to do - would they look for other horses and make a herd like the group Mabel had been in before? But what if they didn't want a young foal like her to worry about? Would Thalia abandon her if it meant that Thalia could join the herd? Her head drooped sadly. This was temporary, wasn't it?

003. meeting roulette and watching a new stallion

Postby baby blue » Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:43 am

    ━━━━━ ( “ ᴠᴏʟᴄᴀɴɪᴄ ᴀsʜ ” )
ash \\ filly \\ andalusian \\ no herd \\ at watering hole \\ heat stage 02 \\ roulette, osiris and snitch mention
a friendly nicker traveled from down the edge of the water. lifting her head, ash surveyed the area to her right and settled on another filly, an almost solid black horse save for the white marking on her forehead. ash responded with one of her own, an invitation to join her. it seemed one was not needed as the filly was already making her way towards her, even greeting her. ash’s ears were pricked forward in interest. “hello,” she responded. “the name is ash, what’s your name?”

two rapid movements tore her attention away from the other filly. across the watering hole, ash could see what she figured to be a colt based on his posture and two fillies. it seemed that the white one was backing away, maybe? she couldn’t be too sure from her distance. nevertheless as the stallion came in to nip at her haunches, it seemed the other filly had an idea to make a quick exit, based on the fact that she was hauling tail in a direction opposite the stallion. it was safe to say her interest was piqued. what could be so wrong about this stallion that two fillies were trying to leave at once. “want to go on an adventure with me?” she asked the other filly with a curious tilt to her head.

the colt made sure to keep an eye on both the fillies before him as well as the others by the water's edge not far away. they may not have come to join in the chat circle that seems to have developed, but they were still possible herd mates should they wish. atreus chuckles at minerva as she greets him and the other fillies next to him. it was nice to see her amused expression and light words instead of a guarded tone and harsh gaze. not that he could blame her if she looked at him with such ice, but it was nice to see warmth instead. the colt is quite pleased with himself when minerva visibly relaxes, cocking a leg and lazily gaze about, sometimes fluttering her gaze over him as if assessing him or something. which he doesn't mind, he quite likes being gazed upon by lovely fillies since he knows he looks good with his coal black coat and chocolate eyes. too bad he didn't get the hazel eyes his sister had, what a striking sight that would be.

atreus doesn't hear sabia and gaia's soft whispering, his attention was far too stretched to pick up on such soft sounds. though he does pick up on sabia's name once she greets minerva and makes sure to take mental notes as he pieces together everything about each filly he comes in contact with. his mother had taught him to always keep track of names and things since mares hate it when you forget their name or something vital about their personality, such as if they are a very much physical and need a touch every once in a while. seems like half his birth herd were such a way since his sire constantly circled around to give bumps and nudges before settling to eat or patrol the herd's perimeter. he wonders if his fillies will be the same way, not that he'll mind giving loving touches to his precious ladies, he'll probably do it anyway even if they don't necessarily need it.

breaking from his idle thoughts, atreus hears some commotion by the water's edge and immediately goes on full alert. his head shoots up from where it was held comfortably and his ears perk before rotating around in search of the threat. the dark colt quickly moves his large body around minerva and sabia to put himself between the water and the fillies he had been chatting with. a sharp, hard snort comes from the stud as he looks for the danger, but then sees it was only estrella at the water spooking from birds coming from the forest. the filly's sudden and loud spook had put atreus into protective mode in an instant, but after seeing there was no true danger, he relaxes once more. atreus nickers to each of the fillies behind him to make sure they were alright.
"are you all alright? it was just a spook, nothing to worry about," he says, his voice genuine and caring as he makes sure they were all fine, they were basically his herd now so he must care for them. even if they hadn't agreed to join him yet. he looks back to the filly at the water with the other pale filly and foal before speaking again to the ones behind him. "i'm going to go check on her and see if she's alright after that scare," he hopes they will stay put and not run off now that he's moving away from them for a moment. "be sure to call out to me if there's a problem."

with a bit of a nod, he heads off to the water's edge where estrella was standing with persephone and styx, clearly still shaken by the scare that had just occurred. atreus gives a whinny to the fillies as he approaches so they know of his presence and he doesn't scare them. once close enough to speak, he nickers to each of them, but mostly to estrella.
"are you alright? i heard your distress and wanted to see if you needed any help," his tone was once again open and genuine, not snake-like and falsely concerned like most colts. his concern for her well-being was sincere and true, wanting to make sure she wasn't still in distress or danger. "my name is atreus, by the way, i have a little group just over there if you three would like to come over and mingle? we aren't a herd just yet so you don't have to worry about being forced into joining one, we're just chatting and getting to know each other." atreus keeps a friendly expression about his features to appear less intimidating which is likely what he appears to be with his large frame and dark coat, but he hopes to at least put these fillies at ease enough to learn their names.

though she hadn't really been interested in the scuffle that occurred across the valley, eos had indeed seen it play out. how embarrassing it must be for the painted colt to loose so quickly against the other red stud. the filly had seen several fights between grown stallions when she was still with her birth herd, some lasted nearly an hour while others never came to blows. it seems the painted colt doesn't have the proper skills yet to determine who he has a chance to win against. then again, she doubts if any of these colts did since they were all quite young and inexperienced. perhaps by next spring things will be much more settled and everyone will be more experienced in the ways of politics and strategy.

the grey filly starts to trot away from the two warring colts, but is quickly confronted by the loser after he fled the battle. though she knows not to be too picky with who to join, considering how little there was to choose from, she still wants the best for herself and future offspring. when she joins a colt, he will breed her and she'll have to birth his foal. protecting and nurturing a foal was hard work from what she gathered from the grown mares in her birth herd so a strong stallion is vital for the foal's survival. besides, it was instinct to want the best stallion, the best genes to make the strongest and healthiest foals. she wasn't so sure this colt was what she was looking for, but decides to humor him and stops to chat even though she already has her mind made up.
"hello, come to try and charm me into joining you?" eos keeps her tone light and rather amused, though there is a barely noticeable edge of indifference as well. "i have to say though, that little skirmish you had was quite amusing to watch." she may come off as rude with her choice of words, but it was his decision to come over and try to court her. if he doesn't like it, he can find another tail to chase.

grazing was quite boring for the young filly, but she was also quite hungry after being in the canyons where there's little food to graze upon and not much water to go around for all the youngsters that were hiding in the gorges. though she wasn't of age to breed yet, eirene was still excited for this year. there weren't any adult mares around to boss her into submission or older stallions to chase off her would-be suitors. she had been well liked by the young studs that trailed her birth herd, each wanting her for their own, but her sire always kept them away and would chase them off before she could even get their names. some of the older studs were killed by the plague while others were spared, but it seems nature has a sense of humor since none of the ones who lived were very appealing to the filly. she has a keen eye for things she likes and has an idea of what she wants in colt who was to be her foals' sire and their protector. eirene is also quite fixated on colors, wanting the best looking stud so she can have the best looking foal. it may be rather vain of her, but she likes what she likes. perhaps she can find a good strong colt with somewhat of a brain and lovely coat. it wouldn't be much fun to join a pretty looking brute with no sense of fun.

unlike her sister, enyo wasn't looking for a colt to join. she wants to be left alone and not have to deal with the drama that will take place each time a new filly joins the herd or another colt comes to test the lead colt that guards the herd. so much drama for so little reward. her interest in colts was dashed when her intended was killed by the plague some weeks ago. the grey stallion was young, but not young enough to withstand the sickness. it broke her heart when she saw him collapse while fleeing to the canyons and then returned to find him gone with the others who perished. enyo refuses to join a herd now, not wanting to deal with anyone else. she doesn't even really want to be around her twin sister much anymore. eirene was a handful and will only get worse once a colt comes along to nab her up. her sister was rather ditsy to say the least, following the shiniest coat and smoothest charm before actually thinking and evaluating. enyo is the one to evaluate each decision before going along with it, analyzing each reward and possible flaw that she would have to deal with. herds were full of flaws and not much reward so she doesn't want to deal with it. maybe one day she'll find another colt who strikes her fancy, but she doubts it will be anytime soon.

Estrella looked up, alerted by a whinny. The voice belonged to none other than the handsome black colt. He began to come closer, and Estrella felt her muscles tense. Her nerves were already shot at her huge spook, now the stress was overwhelming. His nicker hardly made her feel better. She isn't yet sure what kind of colt he is, but any colt with good sense would calmly nicker and show her kindness like he is doing so far. When he arrived in front of her nose, she finally had the chance to take the look of his sleek colt and muscular frame. Not too muscular to weigh him down, but enough that he is clearly a strong-built horse. Estrella heard her mother's voice echoing in her head telling her what a good stallion he'd make. Estrella wasn't ready to be convinced, but bobbed her head in thanks to the Friesian's words. "Yes, I'm alright. Fine, even." Her embarrassment caused her words to come out a bit defensively. Estrella hadn't intended to be so defensive, but she was in her most vulnerable state. It made her pinker to think that the colt had stopped his conversations to make his way across the watering hole to her, like she was a young foal who had squealed out. "I'm Estrella." Her words were simple, this time without the defensive tone as much as she'd like to use it. "Th-Thank you for the offer." Estrella hoped he would move along after saying his lines, but of course he didn't. The Appaloosa filly felt anxious around him. What did Persephone have to say about Atreus, she wondered. Estrella looked towards the other filly for guidance, hoping that Persephone was braver than she was.

This was temporary, wasn't it?

pix exhaled, strutting to the waterhole and lowering her head. the braids her rider had lovingly tied in her ma
ne were beginning to come out now, mismatched tufts of straight blackness protuding from between the neat
ropes. she glanced at the other mismatched horses as she drank. although she wouldn't admit it to anyone, no
colts had never really been interested in her before, and she was interested to see if any would be after the h
umans and adult horses were gone. she swished her long tail against the grasses, moved away from the water
and went to graze, or maybe to interact with some of the other stragglers.
