Spring was well under way, and the scent of heat is starting to dominate in the wind. Last year, Kairon was busying himself learning the art of being a stallion in a bachelor herd, with many older, mature stallions. Now he is here figuring things out in a whim. It doesn't help that there are many colts around, some older, some younger. But nevertheless would be a pain in the butt if they decided to challenge him in the future. Kairon snorted, shaking his head, if they try, he'll give them a reason to back off in the future. Hoping to bring some nearby fillies to his attention, he nickers quietly to avoid the extra attention from the other colts. Kairon is uninterested in the yearling fillies, they are too young to breed and too young to understand herd dynamics. Instead, he's on the lookout for the mature, older fillies who are somewhat more experienced than the others.

Today, Kahlia assured herself that she would find some other horses to follow. For safety. She had somehow survived the winter by jumping from one group of yearlings to another. But the other horses were always uninterested in her, and often were trying to intimidate her off better grazing grounds. Maybe, she thought, maybe she would get herself a stallion, a colt to be precise. That way she would be protected...but well they have to like her first, the grey filly thought. Many of the colts towered above her, often mistaking her for a much younger filly. Kahlia sighed. She trotted across the greening valley her eyes scanning the horizon. Several of the colts and fillies that harassed her during wnter were still here, grazing under the morning sun. Kahlia rolled her eyes. "Guess it's time to move on to another place." she neighed out.

The previous winter had being somewhat kind to Sábia and her former herd mates, they were lucky to find a sheltered place to stay put during the worst of the elements. But now it's spring, and the fillies following her had being tempted by the colts floundering around as if they owned the valley. Not her though, the slightly older sorraia had decided against following immature, yearlings. Sábia starts trotting to a nearby water hole, rolling her eyes when she spots young colts kicking up dust, trying to impress some filly. She scans the scatter of horses around, noticing a few older colts eyeing her. They'll have to try harder than that, she snorted. Sábia had learned much of the herd structure and the basics from her dam, although she is still unsure about it all. Above it all, she's feeling her heat progressing. Sábia is quite anxious about getting a foal this year, as the colts would be inexperienced with herd dynamics. She wondered if they would even succeed in protecting her if she ever join a herd. With many thoughts in her head, the filly lowers her head to take a long drink, relishing the fresh water down her throat.
