- the large brute was barely visible where he lay, practically covered in a blanket of snow that made him look like a mound of the frozen ice rather than a living, breathing creature. about a month ago he had found this big tree, with a small hole at its base that he could just barely squeeze through, allowing him to curl up inside the hollowed out inside to get away from the direct line of cold. however the blizzard that struck this last night had been snowing down at an angle, and the snow had entered his little “home”, hence why he had the white sheet over his large body. waking up that morning to the light of the sun shining through the small opening directly into his eyes, he squinted as he shook the sleep from his eyes. squeezing his large form out of the small hole, he shook his entire body, causing the ice and snow to fall to the ground, revealing his dark gray and black coat underneath. honestly he didn’t even feel the cold under his paws anymore, his paw pads being covered in hard callouses that had frozen over long ago. he felt a pang in his stomach and knew he needed to eat; it had been days since he had caught anything, and if he didn’t eat soon his body would start shutting down on him. lifting his muzzle to the air, he breathed in deeply the crisp air and that’s when he caught the scent of a quail not too far away. he instantly went into hunting mode and crouched to the ground, stalking his way towards the direction of the bird as best as he could, taking extra precaution of his hind leg limp to not give him away. his mismatch eyes landed on the quail just a few steps away from him and he was about to leap when his back leg slipped on a small ice piece and the bird tensed. he didn’t have time to stop and think he just jumped at it and grabbed the bird by the neck, ending its life quickly. he licked his lips at the thought of his first meal in days, and that’s when his eyes landed on the small form of a Black and Tan pup laying down in the snow. immediately his ears perked and nostrils flared, seeking the presence of the tiny creatures parents but he was the only one that he could locate with his senses. Slowly he approached the pup, laying on his stomach and crawling up to him to appear smaller and non-threatening, and he places the quail down infront of the pup. ”hey little one. are you alone? are you hungry? I’m Elijah but you can call me Eli if that’s easier.”

❀. ── ❝ yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win. ❞
- the petite brown and white spaniel has gotten a fair amount of sleep that night; she had grown used to the raging sounds of a blizzard happening just outside the den, and so to her it was a relatively soothing sound that helped her drift off to a deeper sleep. she couldn’t dream if it was silent, finding herself kept awake by the awkwardness of the atmosphere when it was too quiet. as she awoke that morning, she remained in her place, not so much as lifting her head. one thing she enjoyed about sleeping in the shared warrior/gatherer den was the supply of warm bodies to provide body heat for one another while they slept; she had longer fur but it wasn’t necessarily as thick as some of her packmates had, unfortunately. so she allowed herself to soak up the warmth for as long as she possibly could; her rest was ended by the familiar face of her alpha peering into the den to wake them all up for the morning meeting. pulling her petite frame to its paws, she shook out her fur, a few pieces of dirt flying, before making her way out of the den and up to the flat where jagger awaited the rest of the pack. she dipped her head to him in a silent greeting as she sat on his left side, leaving his right side open for the pack beta jasmine. ”morning jagger. with the prey dwindling, other predators are becoming more desperate. we caught scent of a bear last night not too far from the pack border. if you can spare them, id like at least one warrior on each gathering party for now, for safety reasons.” she made sure her voice was soft so that it wouldn’t be overheard by the pack; she didn’t want to worry them unnecessarily about a possible bear attack that may never happen.
