⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀driven and worship 3 gods: ra, ruler of the sun, khonshu, ruler of the moon, and tefnut, controller of the weather.

farewell
‣ when a bird reaches of age where they are no longer able to perform their duties, a farewell ceremony is performed. The bird is thanked for their service and surrounded by the whole colony, who will each one by one thank them for their service to the colony. They are then placed upon the prophet's spot on the great tree and their neck is quickly and painlessly snapped by the prophet while the colony chants their name, as a way of sending them off to the gods. they are left out in clear view of the stars so their spirit may find its way and then buried the next day.

month's end
‣ at the end of the month all leftover food is sacrificed to the ruler of the sun, Ra, as thanks for the light she provides.

year's end
‣ at the end of the year a fantastic celebration takes place. mates dance with one another, fledglings are soared through the air on their parent's careful wings, joy fills everyone's hearts. at the end of the day a silent vigil is taken by all to thank the gods for their gifts to us.

fledgling promotion
‣ when fledglings reach 3 months of age they are promoted to trainees. they are flown to the great tree to greet the prophet, whom will announce that they are ready to begin their training and will assign them a mentor.

trainee promotion (gatherers)
‣ after 6 months of training, trainees will be promoted to gatherers. the prophet will thank the mentor for their service and ask them to perform a speech about the trainee. they then serve a silent vigil for the rest of the night.

trainee promotion (iron-claws)
‣ after 9 months of training, trainees will be promoted to iron-claws. the prophet will thank the mentor for their service and ask them to perform a speech about the trainee. the prophet will then scratch the trainee's beak, signifying their first battle scar. they then service a silent vigil for the rest of the night.

promotion to scout
‣ when a parrot is promoted to scout, it is a very important occasion. the prophet will call the bird forward and smear a red line of berry juice across the bird's beak. the colony will chant their name and the other scouts will perform a show, snatching the new recruit up and tossing them in the air as a finale.

promotion to prophet
‣ the prophet's promotion is a somber one. the day will be spent remember and mourning for the previous prophet, and many will stay silent for the whole day. the new prophet will stay in their new nest for the whole day.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Perched upon the aged roots of a kapok, the ebony cockatoo watched the gentle stream flow softly across the smooth pebbles. It bubbled at the bottom before gathering itself and continuing its lengthy journey downhill. His exquisite, scarlet tail feathers fanned out as small flecks of the liquid sprayed upwards, escaping its confines. He took a few steps backwards. He would fly soon, and with water weighing his feathers down that simply wouldn't be possible.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ With a quick motion his wings spread, flapping restlessly at the air. His talons released their grip as he took off, soaring through the trees with great speed. He followed the sound of squawks and chirps, knowing his colony awaited him there.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ Lowering himself through the canopy, he admired the sight of his colony, hard at work. Some held flowers in their beaks, most likely as offerings. Some carried large fronds on their backs filled to the brim with seeds and fruits. As expected, the less experienced birds let them tilt and spill. The colony was well fed, however something crept into the back of his mind. It had been bothering him for some time.

Bahari glided gracefully through the skies, carefully scanning the canopies below. Everything looked usual as normal. After looking around a bit more, she flew lower into the canopies and perched on a tree branch. The weather was on the hotter side today, but not too hot for her to mind.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀The heavy beat of the macaw's wings caught his attention, tearing him from the previous thought. He glided to the branch where she perched. It was smooth, almost worn down by the countless generations of avians before them.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Opening his beak, he prepared to greet Bahari. His courtesy was interrupted by the gentle tapping of drizzle against the fronds sheltering the two parrots. "Huh. I 'spose a little rain'll do us good today." He fanned his feathers out, shaking the few stray droplets from his head plumage.

"I suppose," replied Bahari. It wasn't exactly common for her to have a chat with the prophet, and she was a bit surprised that he perched down to talk to her. "I feel like the weather just gets hotter and hotter lately," she added.
