~Alphas~
Maximum of two per pack. Wolves age three and above. They lead and protect the pack. Usually a male and female who are mates, however this is not always the case as an alpha must be chosen based on ability to do the rank. There can also be two of the same gener, or a male and female who are not mates. The Alpha and the Beta can be mates if they wish, and an Alpha can be mates with a low ranking wolf, although very uncommon. They accept wolves into the pack, often lead hunts, decides on rules and ranks, and can administer discipline when required. What the alphas say is law. One of their heirs will eventually take over, or a wolf of their choosing, and if no heir is named, then the Betas will. Sometimes an heir will be made Beta in preparation. If a disagreement occurs, the more experienced Alpha who was there first will generally make the decision, or the Gamma’s will be asked to decide. Alphas are usually ranked as I and II, with I being the one with the final decision, however not always. The Alphas must be very active in regards posts to ensure the wellbeing of their pack, deciding ranks of wolves, accepting into the pack, and making all important decisions. The Alphas, and then Betas, are given priority over other ranks as to who will produce offspring that year.
~Betas~
Maximum of two per pack. Wolves aged three and above (occasionally aged two if needed). They are second in command, the right paw to the Alpha’s, helping them. They can also accept wolves into the pack, as well as administer discipline and lead hunts, and assign jobs to other pack mates, however don’t hold as much power as the alphas. Same as, can be male or female, usually mates but often not. Betas must be very active in regards posts to ensure the smooth running of the pack. The Alphas, and then Betas, are given priority over other ranks as to who will produce offspring that year.

~Gammas~
Maximum of three per pack. Wolves seven years and above. Often retired Alphas and Betas. They share their pearls of wisdom, acting as advisers to the alphas/betas, often training the younger generations of the pack when they are still able and enjoying to share stories of their time on Earth.
~Sanatores~
Maximum of three per pack. Wolves that are experienced in the art of medicine, sometimes aided if they are literate by books they salvaged from the ‘upright walkers’. They are often the closest ones to nature, spiritual things and the upright walkers. Although they don’t need to have it to be a Sanatore, a rare and unique talent of receiving visions is sometimes seen, specifically in Sanatores. All visions should (but might not) be reported to the Alphas. Sanatores are discouraged from having a mate lest they give preference to their blood family rather than their pack family, as well as taking time away from their important job for their family, however occasionally it does occur.

~Guardians~
Maximum of four per pack. These wolves are the main protectors and guardians of the pack, often leading a life which involves more solitude than most as they are expected to often travel the pack boarders, chasing of Vagabonds and accepting new wolves. New wolves must be brought to a Beta or Alpha before being properly accepted, but these wolves are especially trained in the art of reading other wolves and deciding whether they can be allowed into the territory. They can accept them into the pack until seen by an alpha. They also are the main protectors of the pack, having to often mark the pack territory or risk wandering vagabonds from crossing, and usually are the driving force of pack hunts.
~Zetas~
Maximum of three per pack. There must be at least one female who can produce milk. The he main caregivers of the pups, although younger wolves sometimes help out. In preparation for becoming an apprentice, usually at around 6-7 months, a pup will move in with the Zetas so the mother can resume her duty in the pack. Pups must be guarded with their lives, as they are the future of the pack, so the Zetas must also be quite tough as well as untiring.
++++++++++
~Subordinate~
Unlimited. At least the age of 2. The main body of the pack, they hunt, defend, and obey higher ranks. In return, the pack warmly accepts and protects them. Subordinates are crucial to the packs survival, as well as the other ranks.
~Apprentice~
Unlimited. Pups 8 months and older, or wolves who are too inexperienced for anything else. These young wolves are undergoing training to take over from the older wolves. The Alphas, or occasionally Betas, assign a mentor to an apprentice however mentors can request certain apprentices. Only certain wolves that are most qualified can be mentors, and it is a considered a honour. Once training is complete, the Alpha will assign them a rank. Although the apprentices do train for a rank, they might not get it, depending on their skills and rank availability. They might have to improve or wait for a vacancy in the rank they trained to for a while. Training for some takes longer than others, generally the higher up you go the longer it takes. Training to be an Alpha may last their whole life as it will continue until a space is available or the current Alpha hands over their title. Sanatore training takes longer than others as they must be very well qualified. They can progress no sooner than at 2 years old, 24 months, to a Subordinate, however they may continue to be seen as ‘apprentices’ for a while. Apprentices are often made Subordinates first for little while before progressing to a higher rank, depending on age.

~Pups~
Maximum of 8 at a time. Characters cannot be played until 2 months, up until them the mother/surrounding wolves controls it in their posts. At around 7 months, they move in with the Zetas, and usually become an apprentice at 8 months. Please see my topic ‘pup development’ for details about ageing.
~Omega~
Unlimited. Put here because of disobedience or because the wolf is too weak and submissive for much else, this can be a temporary measure or a permanent. It is more likely for a newly joined or young pack member to be put here. This is one of many punishments available, or a wolf might not currently have the skills for a higher rank, but could be moved when such skills are gained.

~Vagabond~
Unlimited. These wolves stride alone, choosing not to associate themselves with any given pack, however sometimes (though rare) they may have been kicked out of the pack. If they are found wandering on pack lands, they are often chased off, unless they have a sincere desire to join the pack. Sanatores are not meant to help Vagabonds, or anyone else for that matter, because they would be ‘wasting’ their herbs and talents on Vagabonds when they could be used on pack mates.
~Exiles~
Unlimited. Exiled from the pack due to horrendous crimes, these twisted wolves are condemned to a life of hardship, toil and plotting. They will be chased off or killed on sight. They pose a real thread to the packs.
