Xander had been awake for a while, but had yet to move. Laying silently at the edge of the pack camp, he watched the dogs come awake, watching them go to and from, some hunting, some marking, and some just doing much the same as himself- trying to extend the world of sleep a little bit longer, watching the world wake around them. He enjoyed this quiet observation, but it wasn't very useful in the grand scheme of the day, and the older dog decided to focus on his leader and one of the other captains, both talking. He stood, giving a quick stretch and a shake of his coat, before padding over to where the two dogs stood. This was the life he was born for, and there is nothing he would do to change it. He would never go back to the cruel, harsh world of humans, and didn't even need a moment to think about it.
Bobbing his head gently to the leader, Xander greeted Cliff. "Good morning, Sir." He nodded to the fellow captain and did the same. "Good morning Caine." Looking back at the Staff mix, he spoke further, giving his usual morning report, as was his habit after observing the pack, something he was good at. "The trainees seem restless Sir. Dallas has spent the morning marking as usual, and Suka and Smokey are hunting. As for the others, they have yet to rise." He then looked at both dogs next to him. "I would suggest some training this morning Sir. The frost has gone, and it would be a good to get the youngsters out."

Lacey was curled up next to a small rock, just big enough for her to use as a wind break, but slightly too small to have any sort of shelter. Luckily, it hadn't snowed last night, and she was spared the white dusting of the cold stuff that would then soak into her coat. Not for the last time, the herder was grateful for her collie-like, double layered coat. At least the winter would be over soon. He spotted another of the dogs walk past, or bounce, was probably more accurate, and the herder smiled to herself. Getting up, she followed the young dog and, as he stopped, and flopped to the ground, she snuck up behind him as silently as she could, which was pretty silent, and then gently pressed her nose onto his back. "Morning Zeus!"
Lacey loved playing and hanging out with the youngsters in between her pack duties, and she had a particularly soft spot for the ones that really wanted to do well, and Zeus's determination admired her. The trainees all made her happy, and she really wanted to help make them the best they could be.
