Maxwell faltered as he faced Serai, inhaling deep breaths in an effort to keep his cool. The last thing he wanted was to appear weak. He was a strong dog with great determination. He just didnโ€™t feel ready for this yet. Serai on the other hand. She had experience, and just by her concern for himself alone, he felt she was the true answer to their survival. โ€œSerai. Iโ€™d like to step down. Do you think...you could resume lead? Just for the time being? I trust you could do a far better job than I ever could.โ€ He looked at the female with hope in his eyes. The decision in his favour would bring such a weight from his shoulders. His gaze hardened and he caught her eye, straightening his stance. โ€œDonโ€™t doubt Iโ€™ll still give this pack my all. I may have brought us together, and Iโ€™ll continue encouraging that. But alpha? Thatโ€™s not for me.โ€ He chuckled a little, turning to glance at the pack for just a moment. Even if he was no longer their leader, the last thing on his mind would be turning his back on these dogs.

Quinn barely thought twice about the danger of approaching a strange dog. She shot an encouraging glance at Kona before heading off to meet a white dog that had just arrived. Curious, her approach was slow as she inspected him inquisitively. โ€œHello. Iโ€™m Quinn. You?โ€ The dog looked tired, and judging by his soaked body, had gone through quite some trouble to reach the group. She sat down, her tail wrapped around her paws and looking to Kona to see if her friend had followed her over. Kona seemed a little more hesitant about meeting the others, Quinn hoped she could encourage the Aussie to adopt a little more confidence.

Kona glanced around for a moment before deciding to stray away from her companion, her sights set on the ten and white dog who laid against the earth, looking slightly bored. She trotted over to him, a friendly smile crossing her maw as her nub of a tail began to wag "Hello.. I'm Kona, you are?" The small Aussie shot her German shepherd friend a quick glance as sat herself down in front of the slightly larger dog, her slender skull tilted slightly to the side as she gazed at him, awaiting his reply.

[size=75]Cookie groaned when she heard that yet another dog might be joining them.
She glanced around at the others hoping that this wouldn't be true. And yet though she hadn't
met these dogs too long ago she knew they would let the other dog join them. She knew when
Tiger had found her that her time for traveling alone was over. But she didn't think that two
more dogs would join her along with Tiger. Okay. Maybe this wouldn't be as bad as she
was thinking it would be. Okay then. Maybe, she should think about the dogs that we're traveling
with her. First there was Tiger. He was...friendly and caring. Not the type of dog she really liked.
He was a decent size but, she was sure that if they ran into trouble he wouldn't help very much.
Then there was Chip. He acted like a puppy. He was small too. He wouldn't help much either.
And she didn't even want to count the reasons why Castile wouldn't be a good traveling partner
either. Sighing she slowly tried to get to her feet. She almost fell though but, she was not about
to fall in front of these dogs. Ignoring the pain in her leg she got up and began to slowly put her
weight on it. "Well. It's been...different being with you all. But I need to get going."
she said as she continued to slowly walk away.

Ajax laid there his tail swaying back and forth slowly. He wondered what he should do.
He glanced around watching the other dogs. He wondered if the others we're getting ready
to form a pack. If this was true then he was ready for it. He couldn't wait to join one. He
glanced skyward wondering what rank he would get. Suddenly a horrible thought appeared
in his mind: What if he didn't get a rank? The thought almost made him yelp. Not get a rank?
Not being able to join the pack? That was unthinkable. He glanced back down to gaze at his
paws. He would be a great pack member. If, they didn't let him join the pack then they would
be missing out. His tail began to sway slightly faster at the thought. These dogs we're smart-
at least he hoped-and that meant they would surely let him join. Glancing around him he
saw another dog approaching him. Another survivor he thought as he laid there thinking.
He sat up and tilted his head at her. "Name's Ajax. Nice to meet ya Kona.
Your one of the survivors that are staying right?"
he asked his tail beginning to twitch.

Kona tilted her skull to the side, analyzing the sudden panicked look the male's face took on. Perhaps he was afraid of what the future held? if so, she was on the same boat he was. The future was a scary thing at this point.. there could be another huge wave coming to wipe out the rest of the survivors any second, or some other crazy event ready to do the same. She shivered a bit at the thought, hoping with everything she had that she would be able to stay with these dogs for the rest of her days, no matter how short they may be. The red merle snapped herself out of her daydream, her shaky gaze focusing back on the larger dog and the question he'd just asked her "Likewise, Ajax. I am.. and I sure hope so.." She looked down at her paws for a moment before meeting his gaze once again, hoping she wasn't overstepping any boundaries with the question she wanted to ask "Where do you come from? were you a pet? or..?

T A Z Z
American Alsatian -- Male -- 7 Months -- Dejected, Conflicted -- open

Tazz pressed his face into the fur of his adopted mother once more, then staggered to his feet. He sniffed once, then squeezed his eyes shut. I'm alone out here now. The humans are gone- and good riddance to them, although I'll miss the convenient food source- and the rest of my pack is scattered... if they even survived this mess at all. Oh no... no, no, no. Someone else must have survived, right? I wouldn't be the only one... The pup blinked his eyes open then and looked at the sky before turning away from his place in the wreckage. He walked three steps before stopping to shake his whole body, violently throwing off dust from the disaster, and with it his overly-negative thoughts.
"You can't afford to be like this, Tazz," he whispered to himself. "Pull yourself together. It's time to get going. Mum gave her life so you could make it out of this with only bruises... don't waste that. Don't waste her sacrifice."
And with those words he drew himself up to his full height once more, wincing only slightly from the pain of his bruised left hind leg. He thought about which direction to move in before remembering the howl from before. Although he didn't recognize the one who called, he figured it would be safer to find someone else to move with, although part of him recalled the lessons of dangers from foreign packs. Well... maybe there will be someone from my old pack there, someone who had the same thoughts as me! Anyway, it's not like they have to know I'm there, right? That's it... I'll just see if I can get somewhat close, but not enough that they notice me. Like I'm stalking my prey... if I can even find them.
With that final thought, he began to purposefully slink out of the wreckage of the building, giving one look of disgust to the murky puddles that flooded the streets before moving off in the direction he hoped was where the other dogs gathered. He hoped he wasn't too late.

Chip
Male, 1 year, goldendoodle, Mentions;_ ; @ Tiger, Cookie
_____________________________

Chip watched intently, focusing and listening to everything the Pomsky was saying.
He looked up as he told Chip to grab the second pouch. His tail wagged joyfully as he grabbed the second pack, lightly clutching it in between his teeth. "Hre you gp" he said with a muffled voice as he dropped it by his paws. "What's in that one?" He then asked, head tilting to the side with curiosity. Chip wanted to know how the he was able to remember how to do all this, it seemed rather complicated in his eyes.

Chip bounced up and down. "You'll be better before you know it, Cookie!" he yapped, happy for the rottweiler. Chip helped Castile to put his stuff back, packing it back inside the pouch as neat as he could. Chip sat down, looking at Castile, tail wagging. "We heard a howl, so that's we're headed. If we leave soon we could make it in time-before dark" He said, giving him the information he requested.

He watched as Cookie began to walk away, his heart dropping. He ambled after her tail wagging. Chip's voice was softer as he spoke. "We're going to the same place, I thought?" he said. "How come you don't wanna travel with us?" Chip had always loved others, so he never really understood that some dogs wanted to be left alone, and didn't like hanging out with others. While many might consider him an adult, he really was still a puppy. Eventually he'd grow out of his childish ways though.

Chaos
Male, 5 years, German shep x Husky, Mentions; _; @ Dante, Quinn,
_____________________________

Chaos looked up at the dog that had approached him. He shot a glance at dante, seeing what he was doing but his gaze quickly fell back to Quinn, as she just had introduced herself. Chaos wouldn't lie, she was pretty. "Chaos," He said, giving her a curt nod. "Nice to meet you, Quinn," He added after a second. His tone was friendly as he spoke, pleased that a dog had approached him. She didn't seem shy, no doubt about that; she'd approached him rather quickly, with little-if any-hesitation.

Chaos always assumed he was awkward with conversation, leading to him actually being awkward in social situations. But he didn't mind this time, for some reason. She seemed friendly. Chaos shifted upward into a sitting position. His paws, underbelly, and tail were caked in mud. It slightly agitated him, he was used to being brushed and being kept clean by his owners.

"So, where'd you come from?" He asked her, head tilting to the side just a little. He wondered if she'd been a pet or a stray. At least she had saved him the trouble of walking to others to make new friends.

Aster
Female, 4 years, German shep x Irish Wh, @ Maxwell, Serai, Kona, everyone
_____________________________

Aster saw two new arrivals. Two dogs. One had approached Maxwell without hesitation. He was intimidating, she'd give him that. How would she memorize all these new names? She checked them off one by one, or at least the dogs she knew the names too; some of them she hadn't been introduced to yet, nor had she introduced herself to everyone.
Serai, Maxwell... Kona, Quinn... Winter. She listed the names off one by one, concentrating.
She looked around; the newcomers seemed alright, Aster decided. But of course, she wouldn't be sure of any of these dogs until she got to know them. So far Serai, Maxwell, and the newcomer-Dante, had earned her respect with their actions and the way they had acted so far.

She looked at the two new arrivals; September and Felicity, but didn't feel like greeting at the moment. She'd soon get to know everyone here, eventually.

โ€œI...shouldโ€™ve felt this was coming.โ€ Serai answered with a sigh. She was hesitant to accept right away. It had been quite pleasant to sit back for once. Allow someone else to make the calls. But it wasnโ€™t her speed. Her heart felt for Maxwell. He never asked for this. Heโ€™d been thrown into it. The dogs all looked up to him, and it wasnโ€™t difficult to see why. Heโ€™d brought them together. Treated each dog that arrived with a kind word and reassurance. He had a good soul. But now the pressures were finally getting to him. Was Serai really ready to take over? It was too soon since sheโ€™d lost her pack. All of them it seemed. But with a brave face, she looked to Maxwell and nodded.

โ€œI understand. As you say, itโ€™s not for everyone. You gave it your best Maxwell, anyone can see that. Iโ€™ll take over, if thatโ€™s what you wish.โ€ She respected his decision. He was truthful, and aware of his inexperience. โ€œI appreciate your decision. Iโ€™ll do my best for this pack, you can be sure of it.โ€ She puffed out her chest with pride, smiling to herself as her spirits began to lift. Maybe she needed this. Fate had given her a second chance. She wouldnโ€™t take this opportunity for granted. With a new found power in her voice, she strode back towards the others, clearing her throat to gain their attention. โ€œMaxwell and I have been talking. Weโ€™ve decided that Iโ€™ll be resuming lead for a while.โ€ She looked around at each face, searching for any question of a debate. โ€œEveryone get yourselves ready. Weโ€™ll be moving shortly to a better location we can spend the night. Keep close to one another, and watch each otherโ€™s backs. Some of you may not knownit yet, but we need each other to survive.โ€ Her alpha instincts kicking in, she held her head high with authority as she waited for the dogs to themselves ready. No one would be left behind. Not the wounded, not the sick, not the young. This, she would make sure of.

Tiger could tell the female was uncomfortable with their company. She wasnโ€™t aggressive, nor rude, but her very ambience showed she wished to be alone. Tiger could respect that. But he still felt for her. She was still wounded, even if her leg had been tended to. He didnโ€™t want to leave her right now, but was just as desperate to make it to the howl before whoever had called left the area. โ€œYouโ€™re welcome to come with us if you want, Cookie. But the decision is yours.โ€ Heโ€™d respect whatever she chose. Maybe she preferred her own company. Some dogs liked their independence, after all.

The water that now flowed beneath him was growing cold with the progression of the evening, and he found himself wishing to be elsewhere, preferably someplace dry and warm if such a spot existed. He looked to Castille, then Chip, gesturing for them to follow. It wouldnโ€™t do any of them much good to sit around in this environment. Chip in particular, whoโ€™s small body was sure to lose heat faster.

[size=75]Cookie froze when she heard the voice. She knew it was the voice of the small
dog Chip. She sighed and slowly turned towards him. He seemed to be slightly upset. He
was young though. She was pretty sure she would be fine on her own. However, he had a
point which she hated to think of. They we're going to the same place. So, they would be
traveling in the same direction anyway. In her mind though a voice kept saying she didn't
need others. She might be headstrong be she was also smart. And the smart thing to do
would be to stay with these dogs. She would never say it but, she would need to stay with
these dogs. Just a little longer. She sighed glancing at the young dog. "Well...It's just
that I'm not used to traveling with others..."
she said to the dog. She turned to
glance at Tiger. She thought for a moment wondering if she should truly do this. Taking
a deep breath she said, "I'll come...with you." she said almost
choking on the last two words. "If both of you are okay with it."
she said knowing that they would welcome her anyway.

Ajax's tail swayed slowly as he listened to the other dog. However, when she asked about
his past he was taken of guard by the question. My past...he thought
to himself. He didn't like remembering his past. Even though, there we're good times about it
he still didn't like to remember it. "Street dog." he said simply with
a nod. He answered the question a little more forceful than he wanted to. He glanced down
at his paws remembering his past. The place. The food. The dogs..." he
said to himself. His pack used to be...he didn't know how to explain it. He had lived on the
streets since the time he could remember. He had run with his pack hunted with them. Everything
he did with his pack. But sometimes we're better than others. He remembered the year when
his pack had almost starved. Remembered when his pack almost tore each other apart. He
remembered all those times. Why did it happen...? Why...? Suddenly
he thought about what he was hoping for. To join a pack. Why was that? He didn't know. Maybe,
it was because he was had forgotten about his old pack. He shook his head trying to dislodge the
thought. He glanced up looking back at the other dog. He tried to steady his breaths before saying
"Lived with a pack. Lived as a stray. How about you?"

American Alsatian -- Male -- 7 Months -- Overwhelmed -- Alone

Tazz continued striding in the direction of where he thought he heard the howl come from for a while, stopping to scent the air and ground around him every twenty paces or so. It didn't take long for him to realize, though, that his plan for heading to the pack was foolish. Although he knew he couldn't do well without one, though he'd likely survive, he knew none of the dogs there! For all he knew, they could be cannibals. With that pleasant thought the pup stopped his movement before sitting heavily on the soggy ground.
What can I even do, he mused, when there are so many choices. Should I simply run away and see where I land? Should I try to find high ground? Should I go to the pack, regardless of the fact that it isn't mine? He squeezed his eyes shut as the thoughts continued to race through his head, trying desperately to calm himself, even as some part of him argued that his fear was justified. Oh, no matter how much I try to act like I'm not, I'm only a pup! How is one pup supposed to face all this alone? For all I know, everyone could have died! Maybe even the old den was destroyed! Wait a minute, that's it! The old den! Oh, if anyone survived they'd surely head there as well! I know exactly where it is, even in this changed land. It's not far at all!
With a renewed fire in his eyes, the pup shot to his feet and began to run. He sprinted through the wreckage, mind focused solely on his goal. When he encountered obstacles, he made his way around them, or leaped expertly over them. Or so he would tell you later- in all honestly, he stumbled quite frequently as familiar paths were littered with new designs, even face-planting at one point. But he was nothing if not determined, and made it to his goal, bursting into the den through a garbage-covered opening on the side that his mother had shown him as an additional escape route. He could help himself and let out a hopeful, habitual yell of "I'm home," hoping beyond all hope to hear a response. When only his own echo responded, Tazz couldn't take it anymore. With a choked cry, he moved to the "bed" he'd once shared with his mom at the center of the room and dropped to the ground. Hiding his face beneath his paws, he could do nothing but cry quietly until he drifted off into a restless sleep, fully knowing that he would wake once more with the slightest of noises.

His face was etched with relief and he wore a beaming smile at Seraiโ€™s final decision. โ€œThank you. These dogs here deserve someone whoโ€™ll lead โ€˜em right. I know youโ€™ll be great.โ€ He knew heโ€™d made the right choice. Serai wasnโ€™t power hungry or demanding of dominance. Just completely willing to take over. He followed her with a slight spring in his step, pleased to view the pack from this preferred perspective. She definitely knew how to speak as a leader. Once sheโ€™d finished, he looked around for anyone who may disagree with her new position. It was possible there would be objection. Maxwell just hoped there wouldnโ€™t be any right now. They needed to move, after all. There wasnโ€™t much time for anything such as that. Grateful to be moving at last, he moved around the dogs, ensuing everyone was preparing for their journey ahead. Finally, he came to a stop beside Aster. โ€œHowโ€™s your leg? Can I help?โ€ He offered a smile and stood close, just in case she needed his support.

German Shepherd Mix ~ Past: Pet ~ 3 Years ~ Female ~ Bisexual ~ Tags: Chaos

Quinn was pleased to see Kona making her own effort to meet a new face. She seemed a little less outgoing, but she needed to reassurance as she approached one of the males. Quinn flashed a smile before facing the dog in front of her. He looked interesting. It was pleasant to meet yet another friendly face. He looked a little irritated. Perhaps by the mud and grime that caked the dense fur of his underbelly. Quinn wasnโ€™t exactly pristine either. Her paws were black from her short journey here, and her coat still damp from their wet environment. But Chaos seemed to have travelled a little further than herself. He had arrived later, after all. Once the question of her past was raised, she answered without a second thought. โ€œI was a pet. I lived with my family in Manhattan. As you can tell, this sort of thing is all new to me.โ€ She looked around at the dogs with a hint of confusion. She didnโ€™t know an entire lot about pack systems, and was a little concerned about where things would head from now. But it was still in her best interests to stick around, at least for the time being. Her attention was directed to Serai, as the female addressed they would be moving. She was in charge now it seemed. Quinn didn't have a problem. She was more than happy to follow directions. โ€œLooks like weโ€™re moving on. So Chaos, you know all about me. How about you? Iโ€™m guessing by that collar youโ€™re no stray either.โ€ She stood up, still facing Chaos. Maybe sheโ€™d join him for the journey. She could use the company.
