Forlorn, Serai parted with the corpse that lay immobilised, crushed by the weight of fallen rubble. โIโll see you on the other side, my friend.โ With these words, she left the dog sheโd once considered her most faithful companion, biting back tears and refusing to look back. Serai knew she shouldnโt have left the dogs that morning. With food in short supply, sheโd ordered everyone to split up over the city and head off alone. She too, had gone her own way. There was no going back on this mistake. No dog would stand a chance against a disaster of this scale. It was a miracle sheโd made it out alive. Alive but alone. She blinked softly as she studied the area for any sign of life. There was little use in looking now. The wave had taken everything. And what it had missed, the tumbles of rubble had surely wiped it out.
Seraiโs eyes widened as she peered down at the deep waters. This would prove challenging. Navigating a flooded city for a dog unable to swim probably wasnโt the best idea. She took a deep breath and cleared the water with a leap, latching onto the next rooftop and pulling herself from harms way. As she finally made it onto the flat ground, she stopped dead, her eyes locking upon a dark figure a short distance away; a large black dog. Serai was both hopeful and relieved to see another dog, but kept her guard up. With her head down, she watched quietly, tilting her head as the dog paused to call out a mighty howl. She relaxed, feeling the intention of this dog was in fact to draw in anyone nearby. Serai composed herself before stepping forward. โYouโll be lucky if anyone comes. Iโve made it from Central Park, youโre the first sign of life along the way. Iโm Serai.โ

Tiger hadnโt moved from the same spot for hours now. His body curled up in protection, his face tucked fearfully behind his tail, refusing to leave the shelter heโd found amongst the rubble of a collapsed building. It was dry, far away from the water below, so to him, it was considered the best spot. Maybe heโd stay here forever. His mind slipped in an out of a dazed sleep as he rested, but his ears instinctively twitched and perked, causing him to eventually grow the confidence to lift his head. Tiger blinked hard as his eyes met the mass of destruction around him, but he shook his head and looked away, focusing instead on the factor of importance that had initially caught his attention. The howl โThereโs someone out there?โ He questioned himself in surprise, and felt a small smile tug at his maw. For hours Tiger had been searching for life other than his own. Perhaps there was hope after all.
He kept cautiously down to a ledge below, wincing as his bruised body was once again pushed into motion. Lucky for Tiger, he had sustained little in terms of injuries. He had a few scraps and bruises, but nothing that wouldnโt heal in a short time. His mind processed the howl, and Tiger was given the impression that this dog must be pretty big. The call was deep and low, and mustโve been loud to reach him. It would take him time to get there, but this gave him new hope. His greatest fear would be to die alone.
