    𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐔𝐒𝐒 ━━ ten y/o stallion
    i. draft mix ii. mares: sudu iii. no foals iv. tags sudu, pandora v. no mentions
Warmth flooded his chest as Pandora expressed her joy over his return, though the joy brought with sadness. They'd had a colt, young and strong but the young thing was nowhere in sight. It seems not even a foal had managed to make it through the year's round ups. He knew as much though, he'd been through them for many years and unfortunately it was the sad truth, "I'm glad to see you made it out as well." Before Sudu was allowed a response to Abacuss' introductions Pandora spoke up and the stallion was instantly on edge. Pandora wasn't old but her years were full of wisdom and an undeniable cunning, she'd play an entire herd setting to her favor and Abacuss couldn't deny that his affections for her ran deep. He'd always caved to her the easiest. He'd hoped that Sudu would let the situation diffused, refusing to respond to Pandora's taunting but it appeared he'd have no such luck. She only responded, her words a sharp stab at the separation between himself and Pandora.

The tension could have been cut with a knife. Both mares were egging each other on and sending jabs at himself as well. Uneasiness swelled in his chest as he realized he could likely end up with no mares if the encounter did not play right. Ideally he wanted to walk away with both mares at his side but if push came to shove and he could only walk away with one he knew he'd ensure Pandora remained beside him. Sudu was a catch, a wonderful mare and he wanted her with him as well but history was on Pandora's side. Of course, and though it would be difficult, he could walk away with both mares (perhaps a bit standoffish towards each other). Stamping his foot Abacuss snorted gently, "Now that's quite enough, these taunts are the games of fillies and the two of you know it. Who came across who first does not matter so long as we end up where we are supposed to." He spared a glance between them before his eyes first settled on Pandora with a gentler tone, "Pandora, you have always know you have my deepest affections and that I'd move heaven and hell for you, but you must learn to share with new mares as you knew how to do in our old herd." His gaze now switched to Sudu, "And Sudu, I'd like to think that I'll have the same affections for you in a short amount of time but it will not come about if a decision is forced and someone walks away still alone." Taking a deep breath he scanned the horizon for a moment, looking for any signs of danger he may have missed in his short speech before continuing, "Now, can we agree to put this tomfoolery aside? You're two strong mares who know your places in life and it can either benefit us together, as a herd, or it can leave one of us at the mercy of whatever danger is out there." The stallion felt out of breath, he was a quiet figure who spoke in short sentences not drawn out speeches. Even when he disciplined within his herd he rarely gave a reason, he just simply told you to stop. Taking slow breaths the stallion braced himself to be met with backlash over his words.

Kalondra's grooming didn't last long, there was a growing irritation within her that she deemed necessary to take care of. Not typically affectionate her heat could bring about an intense possessiveness over her stallion and that simply would not do in these times. Her previous herd had known to just step back and allow her space but if Solomon intended to grow a herd she'd need to be at the very least civil to new mares. Stepping around him her tail swung behind her, further spreading the smell of her heat as it brushed against her newfound stallion's chest, her open invitation to deal with the smell lingering in the air.

    i. spanish mustang ii. no stallion iii. no foals iv. heat three v. tags mercury, diamond vi. mentions
Freyja listened to the explanation of how the other two mares ended up together and was not at all surprised to hear such a common story. Year after year she came across other horses who'd been separated in the round up, of course the two years prior she'd luckily evaded capture with the same stallion. As Mercury came forward to exchange scents Freyja met her halfway and extended her nose out to the other mare, even passing her head to the side to give the invitation to Diamond to do the same if she wished. As the invitation to join the other two was extended happiness at being untied with others once again filled Freyja, however it also presented the opportunity for the mare to be in over her head once again as Mercury suggested she had more experience. Freyja had never spent time without another mare leading her, guiding her and ensuring that she didn't do something that should not be done. However experienced she seemed was mostly a facade, misplaced confidence in her own abilities though capable she was. Of course Freyja mentioned none of this, merely smiled with delight, "Of course, I'd love to join the two of you."

it did not take long before he felt the mare no longer grooming him. solomon watched as she moved around him and then giving her invitation for him to finally rid her of her heat. the frame chestnut's nostrils flared for a moment - fade - . while spring was basically over and he had only kalondra, he knew he should still be in search of mares, there had to be more around, of course, otherwise, it would seem that he was unable to care for more than one. snorting at just the thought, he gently nudged her shoulder before he indicated that they would be moving. they had lingered here too long for his taste and without more mares, he would feel slightly restless but would be perfectly okay with snaking if he had the opportunity. he picked up a trot and let his gaze scan the area for any figures while his senses tried to trace down any smells that would indicate another horse. it didn't take him long before he spotted two figures in the distance and looking back at kalondra, the stallion picked up the pace until he could easily pick out what seemed to be two mares, one slightly smaller, most likely still growing and possibly the offspring of the older mare. he paused, though he was not wary. letting out a short nicker, he made his advance towards them.

she was glad when the older mare said that she would join her. of course the more company the better, especially with it now being summer. she flicked her tail, spreading her ever-growing scent that would be disappearing within the next week or so. she figured they would probably need to start moving though she didn't know the direction she would be going. the mare looked to freyja, mainly for guidance. "yes, hopefully so." the mare said in response to her words before she turned back to preacher, wondering what was going on in the stallion's mind, after all he had been a little quiet, most likely watching the interaction between his growing herd. the bay moved towards him, gently beginning to groom his withers for a moment, her tail swatting at her rump to hopefully aid in keeping the flies away for now.

━━ i. stallion ii. 13 yrs old iii. shire cross mares. Alice, Harper foals. Macy (adoptive) mood. relaxed, protective
━━ perma tag. Alice & Macy mentions. -- tags. harper, alice, macy

    ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
She smelled sweet like summer. The stallion welcomed the warmth of Harper's muzzle against his own. He committed the scent to memory, should she ever be separated from him he would find her. Slowly but surely he could almost see the mare relax, her cautious and hardened exterior chipping away to reveal one of trust. He fell into a quiet spell of observation, he was usually more proactive in talking but perhaps it was the small presence of the filly that stood by his legs as a form of security while she peered at Harper that kept him quiet. Often times he found that actions could give more information than speaking could and he was keen to watch. Still even in the stillness of the moment he was never fully off duty and the stallion's gaze flicked up ever so often to peer around them, he paused at every dense patch of vegetation for signs of movement and his nostrils flared when the wind picked up brought new scents towards him.

Harper's gentle suggestion caught his attention and he brought himself back to the present. The lowering of her head sealed the deal for Preacher, it was a subtle sign of submission towards Alice. Still he knew the two mares had yet to truly greet one another so he paused, turning to look at Alice curiously as she spoke. "It would be lovely to have you with us Harper." His voice was smooth but his features furrowed as Harper took a step back, a stirring of emotions appearing on the mare's face he extended his muzzle, letting his velveteen lips wobble against the bridge of her muzzle softly. A quiet yet warm whicker emitted from the stud, he wasn't going to ask what caused the sudden switch in emotions, not now anyways. Instead he aired on the path of trying to comfort her. He only retracted when Alice made her move to truly familiarize herself with Harper and settled on ripping up some of the grasses, lazily grazing he pulled his head up ever so often to look over the two mares and their immediate surroundings. His attention only truly focused once more as little Macy left his legs, he watched quietly the sight of the two mares and the petite filly bringing old memories forth.

It was quite similar to how his first herd had been started, at first it was just him and an older mare who took a chance on a foolhardy stallion. For quite some time actually it was just he and her, then eventually their foal. When by a stroke of luck them stumbled upon another lone mare that he had managed to charm into his small band. The two mares had turned to four and he managed to keep that herd safe and together for many seasons. Hopefully this was another beginning to a strong, healthy, herd. Even as he was happily drunk in his memories his mind was in the present and he smiled faintly at Harper's comment of Macy. Indeed Macy would be fearless, but she was also intelligent even at such a young age. The little filly knew that she could seek security in by him when other horses were present- the foal trusted him already. He watched the two interact quietly a soft snort of amusement coming from him as Macy quite literally kicked up her heels at Harper's lip wobbling playfully. Foals always brought a certain liveliness and youthfulness to the herd that was always needed.

He was happy to remain quiet and observant, the spot they were in was quite secure. The had the advantage of being on higher land, he could see virtually everything around them. Plus he was in no real rush to potentially risk one of his mares being snaked away, even if both Alice and Harper had agreed to be in his band they were still at risk. The scent of their heat was evident which would make them a target for any stallion passing by. There was an age old primal drive in him to cover both of them, to rid them of the sweet scent of their heat, but he wasn't impulsive like he once was. He hoped that for now his size would be enough to ward off competition. He was pulled out of the mindless thoughts by a gentle grooming of his withers. It took him a few seconds to collect himself and he gave a soft whuff of affection towards Alice. Preacher turned, lining himself alongside the mare and grooming her withers. "Do you have any thoughts?" He asked the simple question quietly before he resumed the tender grooming along her topline. The warmth of Alice's pelt against his was comforting, it would be comforting for any horse after the roundup, but the contact helped to further mingle their scents and even create a bond.

━━ i. mare ii. 9 yrs old iii. Quarter Horse x Cream Draft heat. stage 4 foals. 3, none played stallion. closed mood. calm
━━ mentions. -- tags. Abacuss, Sudu

    ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Behind her words was an innate and deep seated affection for Abacuss. Just as much as she could bend the stallion to her will he could bend her to his. Pandora's loyalty to the stallion ran deep, even if her words of meeting other stallions made it seem less so she trusted in Abacuss to trust her. She wouldn't leave him even when he would eventually grow weary and clumsy, she wondered if the same could be thought of Sudu. She didn't think so. A mix of emotions had already began to form towards the palomino mare, a distaste if you will. It wasn't hate though it could easily become so it was much less than that. Pandora wasn't in the mood to be challenged by the likes of Sudu, if anything physical broke out it would be a nearly even match. Pandora with her brute strength and sheer size and Sudu with speed and stamina on her side. It wouldn't be pretty, but challenges never were.

Sudu's actions and tart scent didn't go unnoticed by Pandora and the mare snorted, flicking her tail impatiently as she glared at the mare. Her ears flicked back slightly- the palomino was walking a delicate line. "I don't need to be first if I'm loyal, which clearly you ar-" Pandora's bitter retort was cut off at the stomp of a hoof and she flinched away, tossing her head for a matter of seconds before she settled. She was never one to get in trouble within a herd, it felt foreign. His string of words stung, in truth Pandora was a particularly sensitive being with a soft heart. The words he uttered were true which managed to hurt even more but she feigned a look of indifference. She knew Abacuss would be able to see though her poker face given how well the stud knew her but she didn't trust Sudu enough to show her truest colors yet. Yet still a bitter part of her wanted to say that Sudu started it first- which she truly did with her unwarranted shows of aggression and dominance, but she knew better than to partake in the silly game of who did what first. Needless to say she was taken aback when Abacuss turned to her first, she expected stern words but instead relished in his gentle tone. Her ears flicked away from the side of her head now, her heart swelled at his words and she reached forward gingerly to touch her muzzle to his. Only pulling away when he faced Sudu to speak with her.

Pandora didn't bother to listen in on what he said to the other mare, instead she whisked her tail to either side of her frame. The hair slapped against her stifle as her skin rippled in an effort to shoo the flies and varying insects away. Her deep blue gaze swept over the horizon, initially she was on the lookout for other stallions or even predators. The aftermath of the roundups were always filled with restless days of watching your back for scavengers who picked off the weakened horses, they were vicious and emboldened. Though a small part of her still clung to a small string of hope, no thicket than a piece of hair, hope that her yearling colt would simply begin trotting over the ridge towards them. Deep down she knew that wouldn't happen but she couldn't turn off her feelings. Abacuss' voice caught her attention once more and she turned, he was addressing both of them. Her gaze flitted over the obsidian and white stallion and she felt her heart ache just the slightest.

She wasn't going to argue with him or be bitter- instead she pivoted towards him and lipped gently at his withers, "I'm sorry, you know I'll always be by your side." The words were soft, merely a gentle whisper as she ginger step away from him. She was apologetic for the words she said about meeting other stallions, and a small part of her felt sourly over the words between she and Sudu but the last thing she was going to do was apologize to her. Regardless of that she looked over her shoulder at the mare for a few moments, willing that a silent agreement could be met. Pandora wasn't backing down, but she wasn't going to continue to behave like a brat either.

With the confrontation somewhat diffused the perlino's mind escaped to other things. One being the insatiable itch that was her heat, part of her wanted to be rid of it quickly but if she advanced on Abacuss it could come off as some sort of manipulation, or plot which was something she didn't want. However she wasn't above tipping off about it, she flagged her tail for a small moment, lowering her head to pluck at some of the grasses. The action lasted just long enough to serve its purpose before she stopped lifting her head to look around them a soft sense of unease pitted her stomach. She didn't like to linger long in one area and the sun beating down on her delicate pink skin had already become bothersome. There was a nice little stream, heavily shaded by trees not far from here. Pandora preferred to avoid the large lake, it was where some of the more aggressive stallions liked to linger. Plus a small drink from the stream didn't sound too terrible, with that in mind she faced the two, flicking her ears, "I don't know about you two but it's unbearably hot and I'm parched. The stream isn't far from us and the place I know has shade." Her tone was gentle but firm and she turned away from them. Not quite waiting for a proper reply or not she began to made her way through the grasses. Some of the grass was already golden and stretched up to the curve of her belly, it was a slight annoyance and she snorted, her ears flicking just the slightest. She only paused her trek towards the water and shade to peer patiently at Abacuss and Sudu.

[ mare ] [ nine ] [ stallion: abacuss ] [ heat: 3 ] [ tags: abacuss, pandora ]

The fact of the matter was, unfortunately, that proving her point would get her nowhere. If she continued to so openly covet the stallion, he would likely lose patience, given his attachment to the perlino; this was simply a fact Sudu had to grudgingly admit. There was nothing to be done about the history between them: what was done was done. Her recent flirtations with the stud were shallow in comparison, she well knew, despite how powerful simple temptations could sometimes be. But it was clear that Abacuss was too intelligent to be foolishly swayed, and with her head lifted and her ears flat, she allowed the stud to speak uninterrupted. There was plenty she would have liked to say, without a doubt, if her words could go unpunished, but that was not going to be the case. Tail lashing briefly – at the bumbling insects, she might say – she cast a cool glance at Pandora as she spoke. Reaffirming her fidelity, naturally, and Sudu dropped her head to hide a snort against the grass. She was not particularly inclined to apologize to the mare, though she knew Abacuss would appreciate it. There would be time for that, supposing any future disagreements arose, but for now she was content to simply acknowledge the stallion’s chiding with a flick of her ear in his direction. By observing the pace of his breathing and the way he braced himself, Sudu gathered that he was not accustomed to taking control of situations in such a way. At least not when it concerned mares in a herd dynamic, and she watched curiously – first the poor stallion, and then his mare.

The arching of Pandora’s tail was a flagrant message for all to behold, and for all the jealousy it might have spurned in Sudu, the palomino kept her interest ranging over the grass, cropping slowly as she stepped away. Then the perlino was speaking again, and Sudu lifted her head, diligently maintaining her silence, for the time being. Who would argue a dip and a drink on such a warm day? She wouldn’t, and she took a moment to shake out her mane, the gold and white hair tossing against her neck as the shake rolled its way down her spine and barrel, a cloud of dust escaping her coat. Feeling a bit more composed, she leveled her gaze from the mare to the stallion, and then back again, beginning to make her way after the mare. No sense in challenging her leadership on this small journey, though she did pick up an easy trot, keeping a sizeable distance between herself and the pair. Clearly the perlino was after a particular sort of attention from the stud, and given his uncomfortable reaction to the earlier tension, she knew she would not win herself any favors by interjecting herself now. Of course, the possibility of even more mares at the stream was ever present, though she dismissed the thought and focused instead of her quick, clipping pace, nostrils flared wide and pink to drink in a refreshing pulse of clear air.

It was a wonderful and intoxicating day, to be sure – the young stallion bobbed his head as the new mare spoke, his eyes traveling over her pretty form again, from her long legs to the tips of her ears. Then she was accepting his offer, and while he had been hoping for just that answer, he was still happily surprised. Perhaps he felt he’d run through his luck already – he glanced back at Rosita, his body feeling electrified with energy again. He felt as if he could go coursing across the endless plains and through the trees, and whatever lay beyond, and still not feel fatigued. It was a welcome feeling, of course, especially after the dismal days following a roundup, and he nickered eagerly at Serenity’s words.

β€œI think we’ll all be quite happy together,” he observed, his lips still moving gently against her back. Following the curve of it down towards her tail, he remained alert, though she hadn’t yet made a move to deter him. The scent of her heat was overpowering many other thoughts at the moment, and he knew that if another stallion happened by, nothing good would follow. Ingot was a fiercely protective stud, and despite the fact that he had only recently met both mares, he was not going to risk an intruder breaking them apart. Stepping again towards her rump, brushing his nose affectionately along her flank, he paused for a moment just to listen, alert for any sort of snaps in the grass, and then made sure Rosita hadn’t taken leave of them. Then his grey nose was resting questioningly on the dock of Serenity’s tail, more than willing to take care of her heat but also aware that a shift in mood could send a hoof flying his way.

β™” H A R P E R

[ mare ] [ four ] [ stallion: preacher ] [ heat: 2 ] [ tags: macy ]

Was there anything more joyful than a foal’s invitation to play? Hardly, in the young mare’s experience; with a playful squeal of her own, she reared up gently and swiveled on her hind feet, taking off after the filly at a slow trot, tossing her head as she went. Her heart was moving faster than her logical brain, it was true, and another smitten whicker tumbled free of her pink nostrils as she traced a path after the filly. She was a lovely little thing, really – all shining whites and coppers, with the way the sun peeked through the fine hair of her coat, and Harper couldn’t help the bright smile that was suddenly finding its way across her muzzle. Not without that bittersweet twinge in her heart, but she was beginning to realize that just might be a chronic wistfulness. It would be best to accept it, instead of inwardly fighting it. She was lucky enough as it was to be engaged in a game of tag with a lively young foal, and she reached her nose out as she approached, leaving plenty of room for Macy to gain the lead but acting as if she might catch her nonetheless, her top lip wiggling with delight.

She kept one ear occasionally tipping back toward the stallion, not able to entirely cast off her wariness. She felt quite safe, for the most part, but a stallion was a stallion, and at the same time, a mare was a mare – she was taking painstaking steps to be sure she did not intrude on the relationship that was already budding between Preacher and Alice. She would have time to further study the stallion, if his interest meandered her way, but it was not a pressing matter. And as long as Alice tolerated her, she was content with that relationship, too. She had been accepted into their company, and for that, her soul was quiet and thankful. It did no harm to wish for more, and she would work to make it so, but not in a domineering, pushy way. It wasn’t in her nature, and truth be told, she felt more at ease interacting with the filly, throwing a gentle buck as she chased the ambling little form across the grass, her strawberry-grey tail held with a bit more energy than it had been before, the mingled colors of her coat again catching the light as she scampered after Macy.

Despite the fact that both mares had fallen silent, their heads no longer raised in dominance and their teeth ceasing any clacking, the moment was still tense. Clearly neither wanted to back down from the conflict and had done it due to Abacuss' interference. Nonetheless he still was uneasy, things had settled but it did not make them any less volatile. An apology would have been ideal and the situation he truly wanted, for both Pandora and Sudu to exchange an actual pleasant look and apologize for their brash words and harshness. However, Abacuss was smart enough to know that such a thing wouldn't happen, at least not in this moment. For now he'd have to settle for the bratty attitudes and the brief eye exchange between the two as comfort. Perhaps things would work out, certainly Sudu would slide into the position of lead mare and she'd realize that Pandora was no threat so long as she was respectful. Things would be okay, at the very least he'd continue to assure himself of it.

As Pandora gently lipped him he relaxed under her touch as her words further comforted him. He'd never once doubted the mare's loyalty and felt a ping of guilt for causing her to think he ever would. Even at his weakest, when gashes filled his side and he could scarcely walk more than a few miles without needing to stop, she had stood by him. She'd licked his wounds and assured others that though at the moment he was low he'd rise again. Pandora had always been the most loyal, even her taunts of finding a different stallion had fallen on deaf ears, "You don't have to apologize." A short lived silence followed, albeit a bit of an awkward one as the herd hung suspended in air. Abacuss considered taking the lead, guiding them into less open spaces and denying either one the chance to assert dominance just yet. Of course he was beaten to it as Pandora suggested they head for the nearby stream and even he couldn't deny that temptation. Without waiting Pandora headed in that direction while Abacuss stayed behind. Turning to Sudu he awaited to see her reaction, whether she'd linger behind and deny a herd with Pandora in it or if she'd come along. He was happy when she chose the latter, following after Pandora as he took up position behind the two mares.

In the comfort of the forests and in the stream Abacuss relaxed fully, at best there was the faint smell of other mares who'd likely taken refuge near the stream days ago. They were hidden from sight and most bachelor stallions hung near the lake. This stream and its location had been a prime reason Abacuss had once claimed the nearby fields as a territory. Unfortunately it now meant that once again the overpowering smell fogged his mind yet again as he dipped his head to pull in several long sips of water in an attempt to distract himself. Typically he favored getting rid of such nuisances as quickly as they began, these lands were dangerous enough to a herd without adding more problems, but given the previously tense situation he was reluctant to make any moves, or even speak for that matter. So he settled for keeping watch, observing every tree, twig, and leaf that moved suspiciously.

As Mercury questioned where they should go Freyja glanced around them, truthfully she wasn't sure. Deeper into the forests would lead them away from other horses and further into danger, but it also kept them safe from aggressive stallions while the plains did the opposite. With the heat of the day Freyja settled on the lake as an appropriate place, "The lake perhaps, we can cool off and drink." Pausing only a moment to wait for Mercury's agreement the spanish mustang turned on her heels and began trotting off in the direction of the lake.
