While he was well aware the mare would be hesitant about him, and she had every right considering many stallions would kill foals that weren't their own. However, he was currently relying on the mare being more trusting of Piper in this moment. If she didn't he was prepared to receive a powerful kick to the chest before the mare ran off and if Whiskey was smart and didn't have a death wish he'd let her. Fortunately there was a flick of Sparrow's ear, just this smallest sign of a slightly less wary mother, and that little movement had Whiskey feeling much more confident about how this interaction might turn out. He felt safe in assuming that Sparrow would likely end up being more dominant then Piper though he doubted it'd end up being aggressive. Perhaps he'd gotten lucky and found two mares who could actually get along. He'd had issues with mares disliking each other before, once his lead mare had been challenged and he'd been foolish enough to allow the new mare to remain. It led to constant fights and it was only after a foal had accidentally been struck that he'd finally put his hoof down and kicked the challenging mare out. Now he was older, far more experienced, and he wasn't scared of kicking mares out of his herd if he felt they'd cause problems. So yes, Whiskey decided he was lucky to be avoiding that right now.

After seeing Sparrow's body shift, now fully blocking her foal from him, Whiskey halted once again. The single step forward his only one. He could see that she was willing to allow him closer. She was warming up, becoming more comfortable with his presence around herself and her foal. With her body now angled and the mare's face fully visible and no longer hidden in the shadows her blue lip was plainly visible and Whiskey had to stifle a laugh at the sight. He doubted that Sparrow even knew it was there, not even a blip on the radar. His ears perked forward as Sparrow spoke, introducing both herself and her foal to them. He found it to be quite the interesting choice, recalling a peregrine as being a falcon, he'd seen one before as a young colt and had been impressed with the speed and ferocity of the bird. So far it was a fitting name for the filly.

What followed next was surprising to the stallion and certainly threw a curve ball in Whiskey's game plan. Moments later and he realized this was all part of Sparrow's game plan, a test to determine whether she'd actual allow him a chance or turn her rump to him and walk off. While Peregrine came forward Sparrow tensed, her body poised and ready to charge forward should he step wrong. He dipped his head low, intending to let the filly warm up to him first. Peregrine had other plans. Immediately he was being inspected, staring up at him with curious eyes and boldness. With her at his side he relaxed his ears, attempting to prove to Sparrow that there was no need to worry as he dropped his head and gently groomed Peregrine's side before she disappeared under him. He chuckled softly, amused at her curiosity over his belly. As most foals were she must have been curious over his height, delightful to see that she could fit under him without ever touching. Excitement continued to fill the youngling until she finally turned to retreat back to Sparrow, only getting so far before her still weak legs failed her and she stumbled. Of course this embarrassed her and she hurried underneath her mother to hide. With the moment now over Whiskey returned his attention back to Sparrow, "She's quite brave, Peregrine is an appropriate name for her though I assume she must be young? She doesn't know danger yet, she only knows potential friends."

Royalty rolled her eyes at the stallion's comment, chuckling gently as he referred to her as being a young mare. His first comment was only followed by another charming little bit. Perhaps she was more perceptive to the stallion's charm than she previously believed. Desiring to keep her bit of control she decided that she was so open and giddy about his flirting because he was quite the impressive specimen. She was sure his offspring would be strong and worthy of dotting on. Despite her aging years Royalty had always been a very fertile mare and in her life had only ever lost one foal. Her body, even being a bit thinner than normal, was still well rounded and strong. She was no small mare and carrying foals had always been an easy task for her - with luck the mare still had two good years left before her chances of losing foals began to lower drastically and she'd be damned if what could be her last two weren't note worthy. "Well you certainly know how to make a mare feel special so I suppose it must be true," she cooed back to him softly.

As he brushed against her side to walk beside her her head turned slightly, watching him as he came closer until their sides brushed gently together with each step. This close her long tail brushed gently against his legs each time it swayed towards him, each gentle wave of the long hairs serving to spread the scent of her heat. Amusement filled her features as he introduced himself and she quietly repeated the name to herself, allowing it to roll off of her tongue as though she were tasting it. Much like the richest fruits she found she liked it, repeating it once again as she spoke, "Solomon. Hm, it seems as though we meant to find each other, my king." It was a small tease as she bumped her rump against his own. Whether he liked it or not the mare had already decided she'd be sticking around. She quite liked this one and even when she could no longer produce progeny she had a feeling he'd remain good company to her. Feeling his teeth gently nibbling her neck she laughed softly, once again bumping her rump against his.

It was at that moment that the mare's call had interrupted her moment and Royalty's natural dominance had assumed its position. At the mare's initial show of her size Royalty had remained firm in her own. She would not start the fight but she'd let it be known there would be one if the young mare chose to go that route. However, the mare shied away and relaxed herself a bit and in response a low, welcoming nicker emitted from Royalty. It was natural for the darkly colored mare to assert her place but these acts rarely meant aggression from her, had it been aggressive the mare's snort and drag of a hoof would have had Royalty charging forward and sending her away. This young mare wasn't going to challenge, she'd need a firm hand to put her in her place but Royalty had a feeling that that would be the end of it. Of course this didn't mean that Solomon knew such a thing and slight irritation bubbled up in Royalty's chest as she was told to stand back. She was used to stallions allowing her the lead at all times, nonetheless she remained where she was and quietly watched the interaction between the two. With her heat only growing stronger she'd decided it best to sit back and keep her mouth shut lest she say something out of aggravation to the other mare.

Imp's surprise was expected, Winnie wasn't very far at all into her heat and the chances of falling pregnant were slim but she had decided that while things weren't hectic with the claiming game was as good a time as any. Besides, her heat often agitated her and made her antsy, the sooner it was taken care of the better. More time for focusing on other things. (fade) Feeling his weight come off of her Winnie breathed a short sigh of relief. She had expected him to keep his distance initially, any smart stallion would and at the very least he was smart enough to veer around her in order to avoid her back hooves. She watched from the corners of her eyes as he came up beside her before beginning to groom her. Another sigh, this one content, left the mare as she groomed him back, lipping briefly at his forelock before nuzzling his neck. It lasted only a moment when the smell of another mare distracted her.

She nudged Imp gently before motioning towards the smell, "Come, it can't just be the two of us forever." Turning her body she began traveling towards the scent. It took some time before the smell was strong enough to ensure that it wasn't a dead scent, left lingering by a horse long gone. As she came upon the gentle rise of a low hill the mare came into view a short distance away. Despite the distance Winnie could see the mare was likely around her own age, yet taller although she seemed to carry a similar build and while Winnie's own coat was a vibrant palomino this mare had a more calm buckskin coat, her dark mane and tail contrasting the lightness of her. Remaining where she stood she turned her head now to Imp, awaiting to see what the stallion might decide.

Luna hadn't meant to startle the other mare and after rushing forward she was quick to hang back a bit. She wasn't the tallest mare but her stocky build meant she looked more threatening than she was and was often bigger then some other mares. Lowering her head slightly she attempted to present herself in a more friendly manner and without so much excitement
While a stallion would always be the safest choice Luna wasn't opposed to the company of another mare either, she'd be able to make a friend first. "It's nice to meet you too, do you not have a herd?" Despite still feeling sore about losing her own Luna was determined to remain optimistic and make the most of the situation. It would do her no good to mope around and be upset.

Sparrow waited on pins and needles, her risk was one that was brash and to some would be moronic. Sending your filly in to test a stallion whom you only just met, not only the stallion but his mare too. Some mares were very territorial of their stallions and aggressive towards foals that weren't their own. However Sparrow knew that she could get to Peregrine in a few seconds if she had to and that was ultimately the deciding factor in her action. If she hadn't still been fit from the harsh winter she wouldn't have even tested it but she had done well for herself this season. Now though she stood and watched, her gaze landed on Piper first. Sparrow wasn't one who readily went after mares but for her foal she'd take on a bear and more. Though the flash of adoration in the young mare's eyes was a clear sign she wasn't going to harm her foal and that settled Sparrow further. While she wouldn't hesitate to chase the young mare away from the stallion before her it wasn't something she wanted to do and she was glad that it seemed she wouldn't have to. Infact she quite liked the mare, she could teach her a great deal which was an opportunity that was new to her. Teaching a mare was new territory than teaching a foal and it excited her.

Now though her gaze locked onto Whiskey and she watched every movement, even the slightest quiver of his nostrils. Though the stallion quickly caught on to her game, to her test. He wasn't stupid- she would give him that. The relaxed position of his ears and even him grooming Peregrine's sides gently surprised her and within a matter of seconds her posture loosened, her muscles relaxing and ears relaxing from their previously perked position. Whiskey was damn smooth. As much as strength was important so was intelligence and his ability to be gentle. He had proven all of those things to her. Her gaze now flicked up and away from her reassuring licks to Peregrine and settled on Whiskey and Piper, she let out a whuff, pleased to hear that she wasn't the only one who found the name to be fitting for her filly. "Young indeed, barely two days." She replied, glancing down as Peregrine seemed to get over her embarrassment and trotted past the stallion and up to Piper, her tail waggling excitedly as she peered at the other painted mare. Sparrow couldn't help the amused snort that became her as Peregrine walked alongside Piper, rubbing herself into the mare's sides and giving talkative nickers. "She knows no such thing as fear. You two are the only other horses she's met, I'm beginning to find that she's quite curious of you both." Her voice was smooth and relaxed, a hoof cocking under her frame.

For a moment Sparrow ceased her talking, flicking her tail to swat at a small insect. She paced up to him, her strides were confident and showy, even if she didn't need to she enjoyed showing what she had to offer to his herd. She stopped beside him though, her gaze flicking past him to check on Peregrine ever so often. She reached her muzzle out to him, her velveteen lips just barely touching his side. Her nostrils quivered just the slightest as she familiarized herself with his scent before she decided upon grooming his side gently. She came across a small tuft of his winter coat that remained, just near his withers and Sparrow made her way to it, using her teeth to gently work the coarse and dense hair away from his pelt to reveal the sleek spring and summer coat that was hidden under it. She paused her grooming of him though, "I must ask, where did the both of you come from? Where is the rest of your herd." She queried, her ears flicking contently, "I can't imagine a stallion in his prime would only have one mare." Her comment came gently- it wasn't a prod towards him but rather an observation. While it might seem like Sparrow came easily to him she wasn't going to put up much of a fight or chase when she didn't need to, she didn't want to chase away a stallion of his stature and she had a feeling she could get along swell with Piper.

Lazy snorts and mindless nickers could be heard coming from the amber champagne mare as she grazed, tail lashing to and fro to keep the hoard of flies that pestered her endlessly at bay. Having only just recently been chased away from her other herd for good Duchess was deathly calm. Yet inside that pretty little mind of hers she was boiling with bottled up rage and a need to assert her dominance over anything, everything. All the while though the scent of her heat was clouding around her as she stayed stagnant, just a few days prior she saw a large stallion roaming this section of land and she returned hoping to find him- but thus far her search rendered her empty handed. Now though she settled to ripping up grass, with far more aggression than was needed, but it helped to soothe her and that truly was what the mare needed in that moment. An outlet. She was kicked from her herd wrongly, the lead mare deciding that Duchess was being too much of a bully to the mares younger than herself and chased her away early that morning. That was two days ago and that mare knew exactly what she was doing. Chasing out a mare who was so far into their heat and hadn't been covered was a cruel cruel thing to do. Her stallion refused to cover mares who were chased away in fear of upsetting his lead- so Duchess was left to her own devices, being driven mad with the annoyance of a heat and no stallion to cover her.

Instead though the mare didn't return back to that herd, grovelling for their acceptance. She threw it in their faces for several hours, prancing along the outskirts and several times she had lured their stallion away- only for him to wimp out and return to his herd. He was an old stallion anyways, barely able to keep his mares from being snaked. She gave a petulant snort, stomping a hoof into the ground and scoring it in the process. She was better off without them anyways. Duchess gave a frustrated whinny, rearing up and giving several crow hops once on all fours again. She tossed her head, pawing once more at the grass and soil before gathering herself once more and grazing, whisking her tail about her frame.

(note; i put her in their general area she's just having a fit rn lol)

[ stallion ] [ 13 ] [ bachelor ] [tags: chai & lacey]

It was such a beautiful name! Hawk felt his mind sweep clean with the satisfaction of finally knowing this simple fact; and even as he enjoyed it, he knew it was silly. Every time, and every mare, felt like a completely new experience. The riddling, the pleasant exchanges, and even the rejections, as he had known his fair share. But this mare hadnโ€™t retreated from him, and he lifted his head proudly once he had her name, and once he was invited to share his own. โ€œIโ€™m Hawk, and youโ€™ve made me a happy horse, Chai,โ€ he replied, another nicker escaping him as he realized that she was indeed going to exchange breath with him. Whuffing the scent happily, he was perfectly content to stand and bask before he felt her lips on his neck. Renewed excitement thrummed through his veins, and he took a careful step forward, making a very focused effort to remain relaxed, and stole a nibble at the base of her mane before she returned to the grass.

And for as satisfied as he felt with the situation, Hawk was no fool and was not going to miss a two-for-one opportunity. Lifting his head and flicking his ears towards the mare who had not yet made a move to intervene, he took a moment to weigh his options. Approach her and hope to seal his success with two, or remain where he was and hope he could hold onto one? The answer was obvious, of course. Taking a slow couple of steps towards her, he kept his ears forward and friendly, eyes watchful for a flicking tail or pinned ears. And, stallion that he was, he found it within himself to wax a bit more poetry. โ€œHow much happier I would be, though, to know the names of both beautiful mares before me.โ€

[ mare ] [ 7 ] [ no stallion ] [heat : 3] [tags: joker & asanti]

And so she hadnโ€™t been wrong โ€“ there were two horses approaching her. A mare, who seemed to be holding back, and a stallion, and he was the one who captured her interest completely as he trotted closer. A stunning trot, with his legs held so high, and Kip found herself letting forth another cheerful whinny. Watching the light catch on his silver mane, and the way his muscles moved beneath that shining coat, she offered a fascinated nicker, for a moment not even realizing how close he really was. And then his nose was reaching for her tail, and her nicker broke into a high-pitched squeal. Hiking up her back leg, she dropped her head and pinned her ears, but then, as always seemed to be the case when her heat was strong, she ducked her rump in to brush against his chest.

Ears forward again, and eyes bright with a wild mix of excitement, anticipation and fear, she skittered a few steps away and turned to look at him. No matter the number of times she had experienced it now, her heat always seemed to be a whirlpool of conflicting emotions. The presence of a stallion lifted her spirits, while the awareness of another mare nearby was bound to escalate her own mare-ish tendencies. Blended in with this was the old, familiar fear that she would somehow, after all, still end up alone; all of this was now contrasted against her sudden hope that the horses before her would allow her to stay. She could feel her heart flittering away in her chest again, and she kept her tail lifted as she studied the stallion.

โ€œI forgive yours if you forgive mine,โ€ she suggested sheepishly, although it was heartening to see that she wasnโ€™t the only nervous one. Taking a tentative step forward, she glanced towards the nearby mare before letting her focus rest fully on the handsome stallion. โ€œIโ€™m quite happy to see you, I was alone for so long,โ€ she began to explain, the fear still fresh in her voice.

The mareโ€™s voice was as gentle as the stream that lulled through the grove, and Geode was plenty content to just listen to what she had to say. Letting her words wash over him, he left his eyes closed, feeling quite secure in their shared surroundings. Shifting his weight and cocking a hind foot, he blew gently at the insects that tickled around his whiskers. A cougar attack โ€“ life could certainly be cruel. It was all such a lucky dance, the way events unfolded, and how it was decided who would live to see another day. Relieved to know that she, at least, had escaped such a gruesome fate, he bowed his head respectfully, silently apologizing for the struggles sheโ€™d endured. Life was full of many sudden, violent twists, but it was meant to be balanced: here he stood, the juice of the melon still sweet on his tongue, with a new, kind-hearted friend. She seemed entirely capable of protecting her own welfare, and smart, too, to have rested in the hidden grove while rambunctious young ones pranced and fought nearby.

โ€œI could almost believe summer never left us,โ€ he concluded with a soft whuff of his own, the lids of his eyes lifting long enough to appreciate the hazy white glow of her shape. A part of him remained stunned that she had not already left. It seemed that if this were reality, she would have taken stock of what he lacked and quickly departed. Her scent and the weight of her presence remained before him, and he felt his lip becoming soft and loose, hanging freely as he enjoyed what was becoming quite a beautiful day.

Perhaps that was why he hadnโ€™t heard the strange neigh? He forced himself to believe that, otherwise it was only another embarrassment โ€“ he had missed the approach of a new horse. The mareโ€™s movement brought his attention back up, and he too lifted his head and perked his hears. A few deep inhales alerted that another mare was nearby. At his age, he now made it a habit to pause and reflect before making an approach, no longer a spry athlete prepared to bound forward and greet a challenge. There was an undeniable surge of protectiveness for his newfound friend, though, and he suddenly felt a nudge at his shoulder. This was followed by a squeal, and really, that was all he needed to rally his old stud energy. Encouraged by her reaction to the stranger, he bobbed his head before taking a few quick steps forward. No more rushing forward at the slightest provocation, but he still had a good, bellowing neigh, which he let forth, ears perked. It would be a lie to say he wasnโ€™t working a little harder at holding himself up tall for the grey mare, making taut the old muscles and curving his neck just slightly.

the stallion concluded that he would simply allow her to reach out rather than him, knowing that she seemed conflicted over it. that last thing he needed was a kick to the chest or wherever else a flying hoof would hit. while his full attention was on that of the mare in front of him, he still kept the other two without his sights. it seemed that ariah was now conversing with meredith, good, this time he would not butt in this time around, his focus now was on courting estrella enough to join ariah and himself.

her words seemed true enough, he could see how most around her age would want the feeling of protect and the security of the herd. though if she always acted so nervous around newer horses, that would probably be an issue come down the line that he was sure his older mares would hopefully pull her out of. realizing he had yet to response to her words, he finally spoke up, his voice deep and rather to the point of things, mael was not for playing strings with others, though he would entertain some teasing and games, he rarely initiated it. "well, that i can provide you should you decide to stick around estrella." the onyx stallion said, allowing his ears back to their original pricked state and letting his body somewhat relax a little. he watched her take a step forward, though he did not move from where he stood, letting her decide what it is she wanted, otherwise his attentions would turn elsewhere.

the mare seemed rather conflicted in her own hormones from the looks of it. it was rather amusing watching the two younger horses, though she was glad that joker had corrected himself from getting a hoof to the chest. the gray mare turned her attentions back to her stallion, awaiting his reaction now towards kip as she herself lowered her head to the ground and began to rip up the greenery around them. she would occupy herself with eating for now, then she would most likely come into the conversation should she feel the need or if joker needed her to. she did not think that kip would be an issue to her honestly, though asanti would make it known who was in charge here and among other things.

the young chestnut watched the two converse, knowing that the stallion was also including her even if she did not join in the conversation. her wariness was still there, despite the fact he meant them no harm and offered the ideals of a herd. it seemed like a good offer and it wasn't until farrah introduced herself and then turned the attention on her that she realized the younger mare wanted her to make the decision. ear's lowered for a slightly moment as she thought about the idea, nox seemed able to take care of himself and he did not seem immature like the stallions around their own age. there would be no reason not to take up his offer honestly, and it was the most logical.

the mare flicked her tail, spreading her rather strong scent, though not on purpose currently. she was silent, letting it draw out as she looked over the stallion and the tales of his victories or losses, she didn't know honestly. her gaze then turned to her friend, who had already seemed to have a liking for the stallion known as nox. she decided it couldn't hurt honestly, so she would accept his rather to the point offer. "and i am ramona, nox. i suppose we can stay with you." she said finally as she took a step or two forward and reached out to exchange steps with the stallion, though she had yet to relax in his presence.

it had been nearly a week since the birth of her foal, it had been a stillborn and the mare did feel the sorrows of the lost. snorting, she picked up a trot towards a small water source, a run off that she could hear not far off. her feathered legs were covered in filth and she aimed to clean them along with the rest of her dirty coat. she had yet to fully blow her winter coat and without anyone to help with grooming, she was pretty dirty. the water was within sight and she slowed her pace before splashing in the water. once she felt her legs were cleaned off enough, she let herself drop down after making sure her surroundings were safe. the gypsy vanner cross rolled in the water before pushing herself back up to her hooves, shaking and then glancing around. she saw nothing of interest so she moved on, letting the sun dry her wet coat.

her mane and tail still dripped with droplets of water as she moved, her coat not completely clean but better than the ragged loot she had prior. despite the harsh winter, she had kept herself in good enough shape so she had energy to spare for now. she continued to move at a steady trot, her bi-colored gaze scanning the terrain in search of company. she disliked being alone for many a reasons, one of which was that solitude did not fit the mare very well. her prior herd had scattered during a mountain lion attack and she had not seen any of them since. now without a foal, she had no means to be wary of any horse, stallion included. the poor colt did not even have a chance at life, the stress of the attack had probably been the cause or maybe due to the fact that she had gone into labor a little too early. pushing her thoughts to the side, she picked up her pace, for one hoping the wind resistance would continue to help dry her damp coat.

it was not long before she spotted what looked to be a small herd in the distance. moscato paused, observing them first from a distance. her scent was not nearly strong enough to really gain any attention nor would she allow any major courting until later. her eyes focused on that of the filly that seemed to be with them, reminding her slightly of what she herself could have. snorting, her ears pinned slightly before she decided to allow herself to be seen, moving further up and towards them, standing still and holding her head high. she did not make a sound, knowing very well that if these horses were smart, they would also be scanning the area every so often for any threats, she would be spotted at some point and that would be when she would decide what she wanted to do.

Nodding to his response, Estrella took more steps forward towards him. Her nose was close to him, and his breathing sent puffs of warm air onto her nose, a little lower. "I may be inexperienced, I know." She said, just so the stallion could here. "But I know your purpose of snaking me was, quite obviously, to claim and cover me. Please know that I don't want to be a trophy. I'm a horse." Estrella had heard the age-old complaint of mares. That they were a trophy to a stallion's collection. To flaunt and be pleased with. Of course, she wanted to please, in her young foolishness. But Estrella also hoped to at least trust Maelstrom to protect her and possible future foals. Estrella, though, wouldn't hand herself to Maelstrom. So she turned, glancing at Maelstrom to make him pay attention, and turned with her neck close to the onyx stallion's nose. Estrella held her neck wide open for grooming, hoping he'd take the hint. It had felt nice before (until he'd gone too far), like when she was back with her mother on dark stormy nights and her mother, a beautiful pinto, would soothe her with nibbles. She wondered if she would frustrate her possible soon-to-be stallion, taking up his time. Estrella decided she was worth the time he spent on her.

After the first shrill nicker, she took quite a few steps back, pushing her young-looking foal far underneath her. Malcolm contemplated whether he should go closer. It was clear that by body language and her nicker, that she was unsure of what to do about him. He stayed put, wondering if she'd initiate a closer greeting or if he should let them be. Malcolm would be patient with her - he had quite a lot of patience with fear. He had no tolerance, however, of obnoxiousness or arrogance. Those two qualities drove him up a wall. The second, surer nicker cut, clean as a knife, through the mid-morning air. Malcolm took this as an invitation to move a little closer. However, he sensed a lingering unease about her. This he'd be careful with, not to upset this mare into bolting and straining her little filly's legs. The bay stallion took walking steps towards her. He walked with no sense of urgency, just a collected movement of his hooves. Soon they were a little bit apart, to give the mare room, and Malcolm nickered softly. He needn't be loud for they were close, but he was sure to let the mare have a choice in the matter of coming towards him. His nicker was an invitation for her to exchange scents and a calm greeting.

As Eve travelled through the plains, the smell of winter fleeing was rich in the air. Her hooves lightly graced the ground, uncovering rich brown that matched her own pelt. Her flaxen tail and mane stood out richly amongst her body, and she walked elegantly, almost like a wraith. With the perfume of a heat entering the fourth stage, the horse's Arabian features stood out greatly, a chiseled face, lean muscles, a pronounced barrel. And yet, she was sturdier too, larger, with the blood of the brumby. Her eyes held the memory of some other time, some other place whilst she actively scouted for available stallions, a dream and a reality all at once. It hadn't been too long since she lost her colt, and she still felt slightly burdened by the loss, putting a slight drag in her tail when she swept it about her, a silent calling card. She did not call out. She never did. She disliked commotion, and those who would want to come simply would. She was quite near other horses, she could smell and hear them, after all. The more observant ones would pick up her scent and take it. If not, their loss. Lowering her head to graze, her ears poised so straight they looked as if they might break, staying painfully alert, Eve grazed.

A sudden neigh broke into the air, making Snowโ€™s head shoot into the air, startled. Turning in a quick movement, Snow saw a large stallion step into the light, lifting his head high. They were both black in colour and tall (if Snow would only stop making herself appear smaller), but where Snow was lean and wired for speed, he was large in bulk, any one of his hooves the size of two of hers. For a moment, Snow simply stared.

As he stepped forward, Snow let out a tremulous neigh, taking a step backward, the colt she had been talking to forgotten as she prepared to bolt. In response, he seemed to pause once more, and she did as well. Silence stretched on long and anxiously, before finally, Snow took a nervous step forward, letting out a whinny of greeting, her every muscle poised to run.

The dark mare stood unfazed by Valeria's showy displays, only softening when the younger mare shied to the side to let out another welcoming nicker. Valeria whinnied back, but pranced a little on the spot, her need for company warring with her need to be unrestrained at all times. Unsure, her ears flicked back and forth, before she let out another whinny, prancing along the imaginary line Royalty had set.

In the end it was the stallion that broke the impasse, moving forward. As he stepped in front of the darker mare, Valeria thought she saw the darker mare's ears twitch, possibly out of irritation, but she stayed. Now curious, Valeria focused on the stallion as he spoke, noting how he introduced the both of them and bobbing her head in response. A herd, then. Though their interactions between each other didn't speak of habit, it was clear there was affection held between the two of them, so maybe they were newly formed. "I'm Northern Cavalry, but Valeria is fine."

Valeria contemplated throwing a little snark at the stallion-she greatly doubted that the two of them were 'delighted', not many were all that happy to meet a troublemaker like her- but instead regarded him carefully. Now more than a little interested, her curiosity broke the tie and she moved closer, lowering her head as she approached in a grudging show of respect. There was more than enough time to test boundaries later, even if Royalty seemed pretty set. Coming closer, she slowed, before stretching her neck and reaching out, offering to exchange scents.

It was easy enough to see the dynamics between the two. They were close, with Farrah following Ramonaโ€™s lead. As Farrah blushed, Nox politely bumped his nose to hers, taking in her scent so heโ€™d recognize it. As he did, the heat scent of both mares came in strong, but he forced himself to leave it alone for the time being. Whilst younger stallions were wholly focused on covering as many as they could as quickly as they could, Nox was more interested in stability and good ground. Get your herd comfortable and stable, and foals would naturally follow after. Farrah shifted out of the way after, and for a second, Ramona seemed shocked, as if she had not realised that she was who the decision lied upon.

To be fair, both the mares were very young, and Nox quietly noted to himself that perhaps searching for an experienced mare after would be a good aim. He hadnโ€™t been planning to start getting a herd so soon, but now that he might have one, it was good to get it as secure as possible so everyone would be safe.

As Ramona thought, she let her tail sway from side to side, spreading her scent. Nox looked away for a brief moment, collecting himself. If she had meant it, it would have been artful seduction, but looking at the situation it was not done on purpose. Of course, that didnโ€™t make it any easier to deal with.

But it seemed his restraint was rewarded. After a moment, Ramona agreed, stepping forward. Stepping forward as well, Nox nuzzled her gently, breathing in and memorizing her scent as well as allowing her to get used to his. From the tension in her body, she obviously was still quite wary, but he would take that in stride for now. After the exchange, Nox took a step back, letting her know that he wouldnโ€™t push her, that she could have her space.

Strangely, the two mares didnโ€™t quite smell like each other. Sure enough, there were distinct patches of themselves on each other, but they hadnโ€™t been around each other for their scents to mingle the way oneโ€™s did when one became a herd. They had newly found each other, then. For them to have such strong ties with each other after just meeting was strange, but looking at Farrah and how he felt about her, maybe that little paint had a knack for getting close to others.

At the thought of Farrah, however, he nudged her withers gently before letting out a questioning nicker. He knew Ramona probably wouldnโ€™t appreciate the offer at the moment, with how wary she was, but perhaps Farrah would like to get rid of her heat. It was always a bit of an odd situation, asking a mare, as some preferred going up to him themselves, whilst others would never ask a stallion, instead waiting expectantly till you made the move. As he did so however, he took a step back, making it clear that she could say no. Nox wasnโ€™t a fan of forcing things on others in general. (Fade?)

(Some time later) After that, Nox let them all graze near each other, just letting the two get used to his presence. Suddenly, a loud neigh bellowed through the clearing, full of fear. Though they werenโ€™t near, the call couldnโ€™t be interpreted as anything but a warning. Though he usually didnโ€™t interfere in the actions of other horses, there was something in that call that he seemed to recognize deep within him. Letting out a quiet snort, he looked in that direction. It wasnโ€™t too far from here... though he wasnโ€™t going to walk his herd straight into disaster, they did need to move. With both the maresโ€™ heat scents and how long theyโ€™d lingered, it was probably prime time to move anyway.

Looking back at the two, he gestured for them to follow him before trotting toward the sound, making to stay in the underbrush so whoever it was wouldnโ€™t be able to see them if they didnโ€™t want to be seen.

The sight that greeted his eyes wasnโ€™t a nice one. A mare, heavily distended with foal, currently stared down a stallion that seemed to visibly emanate irritation. She was a big mare, and carried herself confidently, but it was clear to anyone that it was all show. That far into pregnancy, she wasnโ€™t going to be able to do much of anything.

Nox didnโ€™t really want to interfere in the other stallionโ€™s affairs. He knew full well that bad things happened and if you tried to stop everything you didnโ€™t agree with, youโ€™d just end up broken. The Nox that spread himself out too thin was a young ideal driven stallion that had quickly learned better.

And yet, perhaps because of the winter, because he had spent the past few weeks literally watching his own child waste away in the cold, he felt his heart go out for that mother. Making his decision quickly, Nox turned to Farrah and Ramona. โ€Stay hidden in the brush here. I will return.โ€ His tone was a bit apologetic, knowing that it was definitely a little rude to do such a thing, and that most mares would expect a stallion to only protect those who had agreed to be under them.

Still, his tone was sure, and he moved further away so his herdโ€™s location would be secret. Then, he plunged toward the group, probably taking everyone by surprise. In a deft movement, he shoved his body between the mare and the stallion, facing the stallion with a snort. โ€Leave her alone.โ€ He struck the ground firmly, making it clear that whoever this mare was, she was currently under his protection.

[Indentation]Khrysaor's legs churned through the thick mud, the result of melted snow from the harsh winter mixed with the soft soil of spring upon the plains. With a heavy sigh, he pushed through the last leg-sucking trap, shaking his shoulders as his feet reached the solid ground. Distastefully glancing at his appendages, he snorted and walked downstream to find either a chunk of snow to cleanse most of the mud, or a part of the riverside that was solid. To his thankfulness, he found a supportive bank, and slipped into the river almost seamlessly. As he let the melted glacier water soak off the mud, he decided to drink. Barely dipping his muzzle into the liquid, the scent of a mare caught his attention, and she was strongly in heat. Lurching his head into the air, his nostrils flared, ears harnessing themselves towards the direction the smell came from. Immediately forgetting the reason he had gone into the water, he bounded out, picking up a brisk trot. His mind went haywire, and before he knew it, he was charging for her, the idea of another bachelor grabbing her before he could making his blood boil. As he came over the crest of a hill, he found her at the bottom of the slight slope, and slowed to a walk as he approached. A heavy whinny came from his lips, awaiting her reaction to his appearance.

[Indentation]The cremello mare's body language screamed loudly towards any other who looked her way. She was not to be approached at any moment. With her heat coming on strong, just entering her second stage, she was moody, more than usual. A stray bachelor, maybe one that had just been kicked out of his sire's herd only hours before arrived in her general area. Arching her head high as he flagged himself in an attempt to impress her, she bared her teeth and clacked them in warning. He was obviously not picking up the hint, and began nearing. With a monstrous scream, she barreled him in the shoulder, snaking her head out and gripping his withers with a hasty, yet nasty bite, pivoting around and kicking out. One hoof nicked him in the stifle, the other leaving a solid mark on his neck. Before Hydra could turn around to scare him off some more, he was already fleeing, understanding that he had taken a bigger bite than he could chew. Snorting, she lashed her tail and dropped her head, aggressively ripping at the grass underneath her hooves.

[Indentation]The buckskin mare grazed lazily, minding her own business and thinking later on about what would happen over the rest of the year. Would she find a stallion or a herd to be a part of? Or would she remain alone this year? Having being separated from her previous herd over the winter was difficult. She had gotten stuck in a ravine after a fall, and the scars from the event were obvious on her skin. She had barely made it out once the snow had melted, scraping up her knees on her way up. For quite a while she thought that she was going to die down there, until she found a section of grass that had been untouched by the snow. She had barely any left when the wind shifted and alerted her of the change of season. And from there on, she made her way back to the equine society.

As she grazed, a whinny reached her ear, and she looked up to see a palomino mare along with a stallion. Understanding that this was a chance to have protection, she finished her mouthful of grass, a few strands poking out of her velveteen lips. Silvana waited, watching for the stallion's next movements. Though unsure, she felt that very little could go wrong.

Everest
1.8 Months - Mare - Mood: Curious - Tags: Corvus, Pheonix, Biscuit, Noelle.

Noticing what looked to be another foal in the distance Everest began trotting in its direction, she soon realised the foal was a much larger colt, she froze for a second before throwing her head up and trotting forwards again, stopping about 30 steps away she let out a soft neigh, jumping behind a nearby willow tree soon after.

Esmerelda
9.8 Y/O - Mare - Mood: Nuetral - Tags: Rasputin

Galloping around an empty field full of flowers Esmerelda came to a halt when she saw a rather well built stallion, she stood only about 20 steps away from him, her hooves dug into the soft dirt, her mane brushed over to one side, she let out a low whinny, watching the stallion to see whether or not he would respond.
