Citadel watched as the stallion seemingly rose from the grasses, she watched curiously as his head swayed for only a few seconds before he looked her way, was he hard of sight? The thought came quickly into her mind- not with negativity or apprehension but rather curiosity. Citadel's first born foal had been born entirely blind, at the time she was a snippy young mare, one who thought you needed to have all of your senses to thrive but her young filly had proven her to be sourly wrong. That single foal taught her more about life than anything else could have, she was sure in her old age that she had been given the blind foal so she could grow to be less vain, indeed it had worked. She stood quietly as he walked, munching happily on the cantaloupe, which she had decided was her favorite thing. He approached slowly which she knew from experience took control given her previous antics of spreading the scent of her heat around like it were nothing. Her old stallion, even in his age, lacked control of himself when a mare came into estrus. Even very early on in their heats he would pursue and cover them throughout the day.
The grizzled nicker her offered her had her smile softly and she returned one of her own, albeit it was more delicate and soft. She lowered her head once more, taking another bite out of the cantaloupe and for a moment she enjoyed the silent company, sure they weren't touching or even prancing like yearlings but equines were social animals, the very presence of another horse had made her happy. Upon taking her bite of the cataloupe she nudged it towards him, casting a glance around at several other melons that laid tucked away from sight unless you were deliberately looking for them. She had decided already that she liked this stallion, he wasn't putting on a show, rushing her with dominance and trying to snake her, nor was he trying to mount her upon first meeting. No he seemed to move deliberately and with fore-thought- which meant not only was he smart but he was experienced. She wasn't some willy nilly yearling now, she was a mare in her prime, ripe with knowledge. If she was going to join a stallion's band or herd again and even be covered by one it would be a stallion that was her of her choosing, one she could get along with. His words had her nod in agreement and she finished her mouthful of the sweet fruit hers perking, "It is a glorious day isn't it?" She said, her voice was mellow and friendly, "Nothing quite beats finding company and a new fruit, does it?" She added on the last bit, giving an amused whuff before she reached out towards him, she was able to reach his cheek and she let her velveteen lips wobble against his face in a warm and gentle welcome. There were many purposes behind the action, it was a test. Some stallions would take the touch as her welcoming them to cover her, which she wasnt. She however used it for more purposes than just that, it might be able to tell her if her assumptions of him being hard of sight or even blind were true. Her filly had always reacted well to touch and she was curious if he would do the same. However she was also taking in his scent as she did so, familiarizing herself with it.
She pulled her head away from him now, "My name is Citadel- what might yours be?" She spoke softly, lowering her head to nibble on the the cantaloupe once more. Her actions spoke that she was comfortable with his presence- that she wasn't going to bolt away from him.
