Eve heard him before she saw him, the heavy footfalls and harsh breaths over the side of the hill. Not bothering to hide, Eve looked over curiously, seeing a large paint stallion appear over the crest of the hill, his chest heaving with the exertion. Seeing no competition, he slowed, before letting out a whinny of greeting.
Eve watched him slow approvingly. With the speed of his climb on that hill, she wouldn’t have been surprised if he’d run down to her and started pushing her immediately. Of course, if he’d tried she’d have run, despite being so deeply in heat. Whilst she’d be fine with any stallion, like any mare, she would greatly prefer one who had manners.
Expressionlessly watching the stallion draw closer, she didn’t give him very much to work on. She didn’t beckon him closer, but she didn’t pin her ears nor dissuade his approach. As he got closer, she could see that he was a stallion very much in his prime, and whilst he was large, he wasn’t as large as a draft might possibly be, which meant that whilst a foal would be inconvenient, it wouldn’t break her apart. After all, Eve knew she was a small mare. Looking at the confident way he carried himself, Eve finally decided he would be a good sire for a foal this year. Still, she also knew that it was spring. She had time to be a little choosy, though being this deep in her heat meant that she didn’t want to struggle especially hard.
That decided, Eve returned a welcoming nicker, lifting her tail in an open invitation. But then, as he drew ever closer, she was gone.
Turning swiftly, she was dashing into the woods as fast as she could. Right before she entered the woods, she turned, looking at the stallion and shooting him a smile. Then, with a golden flick of her tail, she ran.

At the patience and gentle nature the stallion showed, taking extra care to not touch her, Snow felt incredibly grateful. She knew she wasn't the easiest mare to get to, with how afraid she tended to be and being newly ripped from her mother's side. The large stallion paused for a long moment, before he finally spoke, introducing himself as Exerxes. Snow bobbed her head at that, letting out a friendly nicker and gently nudging her nose to his, before blushing. "It's nice to meet you too, you're very kind." With that, Snow looked down, blushing quietly.
Unsure what to do next, Snow gently nudged the stallion's cheek, familiarising herself with his scent. As big and strong as he was, he seemed to not have a herd, which confused the mare a little. "Do you have a herd?"

The dark mare stood unfazed by Valeria's showy displays, only softening when the younger mare shied to the side to let out another welcoming nicker. Valeria whinnied back, but pranced a little on the spot, her need for company warring with her need to be unrestrained at all times. Unsure, her ears flicked back and forth, before she let out another whinny, prancing along the imaginary line Royalty had set.
In the end it was the stallion that broke the impasse, moving forward. As he stepped in front of the darker mare, Valeria thought she saw the darker mare's ears twitch, possibly out of irritation, but she stayed. Now curious, Valeria focused on the stallion as he spoke, noting how he introduced the both of them and bobbing her head in response. A herd, then. Though their interactions between each other didn't speak of habit, it was clear there was affection held between the two of them, so maybe they were newly formed. "I'm Northern Cavalry, but Valeria is fine."
Valeria contemplated throwing a little snark at the stallion-she greatly doubted that the two of them were 'delighted', not many were all that happy to meet a troublemaker like her- but instead regarded him carefully. Now more than a little interested, her curiosity broke the tie and she moved closer, lowering her head as she approached in a grudging show of respect. There was more than enough time to test boundaries later, even if Royalty seemed pretty set. Coming closer, she slowed, before stretching her neck and reaching out, offering to exchange scents.

At his kick, the paint stallion reacted with trying to plant his hooves squarely into Nox's side. Dancing to the side but unable to quite get fully out the way, the paint stallion's grazed his side painfully, making Nox let out an angered snort. Then, the stallion seemed to pause, before aiming a final kick that this time, Nox saw coming. Lithely dancing out the way, Nox studied his opponent quietly. Whilst the other stallion was younger, he was also more muscular than Nox, having a sturdier, built frame where Nox was lean and precise. It was clear that the other was one versed with plunging ahead in battle, and Nox prepared himself for what could be a long fight ahead.
However, the paint stallion turned, nudging his mare away, and that was that. With a snort, Nox moved toward his herd quickly at a trot, seeing as the paint stallion hadn't quite noticed yet. When they were safe, he would ask them why they'd exposed themselves for, right now, timing was of the essence.
But then, his luck had run out. Suddenly, he heard hooves galloping behind him, and he knew that the paint had seen his mares. Pivoting on the spot, Nox pinned his ears, stepping right in Trigger's way. However, this didn't seem to dissuade the paint, and as Trigger barrelled ahead, calling his bluff, Nox stepped out the way, not really wanting to collide. With the other stallion's stockiness, he would be on the losing end of that. Still, he could move faster.
Deftly stepping out the way right when Trigger was about to collide into him, Nox bit at Trigger's withers, trying to use his size to slow the other. This way, Trigger would have to struggle against his size, and with him so close, any kicks the paint stallion wanted to give him would hit, but wouldn't hurt as much as the leg would be unable to fully extent.
As he did so, he looked to the others. If they were smart, they'd have gone back into the foliage, where he could dodge use his agility to his advantage whilst the paint's larger frame would harder to maneuver. The pregnant mare was there-surprisingly with her bulk she had not fallen behind-, doing exactly that, and he saw Farrah disappear into the trees. However, as he looked around, he very quickly realised that a certain chestnut mare was not moving.
Nox frowned, before letting go of Trigger to let out a loud bellow for her to flee. Pinning his ears, Nox dropped his head, trying to bite at Trigger's knee to force the other stallion into a kneel. He bit something, but he wasn't sure if it was effective. Nox was a stallion that used his agility and the environment, so challenging the stallion outright wasn't very smart. Still, he wanted to buy Ramona time.
Ramona bucked at the stallion but then Nox watched in shock as she then moved where Trigger went instead of turning toward the trees. Surprised with what she'd did with the opening he gave her, Nox paused a little, snorting heavily.
Now with his Farrah and Ramona being in two different places, if he chose to race after Ramona he'd leave Farrah and that mare and her foal at risk-whilst the mare was faster than she seemed to be, being so heavily pregnant he doubted that she had gone far- but to protect Farrah and the other mare would leave Ramona open.
Watching Ramona literally saunter to the paint stallion's herd, Nox let out a snort, meeting her eyes. When he did, she pinned her ears, pawing at the ground defiantly. Well, she had clearly made her choice. Pinning his own ears in return and nodding to her so she knew he'd gotten the message, Nox had a pretty good idea of whose idea it had been to step out. Still, he knew his actions had been less than ideal, so with a snort, he took a step back and kicked at Trigger's nose, knowing that with how he'd landed a hit before, another hit would make the stallion hurt for quite a few days, and if Trigger dodged, that would open up more space. With that done, he dashed into the trees, before pivoting and looking at Trigger. Hopefully Trigger would take his win and go, but if Trigger tried to fight Nox in the forest, he would find Nox ready to meet him.
