Shadow was unconscious on the ground and her head felt dizzy and light, only a twitch of her ear and her shallow breaths showed that Shadow was still breathing, although so still on the outside her heart was racing and in full honesty she looked dead, Shadow’s touge was sticking out slightly and she was sprawled out in an uncomfortable position, her nose was starting to dry in the intense heat beating down on her, in the distance a lioness was prowling around, she pricked her ears obviously scenting hyena, she lowered her head and tail in a perfect stalking crouch, the lioness slowly moved forward her colours of gold blending in perfectly, you would have to squint your eyes to even catch a glimpse and even then you couldn’t be fully sure she was there, the stench of the lion seemed to rouse Shadow her eyes flickered open for a half second.

Ayana sniffed at the dead wildebeest. The smell of fresh meat made her mouth water. But she knew she must let the other hyenas eat. She decided she should go to the matriarch, Olso. she padded over to her den and lowered her head to her. "Hello my matriarch, I have killed a small wildebeest for the cackle, if you'd like to eat some" She said with a gentle voice.

As she spoke to Zenechka, the sudden scent of lion entered her nostrils. Protectiveness coming over her being, Oka stiffened slightly, looking around for the source of the smell. Nudging Mari toward Zenechka, Oka met the elder hyena's eye. "Can you take care of Mari? I smell lion."

With that, Oka moved off, her head low to the ground to scent for the offending animal. It smelled way too close and with the group of lionesses that kept moving closer, she wasn't going to take a chance.

Coming across the scene, Oka's heart leapt. Shadow, a cub from the pack was badly hurt, with Lutalo attempting to help her, his back facing the stalking lioness. Not wanting the lioness to kill two of the pack but also unwilling to blindly put herself in the fray, Oka let out a low whoop that everyone in the pack would be able to hear. The sound was an alert of danger, and a request for anyone not protecting the pups to come out and form up.

Luckily, this was only one lioness. The sound also alerted the female cat to her presence and Lutalo to the lioness'. Now knowing there were two able bodied hyenas, the lioness seemed to pause, hissing, but obviously not giving up from trying to kill the cub.

As Zenechka nuzzled her, Mari let out a quiet squeak of happiness, pushing her nose against Zenechka and wagging her tail. Going unto her hind legs, she tried to clamber up the other hyena playfully. "Good! Will you play with me today?" At the thought, her tail wagged more, happy at the promise of playing some games.

However, when her mother pushed her aside, Mari tumbled, falling with a squeak. She looked up indignantly, but her complaints were silenced by the seriousness in Oka's tone. Usually Oka was unchangeably playful, and anything to cause such a change was dangerous. Snuggling into Zenechka, Mari whined as her mother bounded off. "Did something happen, Zenechka?"

Shadow had managed to raise her head slightly, she gazed helplessly at the others, it made her feel shame that she couldn’t even defend herself or even stand without wobbling and falling over again, her ears and tail were down indicating that the pain was practically unbearable, the lioness moved closer, she was obviously a foolish young female who was braver than what was sensible, she let out an uncertain but determined growl and lashed her long thin tail side to side, the lioness reeked of blood, zebra maybe, she had definitally made a recent kill, and it looked like she was hoping to add hyena to her list of things she hunted that day, the lioness was still a good few feet away but close enough so whenever she decided to make her move it would be quick and easy, although young the lioness looked well muscled and she had long legs that would help her catch the hyenas if they had to make a run for it, but she was still young and therefore inexperienced, Shadow made another attempt to stand, she looked wobbly but was able to stay up, the lioness looked hungry, she was probably being picked on by the others, hunger would make her harder to get rid of.
