Moonlight Whispers
moon {} mare {} eight years {} thoroughbred {} location: riding school {} herd: none {} heat stage 2 {} tags: cypress

Moon nodded. Luckily, this mare didn’t seem at all aggressive. Moon walked over and examined the tie. From what she could tell, it seemed like the mare had pulled on the tie and made it tighter than it had originally been. Moon lifted her head up for she could reach the tie and attempt to undo it. After a few minutes of attempts, she finally managed to undo the tie. Then, Moon lowered her head and took a few steps back, giving the mare some space. “You must be starving!” She whinnied before turning around. Now, where would the humans keep the- There! she thought as she approached a door. It was luckily the size to fit both equines and humans, so she stopped as she reached it. Moon stretched out her neck and touched the door with her nose, trying to figure out what type of door it was. Where she had lived, there were two different types of doors, the push doors where you simply pushed them and they opened, and the handle doors where you would turn a handle to open it. When her nose touched the door, it easily gave in and moved at the touch of her nose. Moon then walked into the room where there were odd looking things that smelled of grain, and there was also a pile of hay. It was low, and it certainly couldn’t feed an entire barn, but it was enough to offer the mare. Moon grabbed as mug as she could carry, and she trotted out of the room and back to the mare. “Here.” She neighed before setting the hay on the floor for the mare.

Elemental Run
aria {} mare {} five years {} arabian {} location: near a water source {} herd: none {} heat stage 1 {} tags: romeo

Aria simply smiled in agreement as she quietly followed the chestnut stallion. Though she was quite picky when it came to stallions, Romeo seemed like a decent stallion. The mare pricked her ears forward when Romeo suddenly picked up his pace and neighed for Aria to keep up. She wasn’t sure what he was chasing, but she decided to keep up anyways. After a few steps, she took a breath and realized what he had starting chasing after. Water. She hadn’t realized that she was very thirsty until now, and she now happily followed after him.

Solar Eclipse
solar {} mare {} six years {} unknown mix {} location: pasture {} herd: none {} heat stage 2 {} tags: magic, val

Solar rolled her eyes. “Yes, I’m fine.” She replied before turning to Magic. “No, I’m afraid not.” She replied, a hint of worry in her tone. She didn’t want to slow Magic and Val down with her leg, but she didn’t want to stay alone either. Magic was right, the humans had disappeared which meant they wouldn’t be bringing her food nor water. Though in her pasture, she had never really had much shelter other than a small barn where she could stay while it rained.

Rising To The Throne
king {} stallion {} ten years {} thoroughbred {} location: barn {} herd: none {} coverings: 0 {} tags: orana

“I don’t understand why the humans just... disappeared.” He sighed. He felt embarrassed as the mare said how she’d kicked her stall door down. He was supposed to be a strong stallion who could do something like that, but he’d been too stupid. “Maybe we should look for other horses?” He asked, ignoring his thoughts. “Maybe everyone’s owner disappeared.” he questioned. He glanced to the door for a moment before back to her, calmly waiting for her to answer.

A Dancing Passion
akito {} stallion {} eight years {} alkal-teke {} location: gwendolyn’s barn {} herd: none {} coverings: 0 {} tags: gwendolyn

Akito stayed where he was, for now atleast. “I don’t believe we have.” He replied. “I’m Akito, and what might your name be, beautiful?” He asked in a flirty tone. He could see the beautiful mare clearly now, and the memories of being a stud lingered in his mind. Though, he tried to act not too interested in fear of the mare running off. Akito’s blue eyes met her gaze as he stood, awaiting for her response.

♡ King of Hearts ♡

Heart

Stallion | 16.2 hh | Paint Horse | 8 Years | Link | Mares: Trinidad? | Coverings: 0 | Feeling: Awed|Tag/s: Trinidad

_____________

Listening to his newest acquaintance with interest, Heart cannot help but smile at the ease she had in speaking. The grullo takes in her sentences thoughtfully. Human's had most definitely left, it did seem, and that left every horse to decide their own future. Perhaps this wouldn't be at all, especially if it was giving the chance to meet others like Trinidad. Barely thinking of the fact that he had never jumped in his life, Heart almost stammers out a yes to joining her in the pasture. He opens his mouth, quickly finding himself stunned into silence. His ears flick forward as he watches the stunner collect herself for the jump. This is was new to him, and he instantly admired her for having courage to take the leap. He briefly flicks his eyes back down to fence. It had never occurred to him that jumping fences this high would be possible, before the humans were gone. Heart takes a few steps back to give Trinidad room. In a flash, or so it had seemed to him, the bay mare had made it over. Her ominous thud when landing, accompanied with softer sound of her shoe hitting the ground as well. It takes him a moment to work his way through the shock,
but he instantly clambers towards her. She seems to know his thoughts as she confirms her own health, easing the ping of worry that had settled in the stallion's heart. He watches her for a moment more, confirming to himself that she hadn't broken anything or been heavily injured. A small grin slips onto his face, and he says,"You're astounding! That was amazing Trinidad,I would not believe it possible if I hadn't just seen it." He steps forward, thoughtfully ignoring the fact that her heat scent was stronger now that was here with him. "Normally, I wouldn't be this forward. But, it seems to be a new frontier for us. I'd love if you would accompany me on my travels, Trinidad. You're easily one of the most remarkable, extraordinary horses I have ever met. Of course, it does seem that this place means a lot to you, " He trails off looking at her hopefully. Something told him that wherever this was it wasn't exactly the perfect place. He wanted to see just a little bit more of the world.

Life of a Water Lily

Lily

Mare | 15hh | Mountain Pleasure| 9 Years | Link| Herd: None |Heat: 1 | Feeling: Content | Tag/s: Open

_____________

Traveling to new places has a way of sucking the energy out of a horse. The constant moving wears on your body, and the ceaseless sense of overwhelming new fries your brain. Despite this, Lily found herself thriving! Foods tasted differently, the animals spoke in weird ways, the trees changed their shapes and textures. The roan couldn't quite remember how long she had been on the road, but she still knew that it had been long enough that she should have seen humans by now. The day had grown hot quickly, melting into a stuffy spring day full of animals and glee. It hadn't taken Lily very long to decide that the middle of the day was best spent finding some quiet place to settle. Eating, napping, imagining the future she had taken; it all was all spent in the comforting shade of quiet trees. It is underneath one of the gentle giants that Lily lays now, dozing off to the soft tune of a song bird calling to its mate.

Our Darling Sadie

Sadie

Mare | 16.1 hh | Spotted Saddle | 12 Years |Link| Herd: None |Heat: 2 | Feeling: Exhausted | Tag/s: Open

_____________

Inside the dusty corridor, days had passed. The only way of knowing came in the form of a small crack in the heavy wooden door guarding their death chamber, a crack that allowed light to dance through during the day. Sadie stood, as she had for however long it had been since the humans abandoned their horses. Her stall was much too small to allow her to turn, or do much more than shuffle from side to side it. It began as a chamber for a darling show horse, kept small to prevent the animal from getting dirty before her performance. Now, Sadie accepted it as nothing more than a roomy coffin. Her fellow horses, a small selection of once prized horses awaiting their chance to preform, had done the same. The first day was one of fear, terror, and hope of return. As the second started, they knew it to be one of hunger, and hurt. A third proved to be a very bad day. The gelding stalled next to her, convinced he could escape, had half-reared onto his door the entire day. Eventually, it did splinter as his hoof struck. It also cut deeply, and trapped him. Sadie refused to look. Over and over, like the song from the last performance, she thought of Edith. And the mare was beginning the despise her. How dare she leave her? Trapped, starving, and thirsty to boot? Having been trapped in her angry thoughts, Sadie was shocked when one of the four other horses spoke. In a hoarse whisper, she says,"I-I.I hear hoof beats!" They all turn out ears, straining to hear the sounds. Was it nothing more than their imagination? Surely, it had to be. After days spent trapped, how could any horses remain? But-no! A most familiar clip-clop pattern, the slightest whisper of a heavy mane. Excitedly, the spotted mare calls to the stranger,"Help! Help us!" The group waits with baited breath, too nervous to be anything more than hopeful. At first, nothing. The thrum of noises stops, but where? Has the horse gone past? Left us?
Then, with an almighty cRaCK, the giant door that had guarded them from sight begins to explode at the handle. More kicks or hits, or whatever the savior is doing, shatter the wood. How strong this horse must be, to break it! Then, the right door swings outward. In steps a hulk of a stallion, built of muscle and hair it seems. "Holy! We thought that everyone had escaped, had made it free. Give me a moment, you'll be free soon!" He disappears, leaving the weary group with nothing to do but wait. Minuets later, the same dark coated head comes back into sights, followed by a fellow of the same characteristics. Without giving them a moment to speak, another mare pipes up,"Please help us. We've had no food, water, nothing! Please. Her words fade out, leaving the two studs to frown. "Of course! Brother, what's to do?", the newcomer looks to the previous. "Kick, break, anything! The snaps on the doors are metal, but a few well placed kicks might break them." No one inside says anything, simply waiting. The eldest trots to a stall in the back, peeking in. Turning, he lashes out at the door. It seems to shudder, but nothing comes free. He sighs, but quickly repeats his motion. The hooves on his body are larger than any Sadie had seen, and they manage to knock something loose this time. The stall doors opens an inch, it's closing latch dangling from a screw. Whoever is trapped inside must have barreled into the door, for it quickly gives way. Out comes a short, disheveled Arabian, heaving. With a quickly squeaked out thanks, the tiny mare shoots out the door. As she speeds by, Sadie catches a scent that explains her sudden departure in the presence of such hulking males. The pair sets to work on every door. A wary gelding comes out next, black coat still gleaming from whatever oils his owner had used. He waits for a moment, but leaves with a sad look in his eyes with the excuse of finding food and water for everyone. The original goes to another occupied door, and his companion comes to the broken one next to Sadie's. He gasps at whatever is contained now, turning with a look of distaste and sadness to the mare. She is quickly freed, thanking her saviors over and over again. The door beckons her. Sadie walks out into the lofty area underneath the arena seats, waiting. Soon enough, the last horse is set free. She comes ambling out, slumped. It seems to surprise her that another mare had remained behind, but she comes to Sadie's side very quickly. The quiet gelding returns a moment later, leading the wary group to what he had found. Further down the hall, finally far enough away from the arena to no longer hear the repeated tune, he motions forward. There, a full trough of water! The smell of grain, spilling from a small broken door, runs over the black and white horse in waves.

Magick of the Fairy Kingdom

Fairy

Mare | 16 hh | Knabstrapper | 3 Years |Link| Herd: None |Heat: 1| Feeling: Happy |Tag/s: Star

_____________

With a soft nudge to express that she would lead him, Fairy begins to walk away. "Star is a gorgeous name! It reminds me of the people, because one of them always talked about the sky. I believe it was their job." She drops her head slightly, quickly stopped from her pout by the restriction of the reins. They had been tried loosely, and slipped onto the large horn a top her saddle. The trust that she had been so proud of just weeks ago, now showed itself to be a burden. She turns her eyes to Star, pondering if he could help. Just as she is about to ask, he offers. With a big grin, she responds,"It seems that they really are gone, so I would prefer to get it off. The material isn't too heavy, it's just a training saddle and summer blanket, but these reins are going to be a problem." Turning onto the entrance to the creek trail, it's official marker proclaiming it to 'Shady Oaks, Trail #16', she quickly speaks again. "After we get you to the water, could you help me take it off?"

Smudged Palette

Palette

Mare | 15.3 hh | Florida Cracker | 3 Years |Link| Herd: None |Heat: 4 | Feeling: Flirty | Tag/s: Rocky

_____________

Letting out a loud laugh at the draft's comment, Palette says,"Well, I'm glad! I've been impulsive since the day I was born. Works wonderfully with cattle, not so much with distracted humans." The dark mare starts at first when Rocky's lips begin to groom her, but she quickly relaxes into the massage. Impatience begins to fill her as the seemingly calm stud works his way back slowly, gently. She controls to urge to demand he speeds up, just barely. Finally, as he asks for permission without words, she lets out a grateful sigh. Following instinct, Palette flips her tail out of the way. She wasn't a horse that scares easily, and by this point had all but forgotten about their size differences.
-fade-
Turning to the stallion with a wicked grin, Palette says,"That's definitely a very warm way to give a greeting!" The combined adrenaline from her recent activities begins to wear away, leaving the small mare to let out an exhausted groan. The ground had most certainly not been soft, and her skin was bruised in more places than she thought possible.

Grace of a Wildfire

Wildfire

Colt | 16 hh | Warmblood x Mustang | 1.9 Years | Link| Herd: Bachelor |Coverings: 0| Feeling: Anxious |Tag/s: Blizzard

_____________

The chestnut considers his new knowledge for a moment. At the stables, it had seemed like the smart thing to leave.
Wouldn't it be better to leave like the others, to look good in their eyes? But, according to two different horses now, it wasn't just his humans that had up and left. A deep sense of being so, so small in comparison to the open land around him sends the colt into an anxious tizzy. He breaths somewhat sporadically, but answers,"Yes, I am alone. There weren't any standing friends at the stables for me to team up with." He sighs slightly, but is filled with a sense of pride at having achieved a normal pattern of breathing again. Wildfire knew that he young, and not very confident, but he had hope. It had been months since his mother had died, leaving his alone. He couldn't have been older than Blizzard looked now, but he was old enough to remember the many stories his dam would tell in her sing-song voice. Tales of love, and adventure, and freedom in absence of human owners.
No snotty children to yank too hard on your bit, or make you nervous with their attitude. Could he ever achieve that on his own?

Boston Charm

Lifting her head up looking around the field Boston pawed the ground anxiously. It had been several days since she had last seen her humans. Walking over to the water trough she sniffed at the bone dry container and looked around helplessly, what had once been her sanctuary away from her tiny stall has now became a prison to her and her foal. Snorting she looked around walking over to Spark sniffing him he was sleeping in the warm spring sun. Pacing the fence line once more she looked around. She sized up the fence and thought to herself. She could easily clear the fence, but Spark on the other hand was much too young to ever clear a four foot fence. She walked over to the gate and sniffed at the chain holding them in. tugging on the chain with her mouth it was wedged in the gate so it wouldn't budge. She couldn't grab the stupid thing with her teeth. Walking over to the fence examining it,
There was a bottom section that seemed to be rotting out. Giving the bottom panel a hard kick she was shocked when it split in half and fell to the ground. It looked like Spark could squeeze under the fence now. Walking over she nudged him awake.

American Made

Spark stood up when his mother nudged him. Looking around still sleepy his eyes were slightly blurry. Blinking a few times he cleared them and trotted after his mother watching her and then noticing the fence. He licked his lips and realize how thirsty he was. Crawling under the fence he stood up when he was past it. Looking around the world seemed so much bigger now. He glanced back at his mother and watched her launch herself over the fence. Giving a small buck he danced away from her not expecting to see his own mother flying through the air! He walked over to her and touched his nose to hers following her lead to the small pond on the property both horses quenching their thirst.

Written in the Stars

Astra looked around the riding ring looking anxious, just five minutes ago her person had been about to ride her.
She was tied to the fence in her leather bridle her saddle not yet on it was still laying on the fence. Prancing around yanking on the bridle trying to get free she looked around terrified. She watched other horses jumping the fence which just scared her more.
She thought she saw something in the tree line and she spooked, yanking back and rearing up on her hind legs feeling the leather creak from tension she tried to come back down but lost her balance. Falling back on her hocks she let out a loud groan before toppling back onto her back. The leather on her reins had snapped. Scrambling up the mare spooked for a second at the whole ordeal and bolted running before she knew it the fence was right in front of her. Jumping over the fence the mare stopped after and stare at the fence "Did I really just jump that?" She thought to herself before looking around. Well what now she wondered.

Voltage nickered softly to his sister “Come on Til!” he pleaded “Think of all the wild horses we see running free in the distance. That could be us! The humans of our farm seem to have gone and if we stay here we will die.” He neighed trying to persuade his more attached sister. “We can find a herd and live in one together” he said tail swishing with excitement and his ears turned in the direction of the promising freedom.

Tilly thought about it for a moment “Well…I don’t know” she neighed being honest. “The humans are gone but…what if they come back?” she asked. When she saw his pleading face she couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like. it was true she had seen the wild horses jumping and galloping together in the distance and she had always wondered what it felt like to be part of a team. “Well…I... I guess we could…” she said with a hint of curiosity in her voice.

Nutmeg had been round the farm twice and had not seen animal nor human. She looked at the hill just behind the stables and couldn’t help but wonder what was behind. Feeling very curious she galloped towards it and looked up at it then back at what she had called home. Neighing a sad farewell to home she turned and trotted up the hill before coming to the top. Before her very eyes lay freedom. It stretched of into the distance and she could see for mile around her. She nickered with amazement and watched bird fly in the sky before she galloped down the hill in utter joy.

The white mare wondered the plains feeling very lonely. She had to admit that she hated being alone. There was just something boring about wondering around on your own when you could be friends or family. She sighed quietly and continued on her journey just enjoying the sited and the thrilling feeling of being free and doing whatever she wanted. If she really wanted she could go splashing around in the stream that she saw coming up ahead or she could go rolling in the tall lush green grass…though probably not a very good idea with her pregnant belly.

Cookie trotted along feeling happy and excited but she also felt a lingering sadness. She had known her home for ten years and grew up on it. It felt weird to know that she would probably never see it ago or her humans or the other horses that she knew. She may see them one day… but “It’s a big world” she said to herself looking here and there for signs of other horses.

The Racing mare took a deep breath of freedom and nickered with joy. She had been travelling alone for a few days now and had not seen another horse around. Autumn still found the thought of being free weird and was almost convinced it was just a dream, but she knew that this feeling of joy and adventure didn’t come from a dream. She heard the birds calling to each other and neighed loudly before galloping along the side of the run just enjoying the wind rushing through her mane and the feeling of running to where ever life took her.

He glanced around them just to make sure there were no humans or horses that could possibly attack them. You never know what could happen in the wild…especially if you were once a farm horse. “Where did you come from?” he asked genuinely curious. The black stallion galloped until he got tired and walked at a gentle pace until he came to a gentle brook. He dipped his head and took a drink for the brook. Looking up at the sky he saw it was almost dark, he glanced around and found a small cluster of tree which would offer some shelter if there was any bad weather. The white stallion kicked at the bottom half of his stall door and nickered with annoyance when it didn’t break. He never really got annoyed but all the other horses stall doors where open and he hadn’t seen a human all day. He kicked at the door one last time and neighed angrily when it didn’t budge. He turned his back to the door and took a drink from the bucket in the corner of his stall and had a nibble of the hay that his owners had left him the night before. Shadowfax lowered his head in loneliness and sadness and lay down. He looked up at the sky through the open door of his stall. He couldn’t help but wonder where everyone was and what they were doing. He nickered sadly and lay his head on the soft hay bed and fell asleep.

A smile curled Gwendolyn's lips when the calm voice sounded behind her. She giggled amusedly at his compliment, her tail snaking slowly at her side. This coquettish game was one of her favorites, but it was still always just a game, really... "Gwendolyn, dear," the mare replied, head tilting softly to one side. Her chocolate gaze met his attentively, studying him with interest as her mane danced around with the cool breeze. The rustle of leaves and grass were the only sounds that covered the short silence between the two horses when Gwendolyn decided to be the first to approach. Taking a few steps forward but retaining her elegant and curious position, her smile widened. She brushed against him slightly, merely observing his reactions - this was surely a tip-toeing game, but she enjoyed it nonetheless.

        YOU ARE NOTHING WITHOUT ME

Monte Carlo suckled noisily on the bottle that the human was holding to his mouth, his little tail flicking happily. Meal time was his favourite part of the day, as it meant a feed and company! Lost in day-dreaming thoughts, his bright, intelligent eyes darted round the little stall that he slept in, wondering about the world behind the walls. A sudden crashing noise and a lack of the rubber teat in his mouth startled him, and he let out a frightened squeal, jumping backwards. Where had the human gone? He was hungry, this was unfair! The abandoned bottle, still half full with creamy, warm milk rolled sadly around on the floor, and Monte shrugged and stepped over to it, trying to feed once again. He couldn’t do it though, as the bottle was too heavy for him to lift and drink out of. Frustrated, he shook his head angrily, forgetting that his teeth were still locked on the rubber part of the bottle, and it flung across the room, meeting the wall with a loud crashing sound, the milk splashing everywhere. He let out another frightened whinny, and pinned his ears at the disturbance. He wanted the human to come back, and give him more! He whinnied louder, and kicked against the door of his stall. That didn’t work, so he backed up and charged at it, colliding with it, but still the wooden obstruction wouldn’t budge. Letting out another whinny, he kicked furiously at the door, before weakly collapsing in a sad little heap. He obviously wasn’t doing enough to get their attention, although that was strange as they usually came at the slightest hint of trouble.

A few days later, Monte was barely strong enough to stand. He had given up all attempts of getting out, it was just no use. He would be dead within a day if no one came to rescue him. He was just so hungry.

        REVOLUTION
Lone mare ♦ 12 years ♦ Heat: Pregnant ♦ Mood: Hungry ♦ Tags: Riot, Estelle, Cherry
DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING?

Revolution looked around her nervously, then back at the fence she’d just broken through. The humans would kill her if they ever saw what she had done, because after all she wasn’t and Arabian, just a stupid Andalusian brood mare. Taking a few steps forward, she scented the air before bending down to eat the grass. She missed the hay and pellets that the humans used to feed her. There were other horses around, but they were mostly Arabians and payed no attention to the quiet mare, grazing on her own. A few hours later, Revolution looked up and realised that a good amount of the horses that had been freed like her had scampered, leaving the yard almost empty. Her pupils contracted slightly and she shivered, getting a little nervous. Horses were herd animals by nature, and although the prospect of leading a life in the wild was a little scary, the fact that she may die alone, without company if she didn’t find someone soon. A little whicker burst forth from her throat, and she whisked her tail and headed to the closest set of stables. Her hooves clopped loudly on the concrete floor as the dapple grey mare entered the seemingly empty building. She let out a whinny and scented the air, before seeing three lithe shapes at the end of the structure. Arabians. Would they take her, or would she be rejected for not being ‘one of them’? Deciding to give it a go, she trotted forward and introduced herself. “H..h..hello? I’m Revolution, who are you?” She said, before narrowing her eyes at the stallion who was with the two mares. She studied him for a second, before her face lit up with recognition. “Riot? Is that you?” She asked in wonder. Riot had covered her a few weeks back, and it was his foal she now carried. He probably wouldn’t recognise her- he was a stud, after all, on a farm with many hundreds of mares, the majority of which were Arabians, each one more stunning and graceful than she could ever wish to be.

YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY HEART

Duchess anxiously ground her teeth, her stomach growling loudly. She had broken out of her paddock, and as a result had required a rather nasty scratch on her left foreleg. It stung a little, but wasn’t a real big deal. Wanting to get away from her own farm, she had galloped until she’d found this one. Maybe there’d be someone here who knew what was happening? She let out a whinny, but instantly regretted it and scolded herself silently. You idiot! Who here would ever want to help an ugly, clunky mare like you? You’re probably disturbing their peace, whinnying as if someone will come to help. Just shut up and keep quiet. She thought, bowing her head and nibbling some grass. Maybe she would just stay here and see if someone did come along. Deciding that it was a bad idea, she let out another whinny. She would die out here on her own, therefore her goal should be to find someone, and fast.

        YOU ARE MY FAVOURITE DISTRACTION.

Napoleon tossed his head and let out a high spirited whinny. He was free from his paddock at last, as the urge for adventure had been far too much for him, and he had jumped the fence on the fourth day of waiting for the humans to re-appear. Now, like many other stallions, his primal instinct was to find himself mares. He let out another whinny, and scented the air. He could smell two horses nearby, although one scent was fainter than the other and accompanied by something else...the cloying, creeping scent of death. The idea of going near such a thing almost put Napoleon off, but there was someone else nearby, and if their companion had passed maybe they might need help too. Letting out a whinny, he followed the scent, as putting off as it was, and soon came upon a trailer, which had taken a detour off the road. Napoleon let out a soft whicker, but jumped as the doors crashed open. “Hello?” He called out, trotting round to look into the trailer. A gorgeous mare crouched inside, nuzzling a dead stallion lovingly. His eyes softened, and he backed off for a bit to let her have some time. He knew what it was like to lose a loved one. After a while, he exhaled softly and spoke. “Miss? Are you alright?”

A smell caught his attention. Heat.. She was in heat. Griffin was inexperienced but he didn't really think that was a good idea. He'd give her some time. "Griffin. Jolene, oh a pretty name for a gorgeous mare." He trotted in a slow circle around her, stopping in front of her. With a charming smile, he spoke to the mare."Why, have you just escaped? Same here. I've had plenty of food and water, but sunlight and fresh air sure does make everything better, doesn't it? Besides, I much better like being free, since it doesn't seem like those humans are coming back. I'm quite new to this - inexperienced, for sure, but would you like to join me? Like, oh I don't know, the beginning of a herd?" He smiled, giving her a friendly bob. However, he didn't know what to do next. He was a bit afraid another stallion might take her. So, in a very inexperienced move, he went around her back and snaked the mare. Griffin hurried her along, expecting that the mare would easily and calmly cooperate. That was what mares were made for, right?

A voice made him turn quickly. "Oh, hello. I suppose you've broken out, too." He thought the grullo mare was a beauty, especially with her lovely eyes and white splash on face. So perhaps it was her beauty, too, that made his attention prick at a smell. He couldn't smell much of it, so he decided to ignore it for the moment. Then he smelt more of a smell that reminded him of the humans. The Marwari spoke. "Are you going to join me? I don't know what's going on.. But there is this smell.." He went around the mare's hindquarters, as he didn't know better. Arnold sniffed inquisitively at the smell. It was like the smell of humans, of tack and stuff. "Have you broken out of a stables, too? I smell the leather and such on you." Ah, so that was the scent the stallion had smelt. The other smell was still a mystery, but at least he had figured out that other horses had broken out of stables, too. The stallion was oblivious to the fact that the mare might kick him for being so close. After all, Arnold was completely new to this 'wild' thing.

Head lifting, Amunet heard the lovely sounds of horses. She moved quickly towards them, but slowed as she came into view - she didn't want to seem desperate or anything. The dapple Arabian drew her head high, letting out a little 'harumph' as she saw the other Arabian mare. Amunet personally thought of herself as a much finer bred horse than this one, and let the other mare know so as she trotted over with an arched neck. She made no direct noise to either horse, but her dainty hoofbeats were obvious, and so was her high-stepping motion. Amunet desired some attention, but first she was going to be as rude as can be to the stallion. The seven-year old paused under a tree, pretending to ignore the two horses. If they wanted her, they could come and get her. And if they didn't, in her mind, she was worthy of finer horses who appreciated her elegance and stunning grace.

"No. I dare say I'm not." Greatly relieved that this mare had heard her and came, Peril sighed. "Thank you. I would have died without you. This awful fence - I can't jump it and it gives with a little zap when I touch it. That little zap sure does hurt!" Pausing, Peril was pretty sure there was a way to turn off the fence. Hm.. Ah, yes! The control panel on the far wall of the barn. The pony's paddock was in a half-circle connected to the outer sides of the barn. Her stall door was on the outer wall that her fence was connected to, but it was locked tight. However, Peril realized that a little farther down, there was a grid or some human contraption that she'd seen the humans use before. Guessing it had something to do with the electric fence, Peril whinnied to the mare, and trotted as close to the fence as she could get, pointed at the grid with her nose. "There. That is the grid thing. I believe it turns off the fence. I simply can't reach it." Peril didn't want to underestimate the distance to the grid with her nose and get a nasty shock, so she asked the Quarter horse to do it for her. "Hm. Bite that grid or something. Then I'll at least not have to deal with shocks when I try to escape."

Spooking at a voice, Milthea crab stepped and reared wildly. She didn't know that anyone else had been around. But here was a stallion. A belgian draft - a large horse like her. Milthea felt unsettled by this stallion. She didn't know if she was quite ready to give up a life of freedom. Besides, she wanted to get her pick of stallions. This one seemed a bit too cool and collected. The pinto Gypsy Vanner picked up a little trot away. She couldn't go very fast, but neither could he. In fact, she was probably a tad faster. Milthea wasn't sure what she'd do if he came after her, she just was a bit unsettled and spooked. She wasn't too interested in stallions yet, though she might be in a little while.

The stallion watched the mare, his ears pricked forward, being sure not to miss a word she said. “Gwendolyn,” he repeated. “a beautiful name, I must say. It’s a fine name for a beautiful mare like you.” he grinned. He watched in interest as the mare stepped forward and brushed against his side, and he turned his head to look at her with a grin. “So,” he began. “what’s a beautiful mare like you doing out here alone?” he asked. Like other horses, he assumed it had only been his humans who had suddenly disappeared. He turned his head forward again, glancing at the barn before back to Gwendolyn. It certainly wasn’t safe out here for a mare, the lack of water and sometimes food, and even other stallion could possibly be out there.

Snorting a soft laugh at her words, Rocky turned away, planning on returning to his grazing. To say that he was a mindful stallion would be... well, it would be an absolute lie. Normally, now, the mare would be taken away, either to her own stall or to her home farm... Never had he had a mare hang around after a covering. Casting an unsure glance to the mare, unsure of what to say or do now, he heard her soft noise of discomfort - oops. He hadn't even considered their size difference until now - a great show of how the stallion's mind worked. Raising his head, watching the mare shamelessly now, Rocky flicked his ears, considering his options. Finally deciding on offering her a grunted "Y'alright?", the stallion's ears flicked back in the direction of the call from earlier, the sudden realization that whoever it was might be close still sending a flush of protective adrenaline through him. If it were another stallion, they could easily snatch her away.

Watching the Arabian mare as she answered, suddenly averting his gaze as he realized that he was blankly staring at her, Riff nodded at her suggestion. A pond might be a good idea, and it might have drawn other horses. Perhaps they could find more mares or stallions to join them... No, something in that thought didn't feel right... Stallions. The thoughts of another male being around his two new companions pushed some sort of jealous, protective buttons within him, making him flick his tail and twitch his ears back involuntarily. Shaking his head lightly, trying to dispel the thoughts, his attention was thankfully pulled away by the paint mare, informing them of a small water source nearby. Something told him to listen to the older paint mare, that she was boss because she was the oldest, but he thought that he should give his two cents anyway. "Thank you both. Sounds like we have a plan. We check the one nearby, and if it's dried up, we go to the pond." Turning his head to the paint mare, he continued. "I think I'll be able for the longer journey, but I had a bucket in my stall with water in it. You've been on those ties for who knows how long, so if there's little water at the nearby source, I'd like you to have as much as you need. I'll be okay for a while longer." Casting a glance to the Arabian mare, hoping that she was okay with this thought, he dipped his head to the paint. "Okay, Dystopia. Lead the way."

With her thirst sated, Inez' youth began to show. Pawing at the water, churning up the mud beneath and sending sprays in all directions, Inez began to pace deliberately, nose low as though she were searching for treasure. Finally finding the spot she was looking for, right on the water's edge, the mare lowered herself to her knees, then her side, then began to roll, head on the bank but body in the cool water. Her coat had felt so dusty, so dirty from being in the sandy arena for a week, this roll felt like heaven. After a few minutes, the mare stood, coat pleasantly cool and dripping. Shaking herself off, she raised her head as Lucina began to approach, ears pricking to her new friend. The other mare was clearly grateful, something Inez shrugged off. "What kind of horse would I be had I left you there?" She said, flicking her tail to send a teasing shower of droplets in the mare's direction. "Anyway, this big wide world would be far too scary alone." Smiling softly, a moment of sober honesty slightly unnerving for the young mare, she shook out her mane. Looking over her shoulder at the surface of the lake, she pondered for a moment, then looked back to Lucina. "So... What now? We could explore, but this seems like a good spot. We have food and water, and could shelter back in one of the barns if we needed it." Flicking her ears uncertainly, Inez watched the older mare, trusting her to be the better judge of the scenario... despite the small age-gap between them.

Huffing out a soft breath at the stallion's reassuring nudge, as though the male had read her thoughts, Requiem snapped her head around at the sound of the call, ears pricking atop her Roman head. Her attention was swiftly caught by the stallion, however - Haskell holding himself proudly like that made her pause, watching his movements eagerly before moving to follow. She was barely within the shadow of the barn when the stench hit her, the scent of death heavy in the air. Stomach lurching, her heart soon made a similar movement. Could there be a horse still alive in there? Hesitating outside the barn, unsure if she could stomach stepping inside, she flinched at the harsh sound of shod hooves hitting wood, moving a few metres from the door of the barn to scavenge some mouthfuls of grass from the nearby pastures. After a few more thunderous bangs, the mare turned, two sets of rhythmic hooffalls approaching. She held back as Haskell introduced himself, only stepping forward after her name was spoken. "It's a pleasure to meet you." She said softly, dipping her head but remaining near Haskell's hips, as though hiding her rounded self. She and the mare were similar in age, and some tiny instinct at the back of Req's head told her to make the mare submit to her. But she bit it back, not wanting to start a fight with the mare when she was in this condition.

Breathing slowly and deliberately, Daae finally let herself relax, the sounds of nothing but the birds in the trees and the running of the small river nearby soothing her. Lowering her head, she began to graze, tail flicking softly against her speckled pelt. Sorelli picked up on her mother's calm self, growing more brave and exploring the paddock. The filly's dished nose raised lightly as she scented the air, long, spindly legs carrying her over to the fence where the other mother and foal had escaped. It was just low enough for her to bump her chest against, and so she did, stretching low over the pale white wood as she attempted to reach a flower nearby, determined to find out what scent it held. Suddenly, a loud whinny split the air, so near to them that it sent Elli skittering back to her mother. "Lay down. Quickly, Elli, lay down!" The mother hissed to her daughter, hoping that the longer grass would hide her daughter from whoever it was. Soon enough, a chestnut stallion came into view, thundering in the direction of the water, a bay mare close by. Watching them carefully, Daae inched forward, sure that they hadn't seen them yet, eager to watch and judge them before getting involved with them.

Squealing frantically, Rizzo lashed out with her hind legs, the metallic clang of her shoes hitting the trailer door behind her causing her to lurch forward as much as the small section of the trailer would allow. Neither her nor her companion, Zuko, were sure what had happened, but as far as the Marwari pair knew, there had been an accident, and their trailer had gone off-road... And their humans never came back for them. The mare's belly, already swimming with the activity of her unborn foal, bubbled with an anxiety as her dropping date grew ever closer, not wanting to give birth inside this dangerous trailer. Zuko, the tall, dark stallion in the neighbouring compartment of the trailer, had been injured in the crash, and was now unable to stand. He had been unable to drink, only ingesting small amounts of hay that she had brought him, and was growing weaker by the hour, and, no matter how often he told her to leave, she couldn't leave him. Pinning her curved ears to her head, the mare lashed out one last time, knowing fully well that kicking out with both hind legs held a danger, but she had to try. Both hooves collided with the metal, and, to the mare's amazement, something unlatched, the door tipping downwards and landing with a soft thud. "I did it?" She breathed, looking out of their exit with a filly-like wonder. Her ears pricked forward, touching at the tip as she turned to Zuko. "I did, Zuke, we can get out, get you some..." The word "Help" faded from her sentence as she looked at her companion. The stallion's barrelled chest was no longer rising, his nostrils still as they no longer took in breath. Freezing, her heart dropping to her hooves, she remained motionless for a second before moving beside him, dropping herself to her knees at his side. Resting her muzzle across his cooling neck, she attempted to pull him closer, wishing to give him a final farewell before she and their foal made their bid for freedom.

Shutting her eyes at the stallion's negative answer, her worst fears confirmed, Elphaba lowered her head in a quiet moment of respect for her old owners. Raising her head, looking back to the stallion before her, she pondered her next move. If the humans weren't back now, surely there was no reason to stay here... but on the other hand, it was safe here. Why leave when you had shelter above your head, fresh grass outside and a small stream flowing nearby? Flicking her scented tail anxiously, not knowing what to do, Elphie looked to the stallion. He seemed to be nice... perhaps travelling with him wouldn't be too bad? Watching him for a second, the mare's small, blonde ears pricked forward with a sudden realization of something. "I'm... I'm sorry, sir. We were never properly introduced." Offering him her first small smile, she dipped her head once in greeting. "My name is Elphaba, but most people find 'Elphie' to be much easier." Giving a small chuckle, she continued, "Despite our odd beginning, it's a pleasure to meet you." Stepping forward as though she were proving her point, she waited for the stallion's next words. Would he ask her to join him on his adventures? Or had he deemed her too odd, too anxious? Flicking her tail again, she looked away from the stallion, suddenly realizing that she had been staring intently at him.

Pale tail lashing against her pale hips, Evita paced up and down the aisle of the barn, tossing her head as she was forced to turn by the back wall. Her humans had left her within their private barn, the four-horse building housing only herself, and, even though they were gone, they were still messing up her life. The gate that crossed the front of the small barn, built to keep out the cattle that would have been moving through the farm, had been left shut, blocking her exit even after she escaped her stall. To make matters worse, the gap between the doorframe and the gate was too slim for her to jump. Snorting haughtily, turning once again to pace the short aisle, she spun suddenly, moving to the old, rusted gate. Standing as close as she could to the gate, she stretched her neck over the iron fixture, hoping to see something, anything!

Snorting softly as the stallion noticed her, tail flagging with excitement, Fantine's dark eyes eagerly watched him approach. He seemed hesitant, as though worried about unnerving her, but the youngster had bigger worries than strangers. Nickering sweetly in response to his own, the soft call high in pitch, she lowered her dark muzzle to his own, nostrils flared as she huffed out an introductory breath to him. Jolting her head back, an involuntary movement driven by sheer excitement, she took a step away from the fence, regarding the stallion. He was handsome, with a dark coat - not as dark as her own, but dark even still - and sharp, crisp white markings. Her muscles trembled with excitement, delighted to have found someone new - or, perhaps, to have someone find her. "Hello there! Boy, am I glad to see a new face! It's lovely to meet you, I'm Fantine." Bright eyes watching him, she pondered him - how would he sound? Would he be kind? Could he help her get out? Her body had been bred to stand in a show ring - her posty legs had very little bounce to them, and attempting to hop the fence would probably end badly for the poor young mare.

Thanatos huffed, looking at the upper corner of the stall as the mare spoke. The mare had a strange accent, not one that can be found anywhere in the United States. He wasn't terribly surprised by it though, while he had never heard of a mare with the accent as he just wasn't allowed to be near mares ever, he had heard stallions with similar accents and he had learned that many horses passed through his owner's stables for one reason or another. The accent kind of reminded him of something he'd hear in his home country, Turkmenistan. Kind of. Sadly, Thanatos had lost his accent a long time ago.
He looked back at the mare when she finished and slowly replied, "...Yes...?" He then muttered underneath his breath,
"Well, I mean, if I was a mare and I saw a stallion like myself strolling up to me I'd let him on immediately..."
Thanatos still didn't understand why the mare was so upset. If instinct told him to deal with her heat without having a conversation and a sit-down meal first, then surely her instinct should also be telling herself the same thing? Should her instinct also be telling her to get it over with as quick as possible, no need for introductions first? Why is she acting this way? The whole situation is extremely confusing and irritating to Thanatos. Are all mares going to be like this, or is she just an outlier? God, he hopes not all mares are like this, he'll lose his mind otherwise.
He dropped his head a little and sighed before lifting himself back up again to give the introduction the mare so badly wanted. "Alright, alright, if it makes you happy, I'll introduce myself first... I'm Hail To The King, but you'll call me Thanatos. I'm an ex racehorse from Turkmenistan, shipped to the United States of America when I was six years old and was turned into a show jumper and that's been my life since... Is that a satisfactory introduction for you? "
Flicking an ear back in uncertainty, Thanatos took a step closer to the mare. As time ticked by, Thanatos will now attempt to get closer to the mare, and when she's in a calmer state, perhaps try his luck again with her. The spot she kicked him still throbbed in pain but that wouldn't be stopping Thanatos from trying anything anytime soon.

Riot opened door after door as quick as he could. The sound of the lock being fiddled with was quickly followed by the sound of hooves, shod and unshod, banging on the concrete floor as the horse rushed out. So far, Riot had only come across geldings and stallions, from what he could tell. He was surprised by the number of horses that were still alive in the barn. He finished opening one door but then paused to look back as he heard the sound of approaching hoofbeats. From the other direction came running in a stunning black Arabian mare with white, rabicano flecking on her sides. Riot didn't recognize the mare. She was a beauty for sure. When she asked to help Riot simply bobbed his head for a 'yes'. He remained distracted, not snapping back to action until a horse in the next stall over started stomping and kicking at the door.
Riot opened more doors, the barn was pretty quiet now. He thinks the rabicano mare was still opening a few stalls, but walking down along his side it seemed there were no more horses in the barn that needed letting out. He halted as he neared one of the last stalls, catching glimpse of a live horse. Inside the stall was another absolutely gorgeous Arabian mare, this one gray in color. She didn't look as lively as an Arabian should, but no doubt that's just from being locked in a stall for a week with no one tending to her. Riot didn't recognize this mare either. He knows his owners are huge in the horse world with so much money it's not even funny. They'd often help sponsor or even host their own shows and when the latter happened, the stable is flooded with new horses. Riot figures it's most likely that the gray and rabicano mare are just temporary residents for the show or something. He nickered to the mare to catch her attention, if she hadn't already noticed him, before opening the stall door for her.
"Hello ma'am, are you alright? Do you need anything?" He nickered softly in question. He looked to the rabicano mare and whickered for the mare to come join him as soon as she's finished opening the remaining stall doors.

Cleo paced back and forth in her pasture anxiously, her tail wringing side to side. It had been days since any human had last visited her. Days. Maybe even a week. This is something Cleo has never experienced, not even a little bit. Every day, multiple times a day but never less than twice, a human, usually the family that owns her, would come out to work with her, groom her or just come say hi and bond a little. Always, rain or shine, yet for the past week absolutely no one has shown up. Cleo hasn't even seen anybody tend to the other horses. Everybody gets fed their grain twice a day unless a horse needed to be fed more due to medical issues. Twice a day they take the horses out of the pasture and bring them into the barn to feed them. They leave them in there for about half an hour, enough time for them to eat, and then they bring them back to the pasture. Yet no one has done that for a while. No one.
Cleo has been just about non-stop pacing for the past six days up and down along the fence line. She's already formed a dirt path from all the pacing. Her water ran out a day ago and she was terribly thirsty. Cleo glanced at her bucket. Maybe...? No, no she's already checked a dozen times today, it's all gone.
Cleo looked to the barn, nostrils flaring as a new scent drifted towards her. The smell of death. A few horses had been locked up in their stalls. No one has come out to take care of them, to feed them or water them, presumably they've all died by now. Cleo will be dead soon too if she doesn't get out, she knows she can't go much longer without some water. Swallowing a lump of fear Cleo pranced towards her pasture gate, eying the lock one more time. It was a simple enough lock to open, just flip up this little handle here, push on the gate and voilà! She's free! Except, the lever isn't on the gate itself, it's on the wooden post holding up the gate and there's a strand of electric fence preventing her from reaching over to undo it herself. Cleo's going to need someone else to open this gate for her from the outside if she wants to ever leave.
Cleo glanced around. She didn't see any free horses, she only saw some geldings who were locked up in their own pasture. However,
maybe there are some free horses nearby that may be able to hear her? It's worth a shot at least. Turning around Cleo started to pace all around her pasture, stopping to look around and she'd let out a long, strained whinny before continuing her pacing. Hopefully, someone will hear her and come to her rescue. She paused to look a the fence. Could she... jump it? It's a corral board fence, a little over four and a half feet high. No, Cleo could never jump it. Well, maybe she could, but she'd have a bigger chance of hitting the fence, flipping over, and breaking her face than she'd ever have at clearing it. It's too risky, Cleo will just need to keep crying out for help and hopefully, others will hear.

Fable cocked a brow and chuckled. The stallion was very direct and straight to the point, wasn't he? Maybe all stallions are like that though, Fable hasn't really had any experience with stallions outside of a few occasions in the breeding shed.
"Sure Cassius, why not? I'll join ya." She replied with a slight lilt to her mixed accent.
Her voice was a unique one, a mixture of mostly Kenyan with some British, the latter of which she picked up a bit from her short time spent in Great Britain as a filly. Cassius hasn't spoken much to her, but she could tell that while he had a pretty American accent, he didn't seem to speak quite as proper as most other horses she has met. Granted, she had only really ever met Arabians and Arabians as a breed tend to be more noble and proud than others and that tends to carry over into their speaking mannerisms.
Fable sided up next to the pinto stallion, lightly bumping her shoulder against his in a playful manner and asked, "So, where are we heading next, Cassius?"
She carefully examined the rolling green hills before them for any other horses. Cassius might prove himself to be fun, but it's always better to have more horses. Even a horse as sheltered as herself knows that much. Nothing seemed to move as far as she could see. It would appear that she and Cassius where all alone out at the moment. Her ear twitched to the left, picking up the distant sound of a horse whinny. The call was very faint, just barely audible, which told her the horse must be a couple miles away from them, yet at the moment it was their only lead. Well, her only lead, maybe Cassius knew something she didn't.
Fable glanced up at him questioningly, wondering if he had heard it too and if he would decide to go towards it. It was then when she looked at him up close did she realize the stallion had a few, small scars around the corners of his lips. Fable took the time to actually examine him from where she stood and she quickly discovered that the stallion had even more scars scattered across his body. She furrowed her brow in concern and looked away. She wondered where they came from, what happened to him, but she wouldn't ask. She knew such subjects could be touchy. He'll tell her if he wants to.

Maya walked calmly along the road, stopping to graze every once in a while. Maya knew her goal, to go find water, but she didn't really know where she was going. She seemed to be all alone in the world. For miles on end, she could not see a single horse, cow or any small critters moving around. She could not hear the barking of dogs or the squeals of children playing, nor could she even hear the chirping of birds. The world was silent and still, save for the grass and trees that gently swayed in the wind. This could easily, and understandably, unnerve a horse, Maya remained calm throughout her walk, granted though it was all a little bit worrying for her.
Maya had initially thought that her owner had died somehow when he went into the house to grab something and that that was why no one came out to take care of her, but looking around it seems more and more like something much bigger had happened. As she made her way, she'd occasionally come across a vehicle that had swerved off the road and crashed into a fence. She'd see bikes and scooters strewn about and house doors left open. It was all very puzzling.
Maya wandered for a couple hours, the mare really not knowing where to go, but after several turns and dead ends, she eventually stumbled upon a small pond located about thirty minutes south of town. Maya drank greedily from the pond and when she had her fill she carefully lowered herself onto the ground on the edge of the pond and rolled around a couple times. The mud and water beneath her felt so nice and cool against her skin. Maya stood up to have a nice layer of mud coating most of her body save for the hard to reach crevices and folds. Thanks to the mud, the flies that had pestered her all day were now starting to finally leave her alone, for the most part.
Maya decided sticking around the pond would be a good idea for the time being and spent the rest of her day grazing on the rich grass that grew within eye-sight of the pond. Late in the afternoon, after the mud on her coat had long dried, a gray stallion came into view, an Arabian stallion at that. The horse piqued her interest. While Maya had never herself interacted with a stallion, she had seen them at some of her competitions and had learned how to distinguish the difference from geldings by behavior alone. Typically, stallions are much more showy, arrogant and proud than geldings are and have more spunk. Now, sometimes you get a calm stallion that acts much like a gelding, but then you can just tell by their physical differences. This gray stallion had the arrogant walk and had more crest than other Arabian geldings Maya had met in her life. More importantly than what the horse's equipment was though was the fact that he was one of the first horses Maya had seen in a very, very long time and also one of the first larger animals she had seen today.
After a few seconds of silence, Maya whinnied to the horse, revealing her position if the stallion hadn't already seen her. She stood still and watched the stallion intently, curious to see how this would all play out.

Pepper was surprised to see Riff ask her where to go. Taking a second to think, it makes sense why he'd ask her, she just wasn't very used to it. No one ever asked Pepper where to go. Anyways, water. Well, there was a creek behind her home, but it's in the forest and Pepper doesn't like the woods. It's scary in the woods.
"Well, there's a large community pond near my home. You can kind of see it from my pasture, but fencing from other humans blocks the immediate path to it, so we'll have to take the long way around, which will be about a 20-minute walk if you think you can do that." She replied after a moment's pause to think. She turned her gaze to the pinto mare beside her and tacked on, "Unless you know of anything closer?"
Pepper glanced at the area the mare, Dystopia, gestured too. Pepper quickly decided that she didn't want to go that way. All the cars and trucks would be too scary for her, and they'd still be close to the barn with all the dead animals. Pepper usually tries to just go with the flow, but if the rest go over there you better believe Pepper will dig in her heels and protest. Maybe even bolt. She just doesn't do well with scary situations, and those trucks and cars are scary.
Pepper opened her mouth to speak but was cut off by Riff speaking. Pulling her ears back, Pepper glanced uncertainly once more are the building. A shiver ran down her spine once more at the thought of walking around all those metal beasts. What Riff said made sense, but Pepper wasn't dying of thirst and so she felt no need to force herself to go around scary objects to get water. And while Pepper is also scared of being left alone, she feels no attachment at all to these horses and would not follow them like she might have if they'd instead been her close friends.
Snorting, Pepper backed up a bit, which she felt was enough to tell the others how she felt about it all but remained silent for the time being, deciding to stare at both mare and stallion while inwardly she tried to muster up the courage to go along with them before she made any definitive decision.
