Anubis was pleased both mares had their attention on him, that neither seemed particularly concerned and were being cooperative. Of course, Anubis has yet to really do anything to upset the mares to make them uncooperative, it's just sometimes... Sometimes he encounters mares and he just has no clue what's wrong with them. They act as if they don't want a strong stallion like himself, they act like they prefer being alone and hate all other horses, which is just so weird to Anubis. Granted, he's only encountered these particular mares in these lands many call 'Sanctuary'. Most of the horses here seemed to have been human kept, and while Anubis has never been owned by or touched by a human, he has heard stories of their cruelty. How they keep horses locked up in tiny cages almost all day long. Makes the horses lose their language, makes 'em antisocial and Anubis figures many of the human horses out here must have become antisocial due to the humans and that's why they're so weird.
He touched his nose gently against each mare's, his touch gentler than usual, and stored the mare's scents in his mind so that he can always recognize them. He smiled as the spotted mare complimented him. Anubis thinks that's the first time he's been complimented on his name. "Why thank you madam, your names are quite nice as well."
He closes his eyes for a brief second, nostrils flaring once more. He was surrounded by the scent of mares in heat. It came from Breeze and Binhi, although their scents were fainter compared to the almost overpowering one of Maddy's. All the scents excited him greatly but Anubis had learned long ago not to let such excitement show all that much. If they had met him about a decade ago however he probably would have already tried jumping them. The heat scents of the mares could explain his much more gentle behavior as Anubis wants to cover them sooner rather than later.
"So, what are two equally lovely mares doing out here on their own?" He asked softly.
Thinking things over quickly, Anubis decided he could be a little more animated now that he does not think either of the mares would run or be too put off by such a thing. Anubis took a couple small steps closer to the mares and gently pressed his muzzle on first the spotted mare's shoulder, asking to groom her and then placed it against the pinto mare in an offer to groom her as well. While they explain their stories Anubis can do a bit of grooming, a bit of bonding, if they wish. While juggling two mares in heat at once is rather difficult, Anubis has been able to do it before and believes he can do it once again. The thing is, the pinto mare had hesitated earlier coming over, so Anubis did not want to drive her away, but he also did not want the spotted mare to think he preferred the other one, and he also wanted to take care of her heat while he can.

"Aurora's a pretty name, a name fit for a princess if you ask me." Riot complimated the mare as he walked. He searched along the riverbank, looking for hoofprints, droppings or even bodies. Suddenly however, he stopped walking. It was summer now. It had been over three months since the storm, since he was separated from everyone. Perhaps his little Rebel had been here once, but they took too long. There's no way she'll still be here. She'll have moved on. It was clear he wouldn't find them, perhaps it was time for Riot to move on as well. There was a small lump in his throat and a part of him wanted to refuse, wanted to keep searching, but deep down he knew it was true.
Wordlessly Riot turned and started walking away from the river to take the herds to better grazing grounds. They were in a little meadow now, the grass grew tall and green here. This would be good, he turned around to talk to Aurora again, get to know her a little however his gaze slipped past her and he spotted a gray Arabian not too far away. Was that... Aria? His ears flicked forward and he whinnied excitedly to the mare. He trotted to the front of the herd, tail flagged, happy to see another one of his old mares.
He wanted so badly to run up to her and greet her but he had to stay by his herd. However, the longer he looked the more he realized that that's not Aria. Mainly, the scent in the air that drifted from the mare and towards him with the help of the wind not smell anything like Aria. Riot couldn't help but feel a little crestfallen. After Echo and Revolution, Aria was his next favorite. To think he was going to reunite with her only to have that ripped from him, it was saddening. He had already called out to the mare though and now that it was summer Riot felt the strong urge to build his herd up once more to its former glory, might as well wait and see how the mare would react.

Ameena didn't care about Marielle's little tantrum, that the mare was upset that Ameena told her off. Don't look at her child like that.
Summer had arrived and the flies were out in full force. Her and Apollo's tails lashed side to side in desperate attempts to rid themselves of the flies. For every fly they shook off it seems like three replaced it. This was getting crazy, it was time for some mud. Ameena nickered to Mark, telling him to make sure everyone was following before leading them away to the large lake Ameena has visited many times before. It was a popular spot for horses but more importantly, it had lots of mud, which is what Ameena wanted. She looked around the lake, there were several herds around but none seemed interested in them, yet. Ameena approached the edge of the lake, taking a quick swig before backing up and carefully lowering herself to the ground. She looked at her colt, making sure he was close and not being stolen.
She laid her head down, rubbing it against the mud before doing a complete roll, doing the same rubbing action with the other side of her head. She laid there for a few seconds before rolling back and forth several times, just to really make sure she was covered in mud. She sat up, looking at her colt once more and the horses around her before standing up, working her tail a little before moving towards her colt to protect him once more.

Apollo followed after his mother like the obedient little thing he is. As they moved, stretching their legs and working their muscles Apollo felt a sudden urge to play. He playfully mounted his mother for a brief second before sliding off her side. He lowered his head as he walked, chin brushing against the grass. He kicked up his heels before transitioning into a canter and running a few circles around his mother.
He calmed down as they approached the lake. He watched intently as his mother rolled around in the mud. He moved several yards away to do the same thing, rubbing his body against the ground, rolling this way and that, long skinny legs flailing around in the air.
When he was done he was entirely covered in mud save for the insides of his legs and chest. Sneezing lightly he turned around and drank from the water. While he wanted to play in it, he knew if he did he would wash away all the mud he worked so hard to get on himself, so he just stayed at the edge, playing with the water slightly by sploshing it around with his muzzle.

Before Fable could watch the fight unfold she felt a stabbing pain in her abdomen. She quickly backed up and retreated further into the forest, instinct taking her far from the other horses to prepare for the birth of her filly. She finally stopped at a small little clearing in the forest and after checking to make sure there were no predators around or prying eyes Fable lied down on the ground and waited.
-Fade-
Ten minutes later and at her feet was a chestnut foal. Fable groaned slightly, lifting her head up to look at her filly before quickly dropping it back down to the ground. The birthing process had gone well, it was pretty easy compared to her past experiences, she was just a bit tired. Her foal started squirming around at her feet and Fable finally stirred. She stood up, turned around and cleaned her foal off. She learned the foal was a filly and Fable exhaled loudly, not realizing she had been holding in her breath. It's such a good thing it was born a filly, if it was a colt, Fable would have had a hard time finding a new stallion that wouldn't kill it on sight.
They spent another twenty minutes or so in the clearing as the filly got her legs and learned how to stand. She picked things up pretty quick and as soon as she had learned to walk and had nursed a little Fable was moving back to where she had last saw the tall dark stallion from earlier. Fable was extremely relieved the birthing process had gone well. Her filly was slim but very, very leggy, in fact, she's probably the tallest Fable has ever seen a newborn filly be. She was perhaps a little over 11 hands already.
Out of the forest and she found the stallion where she had last seen him earlier. She did not know how the fight went, but she saw two mares with him when he had none and the rival was gone, so she presumed that he had won. After watching him interact with his two new mares silently she eventually raised her head and whinnied to him, announcing her presence to all that were near.

Myth's eyes adjusted to the light as her mother groomed her wet body. After several minutes she shook her head slightly,
feeling bored and the urge to stand she rose up on long, shaky legs. She failed numerous times but after perhaps her seventh time managed to stand and stay standing. Myth flicked her tail back and forth as she unsteadily turned around to face her mother's flank. She leaned up against her for support before slipping further back and reach underneath her to nurse. Myth was a tall newborn and her mother short so it was already a bit harder to nurse for her than it probably is for most newborn foals.
Soon her mother started walking and Myth followed, sticking to her shoulder and occasionally pressing against her for support when she'd lose her balance. They left the relatively dark and shady forest and entered the light. Myth was blinded and closed her eyes shut tight quickly. After a few seconds she tried to open them very slowly, only managing to hold a very small squint.

Arya spent perhaps half an hour whinnying, her cries echoed out across the land but went largely unanswered. Aya was about to give up hope she'd find anyone here, bad thoughts entering her mind such as the possibility that all the other horses had died or were swept far, far away from her in the storm. Finally, another whinny that was not her own pierced the air, seemingly responding to her call. Arya spun around and whinnied back, she was here! She stared at the horizon and soon a golden colored stallion came up over the hill with a similarly colored yearling and buckskin mare in tow. She could scarcely believe it. It was Thowra with Zeus! She did not recognize the mare, Thowra must have picked her up recently.
Arya nickered for her foal to follow before taking off towards Thowra. She met him halfway, bouncing to a stop before nuzzling her old stallion, nickering to him softly in greeting.
"Oh gosh, you don't even know how relieved I am to see you! I was beginning to worry all horses had been killed in the storm..."

Skiron stood underneath the oak tree somewhat lazily, ears turned out to the side and one hoof cocked. After spending so much time running after his mother looking for everybody, he was ready for a little rest while his mother continued calling out.
To his surprise, someone responded after a little while. Skiron turned around as his mother did, looking at the horses in the distance. Two were golden in color like himself and the other was a buckskin. His mother bolted after them, asking for him to follow and Skiron somewhat reluctantly picked up a gallop and trailed behind her. His mother did not hesitate to make physical contact and show signs of affection with the golden stallion. One of Skiron's ears flicked back in confusion. Who was this? Was he supposed to know this horse? Skiron stood in the back silently, choosing to wait to be introduced to everyone before just barging in and asking questions.

Forty five minutes went by before Pepper finally stirred. She sat up with a low groan, rubbing her eyes on her forelegs to try and clear up her vision. She looked up to see her... foals? She had delivered twins, just like Ohanzee which would probably explain why everything hurt so bad. She sighed inwardly. While she'll love them the same, after taking care of Menhit and Romeo last year, Pepper had been hoping she'd only have to deal with one foal this year. Pepper rose up onto her hooves with another groan, rubbing her eyes once more she looked up just in time to see the buckskin ram his palomino sibling, sending the small little thing onto her side. Pepper walked up behind her foal, head lowered and ears pinned threateningly. At first it seemed taken back, as if her presence was a shock but the foal quickly snapped out of it and moved over to her flank to nurse and it's sibling soon followed.
As they nursed Pepper got to know them a little, the buckskin was a colt that she named Alkun and the palomino was a filly she named Empress. When they were done nursing Pepper spent some time grooming them to bond and check them over, make sure they were all right. She noticed quite a few white hairs by Empress' eyes. Pepper being a gray herself knew quite a bit about graying. The white hairs by her daughter's eyes are the first sign that she'll gray out and turn white one day like herself. Pepper was curious to see how she'd gray out, what colors will she go through, how fast will it take for her to gray as she had never seen a palomino gray.
Soon after that they returned to the herd, Pepper had been gone for a little over two and a half hours. Pepper walked slower than normal, her body still ached. She looked up, whinnying to Riff but she fell silent when she saw he was talking to another mare. Riff wouldn't care right now. Pepper stopped somewhat far away from the herd. Everything hurt. Pepper's head hung low, her eyes partially closed. She wanted to sleep but she couldn't, not out here in the open with a new, unfamiliar mare around.

After a quick five minute break the twins resumed their struggles to stand Fall after fall after fall, each feeling more and more discouraged every time. They were about to give up entirely when something finally clicked and they managed to stand properly Empress held her head and tail up high in pride but frowned when she saw her brother standing next to her as well. Empress pinned her ears and headbutted her brother in the shoulder hard as she could, knocking him off his feet and sending him back down to the ground. Empress smirked, "Sucks to suck, loser." Empress stated before walking off on unsteady legs.
Alkun shook his head and glared at his sister but he did not immediately retaliate, instead choosing to just stand up and leave her alone for a while. As she tried out her legs Alkun did the same, desperately trying to learn how to walk gracefully before his sister did. The more he walked the stronger and more confident he felt. He turned around to stare at his sister who was on the other side of the clearing. Payback time. Alkun pawed the ground before running towards her, ramming his head into her shoulder, shoving her to the ground. Alkun smirked and spoke the same words she had said earlier to him, "Sucks to suck, loser." Alkun turned around to see his mother was off the ground, her ears pinned, dished head shaking slightly in disapproval.
Alkun perked up, ignoring her disapproving gaze and moved to her flank to nurse. Empress quickly scrambled back up and trotted towards her mother to nurse as well.
When they were done their mother took them back to the herd. Some foals hide behind their mother as they go back, but not these two. They walked in front of their mothers, working on their gates and practicing their best stances. When the herd entered their sights, specifically when they saw the two other young foals, the siblings looked at eachother and both took on a mischievous grin,
both thinking of the same thing.

Seeing no one would acknowledge her and that the adults were busy with the random foal, Menhit turned away from the group and started grazing somewhat uneasily. Now that they were all focused on the foal, it was her turn to keep watch. Thing is, she only has one eye. She acknowledged the lead's leave with a little head raise. She wasn't sure where the mare was going but since no one else was freaking out of following Menhit supposed everything was alright and returned to her grazing.
Riff suddenly moved off and called out to seemingly no one again and Menhit spun around to see what the hub hub was about. She looked at her father and followed her gaze to a bay Arabian standing at the river. Menhit's light golden ears flicked forward in interest. Are they finally going to have a new herd member?
Menhit's ear flicked back hearing hoofbeats and she spun around to see the lead returning with significantly smaller stomach and two small bodies beside her. Her ears flicked forward once more as things clicked. Oh right, she was pregnant! And these must be her foals! Menhit smiled slightly. She had siblings again! She trotted forward, her growing but still short tail flagged straight up.
She was not aware that she should ask a mother permission to go near her foals so Menhit simply just ran up. She lowered her head to match the level of the foals and nickered a hello to the two.
