Ziva felt a patch of warmth against her coat and lifted her head, she saw a stallion who's head was against her side, she moved towards the warmth she hoped that it wouldn't go away. She then glanced around the stallion's cheek and saw two mares.

Arya | Mare | Appaloosa x QH | 5.8 Years | Stallion: Thowra | Heat Stage: Anestrus |
Tags: Artemis, Thowra

The blizzard had hit them now and the mare found if she didn't walk close enough to her herd they'd quickly fade from sight. Right now Arya was walking a little to the left and behind Thowra and Artemis. She paused when Thowra paused, looking to her left she realized there was a barn. She had almost missed it. Arya perked up, nodding her head a little. She wanted to go in there. It would be so much nicer in there. The smell of other horses soon reached her nose. A stallion with quite a few mares. Perhaps it would be best if they don't go in there. Arya knows stallions don't often get along.
Thowra moved on and Arya went with him. They later reached the edge of a forest, Thowra stood there waiting. Snow coated Arya's body and she wanted shelter now, the mare walked a couple of meters pass Thowra. She then lowered her head and grazed on whatever she could find underneath the snow.

Willow | Mare | Appaloosa | 11 Years | Stallion: Mark | Pregnant |
Tags: Mark

Mark did not seem to be injured from her attacks. Willow thinks that's a good thing. It was good Mark wasn't hurt right, but if he had been a predator that means she wouldn't have injured it.
Willow was no longer hyped on adrenaline and she felt fatigued once again. She didn't respond to the stallion's words verbally. The mare simply moved to his other side and carefully lowered her body to the ground, her front leg folded underneath her. She laid next to Mark for a while, resting her head against his neck before lying down on her side to sleep.

Fable | Mare | Arabian | 10 Years | Stallion: Jericho | Lead Mare | Pregnant |
Tags: Tessa

Fable was caught off guard as the mare quickly ran up to her side and began pushing her. Fable submitted to her pressure a little, stumbling towards the outer edge of the herd. The mare snorted after a couple yards and began fighting again. She stopped moving, splaying her legs slightly she resisted the mare, pushing back against her. Fable watched the mare move away, trying to calm herself down she stared at her for a while, thinking and planning.
This mare probably thinks she'll win due to her age. Age matters very little to Fable. Her mother was lead in a herd of ten with a few other, dominating mares who were nearly twice her age at the time. Age doesn't matter past a certain point.
Fable pinned her ears, squealing she lunged at the new mare. Spinning around she kicked at the mare with her hind hooves before darting forward, returning to the center of the herd she trotted around in a circle, keeping her eye on the mare.
Living out here has brought out a much more stubborn and aggressive side in Fable. She wasn't likely to back down any time soon.

Pepper | Mare | Arabian | 6 Years | Stallion: Riff | Pregnant |
Tags: Riff, Ohanzee

Pepper clung to Riff as he moved, not letting an inch of space be between them. The cold deeply bothered Pepper, her winter coat not good enough for conditions like this, and she didn't want to lose any of the warmth the mare had gained being near her stallion. The mare had a thin layer of snow all the way from her poll to her tail. Pepper lowered her head to the ground, digging up the snow with her hoof. Underneath the snow was mostly only mud, but there were a few blades of grass that Pepper happily devoured.
Besides Riff and his two mares, Pepper hadn't run into any other horses all year long. Pepper was lucky she had run into them, otherwise she might have been left all alone, unable to find anybody else. She would have certainly died out here by now without them.

Riot | Stallion | Arabian | 15 Years | Mares: Harley, Revolution, Alaska, Hope, Aria, Pompeii, Echo, Nihna, | Coverings: 5 |
Tags: Pompeii, Thowra's herd (mentions)

Riot noticed the young buckskin mare approach. He had promised to interact with her after Harley, now was a good as a time to that. Riot turned around to walk towards her when he caught the scent of a rival stallion. Thowra. Was he going to come into this barn? Try and fight him. Riot perked up, flexing his muscles and pinning his ears slightly he trotted towards the entrance of the barn. He looked to his right, no one, but to his left was the fading silhouettes of three horses.
Thowra had left as quickly as he arrived but still Riot thought to mark his presence with a stud pile. A warning for Thowra if he came back, and for any future stallions that may pass by.
Riot inspected his pile before walking off to Pompeii. Riot nickered to the mare, pressing his nose against her shoulder he asked if he could groom her.

Hera | Mare | Friesian | 2 Years | Stallion: Silence | Pregnant |
Tags: Silence

Hera noticed Silence was shifting around, seemingly reluctant to move closer to her. She didn't quite understand why. Hera stared at Silence for a while, trying to read him. Hera mentally shrugged and turned away from Silence. There were some plants growing inside the hut through the old wooden floor boards. Hera lowered her head to nibble on the vegetation, leaving some for Silence to eat if he pleased. The mare's abdomen had inflated slightly over winter, the foal inside her taking up more and more room. Hera would need to start eating for two.

Chase
They Call Me Confidence Mustang 9 years Lead Mare - Cerberus's herd Heat Stage 4
Tags; Nightingale, Ivy, Salem, Inez, Cerberus, Salem, Rain

Chase walked up in front, next to Cerberus. She showed clear dominance that way. The ebony mare behind her would probably pick a fight. Chase shook her head with a short sigh. If Ivy thought she would ever give up her position, she didn't know the first thing about Chase. Chase didn't give up, through fatigue, winter, fights, pain, and drought, until she got her rightful dominance. But now she had mostly achieved it. The red roan mustang decided to ignore Ivy's words. A lead mare didn't pick stupid fights like that. Now, though, snow was flurrying down. "Cerberus, we need to move the herd quickly. We need to find shelter." Chase also tended the filly by her side, licking Rain's ears. The mare picked up her pace, nickering loudly for the herd to move towards safety.

Griffin
On Noble Wings American Saddlebred 14 years Mares - Dawn, Niah 1 Cover
Tags; Dawn, Niah, Petrova, Pilgrim

The American Saddlebred nodded to his black mare. Griffin would fall asleep soon, but he'd sleep lightly and wake up if anything was the matter. As Niah forgot her worries and was playing like a filly, Griffin was pleased. Finally Niah was happy. Eventually the mare became more civilized, and Griffin walked over. He gently tugged her mane, pulling out knots in a friendly way. Then Griffin cocked a hoof and relaxed, not quite ready to fall asleep. In a little while he'd be more tired and would fall asleep. Hoof steps turned his attention. "One moment, please. I will invite them in." Griffin peeked his head out. There was a mare with her colt. Griffin nickered. "Please, come in. I don't want you or your colt getting frozen out her." He smiled warmly and opened the door fully with his hoof.

Hope
Royal Hope Arabian 12 years Riot's herd Covered (2 seasons)
Tags; Riot, Echo, Revolution, Nihna, Alaska, Aria

She felt herself slowly getting more and more tired. The comforting warmth of the barn, the other horses around her, and the comfy hay under her hooves made her sleepy. Now that she had found a herd and would have a foal soon, she was able to relax. Winds blew against the barn, but the old barn held faithfully. Few drafts blew in, and Hope noticed that her coat seemed longer than usual. She knew that it had been growing a little lately for winter, but now it was her full winter coat. Which wasn't very long, but it was longer than her summer coat. Then Hope drifted off to sleep.

Aden
Morning Glory Friesian 15 years Mares - Angel, Dahlia 2 Covers
Tags; Angel, Dahlia

The stallion huddled even closer to Angel. "I'm glad we found shelter. We can look for more mares after this blizzard is over with. I'm sure that some mares will join because of this awful weather." Aden snorted. Even though he was glad his mares were safe, a part of him was annoyed that he couldn't find more mares. Aden reached his head out and peered around for mares. None. He sighed.

Juliette
Running With Fire Knabstrupper 14 years Lead Mare - Basilio's herd Pregnant (1 season)
Tags; Basilio, Lily, Ziva

The Knabstrupper's attention was caught by the little foal. Juliette immediately walked over. Quietly, she inspected the foal. "Doesn't look hurt.. Just cold." Juliette shrugged. Foals weren't really her thing. Unless they were her foals, though. Juliette looked at the Gypsy Vanner mare next to her, telling the mare that she didn't want to take care of the foal.

Ella
Heaven Is All Around Gypsy Vanner 9 years Mark's Herd Heat Stage 3
Tags; Mark, Marielle, Willow, Allure, Nova, Luna, Rizzo, Kenickie, Lady, Pandora, Pompeii, Harley

Ella snorted and pawed the ground. She didn't mind less attention, but was getting rid of her energy. With a flouncing stride, the Gypsy Vanner bucked. Her hooves rose high into the sky. Night was beginning to creep in. Ella didn't like night much. She shivered and huddled close to Marielle, Luna, Nova, and Allure. Her thick fur would warm them, too. "Hello." Ella said happily to a pretty Kathiawari next to her. The mare looked a few years older than herself, but Ella felt fine introducing herself.

    Ivy
-Mare • -10 years • -With foal, Salem, stage 0 heat • -Lead mare (Cerberus) • -tags; Herd
    __________________________________________________

Ivy snorted. "Once again, you've proven you're not fit to be lead mare. You've been so focused on me you didn't even realize I'd already found shelter. How can you expect a herd to follow you when you don't even pay attention to your surroundings? You could lead us right into a ditch for all you know!" Ivy snorted and pawed at the snow angrily. She breathed through her nostrils angrily and calmed herself down. She wasn't like Chase and wouldn't be stupid enough to fight in winter. Ivy watched as Chase ran off expecting everyone to follow. Nobody probably would, they already had shelter. Ivy trotted forwards into the rocky overhang which would protect them from snow and wind. It was large enough for twenty or so horses, and was a lot warmer, as it was in the treeline. She snorted at Chase, and muttered under her breath, "Dumb selfish mare." She moved over to Cerberus and groomed his mane gently, looking down at Salem by her feet. She stopped for a moment, and pushed her colt closer to her, seeing that he was shivering a bit. Ivy kept an eye on Chase, wondering whether she'd come back to the herd or keep running expecting others to follow her when they already had shelter. The ebony black mare snorted at the thought. "You won't let her lead right?" She asked, looking towards Cerberus. The mare had proven over and over again she had no experience, simply with her actions. Ivy continued grooming Cerberus contentedly, pulling the snow from his coat.

    Salem
-Colt • -9 months old •- no mares, too young • -tags; Herd
    __________________________________________________
Salem trotted towards Cerberus, and stood near the herd boredly. There was so much to explore out there. Well, not really. Salem sighed and pawed at the snow, but only found mud and brown grass underneath it. He shivered a bit, but he soon received warmth from his mother's body standing next to him. He looked out at Chase, then at Rain. Hmm? Salem was a bit confused but shrugged it off, and stuck his muzzle in the snow again, before sneezing. He wanted to play now. Salem wanted to fight more importantly, like he'd seen stallions do. The pinto colt went over and nipped Rain playfully before rearing and pawing at the ground. Little did he know fillies weren't supposed to play fight. Salem snorted before moving closer to his mother again at her pushing. He still wanted to fight however, and was close enough to.

    Jericho-stallion • -14 years old • -herd stallion- • tags; herd(Candy,Fable,Kaia,Skye,Eden,Amara,Lotus,Alouette, Marion Tessa)
    ________________________________________________

Jericho moved closer to his herd, and walked up to Candy. He gently rested his muzzle on her shoulder, as to not startle her. He gently groomed the snow from her coat. "I'm sorry I had to run off." Jericho pushed his muzzle into her coat lovingly. He loved all of his older mares truly. He'd gotten to know them all so well now, and they felt like family to him. Jericho nibbled at he base of Candy's mane and pulled icy knots from her mane. He continued on to groom her shoulders, pushing away older hairs that no longer belonged there. Jericho was facing to where she could groom him as well if she pleased. The bay stallion was so large he didn't notice the cold much. He was rather hungry though. Jericho pawed at the ground, but only found mud and ice underneath. He sighed, continuing to groom Candy. Jericho wished he had something, anything really to eat. The large Clydesdale stallion lowered his head from grooming Candy towards the ground. He scooted his head through the snow untill he found some browned grass he could eat. The snow was still falling, but the snow was lighter here, having been blocked out by trees. Luckily, that made it a tad bit easier to find food. Jericho lifted his head again and continued grooming Candy.

    Dove
    - mare • - 4 years old • - no foals, stage 4 heat • - Washington • -tags; Amadeus and Herd,Flannery
    _____________________________________________________

Dove called out to the stallion of the small herd and looked back at Flannery. It was her choice whether to join, but Dove would join, at least for the meantime. She had no idea where Washington was and wasn't about to risk her unborn foal dying in this cold weather- oof. Dove's maw opened slowly and she gasped as pain ran through her abdomen. Dove had only birthed one foal before, but she knew what was happening. Dove walked slowly away, and laid down in a patch of slightly melted snow under some trees. She sighed and closed her eyes. It'll be alright. The foal will survive, and so will you. She repeated this in her mind as pain ran through her abdomen once more. -fade- Dove snorted before she sighed, and breathed air through her nostrils. She'd done it. Dove laid down for a moment, untill she heard a squealing sound behind her. Her foal, Washington's foal! Dove got up and started to groom him carefully and happily. Her first foal had been a miscarriage, and joy filled her heart at the sight of the little thing. He had skull like markings on his face. That reminded her of the horse named Muerto at her old barn. He had skeletal markings as well. Perhaps that was some sort of human word for bones. Dove whispered quietly, "Muerto. That's your name." She groomed the little colt, sitting with her legs folded now. He was so adorable and perfect. Dove sighed happily, and looked back towards Flannery.

    Echo
-mare-•-4 years old -•-no foals, stage 0 heat-•-Riot-•-tags: Herd, Harley Quinn
    _____________________________________________________

Echo snorted and lifted her head tiredly. Her eyes darted around the barn. Riot had managed to gather two more mares while she was asleep. Echo rose to her feet slowly and sighed, the blue horse blanket falling off of her back. Oh well. Echo would just get another one later. She'd seen how Riot had done it anyways. Echo sighed and leaned her head down to grab some of the hay the humans had left behind. It tasted just as good as it always had. Echo swished her tail and trotted towards one of the new mares. (Harley Quinn) Echo flicked an ear. "I don't believe we met. I'm Echo." She backed up a bit, giving the mare a wide berth. Echo didn't want to seem threatening. She truly wasn't dominant, as much as she wished to be. The grey arab mare looked at the newcomer observantly. Echo perked her ears happily and lowered her head to eat some more hay. It truly was nicer here than in the cold if the wild. Echo sighed. She was still a bit sleepy, but she'd be fine. Echo looked out the barn door to see flurries of snow falling to the ground. It must be quite slippery out there with all of the ice. Echo sighed and brushed the thought away. That didn't matter as they were in here now. Echo turned her attention back to the new mare, watching her carefully. She didn't want to come off as aggressive, but not as the least dominant mare here. The grey arabian mare sighed. She was pregnant anyways so it wasn't worth messing with. Echo pricked her ears and listened to the other conversations throughout the barn. Although she didn't like to speak much, Echo liked to listen. She was sort of a gossip mare in a way. Echo continued munching on hay, raising her head with a clump hanging out of her mouth. She chewed slowly. There was so much here, why eat quickly? It would last the rest of winter surely. What would they do next winter though? There wouldn't be any fresh hay in any barns. Echo sighed. She was becoming soft again. She needed to toughen up. Echo loved the humans though. They kept her warm and safe and well fed.

    Wolf
    -•-stallion-•-15 years old-•-mares;Secret-•-tags;Grace,Secret,Mizu
    ___________________________________________________________

Wolf followed after Secret. It was extremely cold out and he wanted to get away from the bachelor. He snaked his mares and gently nudged them forwards towards Secret. He realized he hadn't covered Mizu yet, which was probably the cause for her interest in the bachelor. He'd do that later then. Wolf sighed and continued taking up the back, not even looking back. The snow was thick and annoying, and they absolutely needed shelter.

    Marielle
    -•-Mare-•-13-•-stage 0 heat-•-Mark-•-tags;Herd
    ___________________________________________________________

Marielle looked up, hearing her name being called. She saw that Mark was claiming yet another mare. Hmph. It took all of the attention away from her! Marielle trotted over, a tad bit annoyed. Snow was falling thickly, and her mane was frozen into clumps. Icicles had formed on her coat. She was freezing and annoyed and ugh! Marielle snorted. "Hello. I'm Marielle," she said bluntly. She looked over at Mark, as if asking him if she was done now. Marielle snorted and swished her tail before trotting a bit away. There was no point in standing here. The trees were a bit warmed at least. The roan mare sighed angrily and pinned her ears. It was too cold here, and the snow was falling much too heavily for them to go to another shelter, much less even find one. Marielle was hungry and cold, the worst combination ever.

    Niah
    -mare-•-3-•-heat stage 1-•-Griffin-•-tags;herd,Petrova,Pilgrim
    ___________________________________________________________

Niah let him groom her contentedly. She had relaxed quite a bit and was now more friendly. The appaloosa mare looked up at Dawn with an apologetic look in her eyes. Niah truly hoped the black mare would forgive her for being so grumpy. Niah flicked an ear. She had had a reason to be grumpy however, so surely the mare couldn't stay mad for long! Niah got up and followed Griffin, seeing a mare and her colt. Niah watched Griffin. She didn't be have much true herd experience and was interested in the newcomer and how Griffin would handle her. Niah suddenly lost interest and trotted towards Dawn with a swish of her tail. She pushed her muzzle into the ebony mare's shoulder apologetically. "I'm sorry for being so rude earlier. I was stressed and angry and took it out on you two." She gently groomed the mare's mane, hoping for forgiveness. She thought she might stick by Dawn for a while, and learn a bit from her. Niah agreed with herself on the thought. It was a good idea anyways, she had a lot to learn. The appaloosa mare gently nibbled at Dawn's back, grooming her shedded hairs off of her back. She cocked a hoof, continuing to groom Dawn relaxedly. Niah looked out at the mare and her colt while she did so, still remotely interested. Niah sighed sadly and swished her tail. She remembered when she was younger, like the colt. It seemed everything had been better then. Her mother had actually cared about her, she'd even had the care of humans. Fresh food and water, and warmth during he harsh winters. Niah then returned her focus to Dawn once more and continued the grooming.

    Liannah
    Mare-13-late heat-Endeavor- tags; Endeavor,Athena
    ______________________________________________________
Liannah knew they probably wouldn't be interested in the cave. The mostly white mare trotted under the overhang with Athena. Liannah knew the mare seemed to hate her. However, Liannah wanted to make peace. Liannah settled down next to the mare. She gently groomed the mare's mane, pulling knots out of it. "I hope your leg gets better soon. It must be rough during winter. I hope this shelter's good enough for you. I didn't want to make you walk too far." She groomed Athena somewhat comfortingly, and sighed happily. Although it was cold, Liannah was happy. She had a herd. She was lead, even if it wasn't for long. Liannah could find a new herd in the spring anyways. She would do anything to become lead. Liannah didn't want to just leave the herd, if they protected her throughout the winter. However, her bossiness prevented her from not desperately wanting a lead position. Liannah continued grooming Athena and looked up at Endeavour, hoping she'd found a good shelter.

Sound of Music

I pin my ears flat against my head as Alex approaches us, again. The poor stallion doesn't get it. I back away a few steps and push Night with me. I'm sorry, but I'm not the lead mare type. I don't mind anyone joining the herd. You may do whatever you want. The more, the merrier. Besides, we'll have a better chance to survive the winter with more horses. I nicker to him in an apologetic tone. I don't want to come off as rude, but I am a protective mother, and he is much to close to my foal. I turn back to Night and groom her as she speaks.

Night is Calling

I sigh. No, no. It's fine. I over reacted. You didn't do anything wrong. I nicker. I like how he does not treat me like a foal. He gives me the same respect he gives my mother, and it makes me feel good. Now I feel guilty for being so harsh with him.

The Catcher in the Rye

I feel happy now that I have found a mare for Comanche. Hopefully she is a dominant mare, so I won't have to keep being lead. What if she is cruel? I don't want to be lead, but I don't want a mean mare pushing me around all the time. I love other horses and would hate not getting along with her. No, no. I shouldn't think like that. I should expect the best from this mare, not automatically assume she is rude. I perk my ears in her direction and nicker to her. I smile at Comanche when he looks at me, and turn my eyes back to the new mare. She seems very relaxed.

Clashing of Thunder

I inch closer to Merlot and the other two. The cold air nips at my back. I press myself against my stallion, desperately seeking warmth. We should find shelter. Looks like the weather is getting bad. I nicker, a shiver running down my spine.

I squeal once again, and finally see Dove. I canter toward her, fall to the floor beside her, and wrap my body around her for warmth. I scrape desperately at the floor, searching for food. I only pull up brown. It will have to do. I take a mouthful and place it close to her.

Hush Little Baby

Discomfort is the word that best describes my current state. I despise this whole 'no humans thing'. I flick my ears anxiously, searching for even the slightest sign of danger. A twig snaps behind me, and I nearly jump out of my skin, splaying my legs and nickering nervously. I turn to look at the place where the noise came from, trembling in fear. I catch a glimpse of the rat, feeling a very small sense of relief. Not enough though. Dread still lingers, and a wave of depression crashes over my thoughts, drowning them. I miss my home, my family, and my friends. I miss my humans. The nice ones, at least.

I give Hera a sideways glance, just to look at her. How did I end up with a mare like her? She is kind, beautiful, and generous. Other horses never really like me all that much, and I have no idea why she does. Does she? I dunno. Better not worry about it though. I squeeze next to her and nibble on the vegetation, trying not to eat too much. I know Hera needs more than I do. I lift my head, my ears fully alert for any signs of danger. I hear nothing and lean over to Hera. I nibble her mane gently, trying to tease out all of the knots. Some of the locks have frozen together, and I try my best to undo them. Then I rest my muzzle gently on her back and sigh contently.

My can't help but feel a wave of relief crash over me as I see Diablo's dark figure returning to our shelter. Then he opens his mouth... Let it slip? Let what slip? I nicker, but he has already walked away. I shoot Lyric and Elena a confused look, wondering what they possibly could have said to get the stallion come back. I slowly rise to my feet. I laugh at Elena's comment, then trot after them. Odd that Diablo is leading the group. He still doesn't understand his role as stallion. I open my mouth to speak, but decide against it. I'm already in hot water, for whatever reason he thinks. When he stops, I slow down my pace to a halt as well, looking the two trees up and down. It is nice, but we could definitely find better. This will have to do for now. I give him a sideways glance. I would apologize, but I'm not really sure what to apologize for. I nicker. I mean, I get that I was being stubborn and said some rude things, but only because he started it. Since the first moment I met him, I've been nothing but good. I tried taking care of Lyric when she was feeling ill, I tried to convince her to not run the first time, and when she said he didn't care, I tried to convince her he did. Sure, I may have been a little agitated with him when he didn't understand my jokes, but I got over it. Then when Elena came and got frustrated at him for not being open, I defended him. Then when they tried to go out in the snow but he pushed them back, and Lyric mumbled what I'd assume to insults and Elena was irritated as well, I defended him. When I heard the two talking about running away again, I told him. Then all of a sudden when we were about to work things out, Diablo jumped in the way. He, for absolutely no reason, called me annoying and basically implied I was stuck up. All I did was tell him off for that. The entire time I've known him Lyric has been insulting him left and right, and he dealt with it. But for some reason when I say one poor thing about him, he runs away. I really don't understand. And now, all of a sudden, he's back. This stallion is so confusing. First, I thought he liked me. Then, I thought he hated me. Now I'm really not sure. I really want to know what they said to get him to come back. It obviously wasn't for me, though. It makes me so mad that he even considered leaving both Lyric, Elena, and myself to die. Especially since he covered two of us, so technically is leaving two unborn foals to die as well. I take a deep breath. Let it go, Jolene. Let it go. I'll figure him out. One of theses days, I'll understand.

ϟGuardian of Hell's Gatesϟ

Cerberus~tagged;herd~
ϟ~coverings;3~stallion~age;15ϟ

I nicker to Nightingale to come join the huddle and frown as Chase trots away. This fight for lead mare could become an issue. I place my muzzle on Savannah's head calmly and rest it there. I try to wrap around both Savanah and Inez as much as I can. I'm sorry, love. I'm a stallion. I don't decide lead mare. I reply to Ivy. It's true. Both mare's have a fair point about moving or staying. We need to keep moving our bodies to not freeze, but if we leave the shelter Ivy has found, we might never find another. I shift uneasily, not sure what to do. Both options seem like good ones, and I can't turn to my lead and ask her, because as of right now, I don't know who is lead. The one thing Chase is wrong about though, is this whole fighting thing. From my experience, lead mares definitely do snake mares that challenge them or bother them out of the herd. Ivy does have a point. When Chase denies this it makes her seem very inexperienced, but on the other hand, her confidence amuses me. I'm not quite sure what I think. I know you're just a mare, love, so brute force isn't your thing. Even if it was, I guess it is against the 'mare rules' or whatever. That's what I would do to assert my dominance. I mean, you're bigger, older, and maybe even more experienced than her. I get that you mares don't really do that kind of thing, but if I wanted her to listen to me, I would attack her until she was on the ground and then threaten to crack her skull open. That's just me, though. I nicker in an icy, completely casual tone. It's not an odd thing for me to say. It might sound psychopathic for anyone who doesn't know me... Or well, anyone. Because it is psychopathic. But when you're raised the way I was, in fight rings, you have to be that way to survive.

I feel a shiver run down my spine as Jericho starts to groom me. It isn't a shiver from the cold or a shiver of discomfort, no. It is one of those shivers you get when you finally get that itch that has been bothering you. It's really fine. A big herd means big responsibilities. I get it. I nicker. As he grooms me more, I feel every muscle in my body relax. I just about fall over because my legs practically turned to jelly. It feels so good, to tell the truth. With so much going on in the herd, I haven't really had a chance to take care of myself or do any 'grooming sessions' with the other mares. I sigh a sweet sigh of relief and feel my body melt into Jericho's, an expression of pure joy spreading across my face. I press my muzzle under his, and then groom him as well as he paws at the ground for food. I start by stretching my neck to reach his ears, licking them in a playful manner. Then I nibble my way down his mane, detangling the long strands as best as I can. His mane is cold and wet to the touch, which surprisingly feels refreshing on my tongue as I try to get rid of all of the knots. His body is warm and large, a nice contrast to the cold weather outside. I try to stay as close to him as I can. Every once in a while I look away from him to watch the fight between Fable and Tessa. It isn't something that interests me anymore. It actually makes me quite uncomfortable. All of this fighting is giving me anxiety, and I would really wish that neither one of them would get hurt. It isn't something we need to deal with in the winter.

        REVOLUTION
        Lead mare ♦ 15 years ♦ Heat: Pregnant ♦ Mood: Casual ♦ Tags:Herd
DO YOU HEAR THE PEOPLE SING?

Revolution stood up straight, ears flicking back and forth frantically, black nose sniffing the air. She heard and smelt a small group of horse not far off. There was defiantly a stallion, and a small number of mares, maybe two or three. Pinning her ears, she watched Riot go and check, ready to round up the mares and protect them with Harley if the foolish other stallion decided to try and steal them or challenge Riot. It would be absolutely idiotic if he did, as fighting in winter usually ended in the weaker stallion dying. She knew Riot would never make such a foolish mistake, but who knew with younger, inexperienced stallions. The scent and sound faded away slowly and when Riot relaxed, she did too, but not once did her ears stop listening. Wishing her tail, she resumed eating the grass stuff. Bending her neck, she nibbled a spot on her faintly rounder stomach. She smiled fondly as she knew that her tiny foal would be growing inside. Her brow crested with worry, she wondered whether it would survive or not. This time it felt different though, maybe it would. She dearly hoped so. If it didn't, that would be a total of 11 who hadn't made it. 12 if she counted the one who had gotten shot by the two-legs. Tossing her head, she looked at Harley. "Harley? Have you ever had a foal?" She asked softly. Grabbing another bit of grass, she chewed whilst waiting for the reply.

        ALOUETTE
Herd foal ♠ 7 months ♠ Herd: Jericho's ♠Mood: Scared, Confused♠ Tags: Jericho's herd (Lotus, Fable and Tessa)
IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT.

Alouette stood there, getting more scared. The mares where hurting each other, biting and kicking and squealing. Unable to watch any longer, she squealed herself, and hid her face and ears in Lotus's bushy tail. Huddled next to the mare, she felt a bit warmer, but still confused.

        ENDEAVOUR
        Herd Stallion♠ 16 years ♠ Herd: Athena, Liannah♠Mood: Cautious.♠ Tags: Herd, Denaria
I CAN AND I WILL. WATCH ME.

Endeavour watched as the mare nickered back. He took in her pinned ears, so didn't attempt to exchange scents with her. If she wanted to, he would oblige, but he knew that this mare wouldn't take anything from anyone. Stepping to the side, he dipped his head respectfully and let her into the overhang. She was more than welcome to stay with them through winter, and even join the herd if she wanted to. He nickered to her, saying "May I enquire of your name? I am Endeavour, and these are my mares, Athena and Liannah." He bent his head and nibbled at a small plant that was poking out of a patch of dirt. She was a beautiful mare, that was for sure. He tried to focus on her face, trying to ignore the heat scent coming off of her as he waited for her reply.

harley looked up, the scent of a stallion unsettled her, but not enough to stop her from eating, revolution was closer to the opening than herself, and riot was already onto it. with a gentle snort she continued to pull at the hay. while distracted, she didn't spook when revolution came towards her and asked about foals. "i have, nineteen, foals to be exact, i've had a few sets of twins. four were still borns, one died in winter when i was young and struggled to keep myself fed, so he starved as i just wasn't producing enough milk. when i was eight, i was snaked with four other mares into a second herd, i gave birth to two healthy colts, i stayed away for about two weeks, the stallion came and brought me and them back. two days later, he killed the first one, and two weeks after he killed the second." she said calmly, almost unfazed that many of her young had died, she was very upset about it, but she had accepted it and moved on. "you are concerned about losing this foal?" she stated in a slight questioning way before calmly speaking softly, "the more you worry, the more likely you are to risk damage to the foal" she said softly and looked at her calmly, "you need to relax hon." she said softly and bumped her nose against the mares shoulder reassuringly before speaking again, "i know the fear is there, but you cant hold onto it. life has a path and it will take it's path, you can't stop it" she said calmly ten continued, "the way i look at it, my foals who haven't made it, haven't had to suffer what life throws at us, cruel stallions, snotty mares, predators, winter,
fires, floods and what not"
she said calmly and then continued to pull at the hay as she listened to the mare.

petrova stood calmly keeping her colt warm, as something suddenly came and spoke to her, the mare turned aggressive, simply to protect her colt she charged forwards and snapped at the stallion in warning to keep away from her colt. pilgrim payed little to no attention to his dam or the stallion, he was cold. petrova flicked an ear to pilgrim for a moment then turned her attention to the stallion, lashing her tail at him in warning, before sighing if she wanted her colt to survive the winter, she needed warmth, this stallion and his herd could provide that. with a soft snort, she nickered to her colt who trotted up to her, she glared at the stallion,
her aggressive behaviour should be understandable to a stallion his age, she was protecting her colt, she walked past him and in towards the mares, nickering softly to the two, wanting their help to keep her colt warm. however pinned her ears instantaneously,
she'd kick them both to the curb if they so much as hurt a hair on his coat. all the same she remained careful to keep the stallion away from her foal.

raylyn looked up to see a mare, at first she was okay but when a stallion came into view, she stood still, frozen. petrified of him. instead of running like she normally would, the mare simply stood, legs slightly splayed as if ready to bolt at any second, but she was completely frozen, something could come up behind her and attack her and she would probably stand still and let it attack her. while young, she was a dominant mare towards mares, and had caused trouble in her birth herd, but she was truly and utterly petrified of all stallions.

tessa side stepped as the mare's hoof connected with her hip. tessa watched her curiously as she put herself between the herd and herself. the dark mare however knew the mare was weaker, slower, a kick from her does not pack a strong punch, she was pregnant, and slow, she physically couldn't beat tessa without losing her unborn foal and the older mare wasn't about to stop, and now that she had continued to defy tessa, she lost all interest in mercy as well, even for the unborn foal. she walked forwards, and looked over her with curiosity, before charging forwards, keeping her ears flattened back she rammed her broad chest into the mares shoulder, little care if the crash resulted in a serious injury to the younger mare. with a sharp squeal, she spun around and double barreled the mares hind gut.
tessa felt guilty for sending kicks to the mare, possibly fatal to the mare. she double barreled at her again, sending a second hard kick to her stomach, and another to her hip before stepping away and trotting a circle around the mare, stopping between her and the herd, before sending a few more kicks, not caring much if those ones hit her or not. with a snort she stood still between the younger mare and the herd, making sure she knew how easy it was for tessa to push her around. tessa was pretty proud of that mare to be honest, she had spirit, a lot of fight, but she was still only young, and had years to perfect, and winter, near spring, with a big fat belly with a precious little animal inside of her, was not the time for her to be protecting her rank that no longer belonged to herd. she flicked an ear to jericho, pinning an ear in warning not to interrupt before speaking softly to the younger mare,
"listen, honey, you can either back down now, keep your unborn foal safe. or, you can continue. take away your foals life, and be left without a herd, there is no in between. to me you are a child. you need to understand, that maybe you can actually learn a thing or two from an older mare." she said calmly, ears pinned back. "for the time being. you can simply stay there" she frowned at her and turned towards the herd, moving closer before turning and watching the younger mare, making sure she stayed out of the herd. she was also ready to snake jericho back to the herd if he tried to offer the young mare comfort, she'd learn her lesson one way or another.

caribou stood tall in the shelter of tree's, she passed a barn previously but had no interest in joining the big herd that was inhabiting it. instead the big mare simply rested quietly, flicking her tail once before looking around for danger then continuing to rest, she was quite cold, he coat was thinner than most horses out here, so she got colder so much easier.

Revolution nodded at Harley's wise words, considering them greatly. "I understand. I have bore 12 foals myself, only one of which was not stillborn. He got killed by the two-legs at a mere 5 months of age. I feel different about this one, and I have hopes of it surviving." she said, then getting some more grass. Swishing her tail, she sighed, looking back at all the mares and Riot. "This has, however, been one of the most successful herds I have ever been in. What about you? Have you always been wild, or where you once in captivity? I myself have been wild all my life." she added. If she and Harley got to know each other more, they might be able to work together better.

Amadeus looked in the distance, seeing two alone mares with a foal under a tree. He trotted over to them, trying not to slip, or anything silly like that. ''Hello?''He said, as he got a tiny bit closer with his two mares. ''Ah, what are you two doing all alone under a tree, if you don't mind me asking? Would you two ladies like to join my herd- for winter at least and come for some shelter with me and my two mares?''He asked, politely. Amadeus was one gentle man. He knew how to treat mares. No rants, no forcing, taking it easy, or fast- depended on the mare- giving them their personal space, treating them like queens. Of course, he didn't mind if the mares would want to stay for winter only. That was alright for him.

She snorted and she was slightly shaking. The weather was very cold and she honestly didn't like winter at all. She flicked her tail and remained stuck to Aden for warmth. Honestly, she just wanted it to be summer or spring. She kinda wanted her foal to be born soon so she'd have to carry less. It was a pain, carrying a foal AND wasting your energy on staying awake in winter.

The stallion tried to keep Willow as much warmth as he could. He looked back at Marielle who seemed to be cold as well. Mark was very hungry... He was cold, and he also had to take care of 9 mares and a foal. Things weren't so easy, and the fact that some of his mares had no patience kinda made him feel bad. He needed to pay attention to all of them, and he tried to. He looked at Ella, his draft mare. He'd have to cover her in Spring along with all of his other uncovered mares- so they would give birth at a good time. He looked at Nova who seemed to sort of have something in her mind. Did Mark know though? Nope. He wasn't a mind reader. He hoped that if a mare of his would leave, she'd come and tell him. It would be nice- but if you'd just run away with no trace, that can be just rude. He looked at Allure. Yep, he'd have to pay attention to her too. And then maybe Riz. And then Luna, Pandora, and Lady. He sighed, as he didn't know what to do. He hoped spring would just come already.

Electra swished her tail and looked at both. ''Follow me. I do know some good shelter.'' The mare begun to move the two away from the blizzard as fast as she could. She soon reached a forest. She galloped into it very deep. The deeper they were into it, the less snow and cold, and the more trees there would be for warmth.

The filly looked away, disgusted by the stallion. Was he really trying to cover her mother? Ew. She didn't mind if it were to be a different stallion, but this stallion was literally driving her insane. She wanted Spring to come, and she wanted another year to pass by so she could finally leave.

He looked at Jolene and sort of ignored what she said, pretending like nothing happened. He looked around him, and he did see that the snow was going to get just a tiny bit lighter. Which was good. Less cold... Diablo stood up and groomed Elena's mane. Yes, he was a stallion, and his duty was to make his mares happy. But he mostly did it for himself. So he'd have a big herd, and they won't leave. ...A little. After he groomed her mane, he pulled back and trotted over to Lyric, grooming her back- getting rid of all of the annoying snow. He swished his long tail and then pulled away from her. He then trotted over to Jolene and groomed her too. He knew she was mad, but that was fine.

Your last chance. Now this is the last time i am coming for you both. Me and Wolf are going. After we get to shelter you may get your lead back.''She said angrily. She begun to gallop after Wolf- and surprisingly, she had amazing balance. Thankfully, she didn't even slip once as she galloped.

Thowra | Brumby | Stallion | 11 Years | Covered: 1 | Tags: Herd (Artemis, Arya, Rayze & Autumn), Caribou
Thowra waited patiently for Artemis to catch up. Their tracks had not quite yet been covered by the snow, so he was confident that she could follow them without any difficulties. He did, however, feel a bit uneasy about Riot being close to his mares. The stallion had already shown Thowra that he wasn't a fair player and was prepared to be nasty to get what he wanted. As he peered through the blizzard, searching for Artemis, he noticed something move out of the corner of his eye. Thowra turned his head to look and spotted a palomino horse, like himself, standing underneath some trees. He softly nickered to Arya, telling her to follow him, then made his way over to the mare. Thowra approached her slowly, his form slowly appearing through the storm like a ghost horse. He neighed to her, extending his neck. She was quite lovely. As lovely as Artemis was. Speaking of which, Artemis probably wouldn't be happy that he'd gone and found another mare, but she would get over it eventually.
