Reginald

The burly Angora was, as he always does, keeping a close eye on the herd with his head erect. It was calm amongst the group as far as he could tell, but he was trained young that things were not always as they seemed. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted trouble heading right towards him. "Good Morning, Reggie!" A young doe had purposely gone out of her way to trot over and bother him. This was not an assumption. His granddaughter regularly did this sort of thing. With a heavy sigh, he nodded to her. "Good morning, Philomena".

Philomena

The meadow was fresh with delicious greens and lovely bushels of flowers sprouting in groups from the earth. It was the kind of day that put Philomena in a good mood. A calm atmosphere really got her going. But that was until she saw the old veteran himself standing so tall it looked like he was touching the clouds with his horns. So serious, she had thought, trotting over to him with the intent to make him relax for a change. "I did not know it was possible for one goat to stand in the exact same place for days at a time". Reginald only shook his head, seeing as she was distracting him. "You work too hard".

"I think that is a rather ridiculous exaggeration, Philly dear".

"Hello, Daphne." Bayard greeted, dipping his head in greeting. Forgetting of the river he stood over, his beard dragged in the cool water. "Whoops," he murmured, lifting his head again. He let out a small, light chuckle and glanced at her before pulling up a few clovers to munch on.

"Stay away from my feet!" He scolded, but he was slightly chuckling at the young kid's playful nature. "Go find someone else to pester; I need to keep watch. Rumor has it that stray dogs have been wandering, and they love to snack on kids."

Minka let out a frightened squeal, diving under Pippins legs and making him stop. "No, daddy, don't let them get me!" She wailed, burying her face in her hooves and whimpering loudly. The kid was absolutely terrified by predators.

Reginald

"why don't you go chat somewhere else", the old goat suggested, hearing Philly darling ramble on and on. He eye caught sight of another buck on duty. Taking his chance to stop his granddaughters Incessant talking, he called over. "Good morning, Pippin!" How are you doing, old chap?"

Philomena

"I can't just leave you alone Grandpa", she had started, but knew better than to continue when he began chatting with another buck. "Hello, Pippin", she greeted curtly. "Hello to you too, Minka". of course she would not forget one of the most adorable kids in the meadow. She glanced over to the herd. Maybe she could converse with someone else.

Pippin have a short nod of greeting to Reginald. "Greetings, friend." He called, turning to Philomena. "Why, hello there." He greeted, flashing her a small smile. He stepped away from Minka, exposing her to the doe. "Say hi, Mink. Quit cowering; no beast'll eat you, me and Reginald'll make sure 'o that."

Minka slowly tottered to her hooves, looking around cautiously. She soon spooted Philomena and butted her legs. "Hi Philly! Dad says there are wild dogs around here. Is that true?" She asked, dragging out the 'u.'

Reginald

"By the way, Pippin, have you seen any sign of those blasted dogs?" Oh yes, the old goat remembered those scoundrels. Wild dogs were a menace to the herd and as long as he could stand Reginald will remain a fighter.

Philomena

Philomena chuckled at the spirited young goat. "Ouch, you really have grown quite strong, Minka", she complimented her with a warm smile. "Ever thought of being a gaurd someday?" It was not uncommon for a few willing does to become guards. Minka sure has the moxy. At the mention of wild dogs, she grinned wryly. "Hm, I see your dad is telling you another one of his wild tales again", she mused, giving Pippin a glance. "No need to worry Minka. We are safe as long as we have the big strong guards to protect us".

Pippin nodded, trotting over to Reginald and leaving Philomena to babysit. "Yes, I have. Last night I got report of dog barking." He reported, nervously scanning the treeline. "Just yesterday I saw a blur of grey sprint through the bushes; I hope it's just my imagination." The boer murmured, furrowing his brow as he thought.

"Whew, that's a relief! She huffed, pawing at the ground. She bent to nab a bright yellow dandelion to chew on before continuing. "Nope! I don't wanna be a guard; I'm scared of beasts!" She chirped, her ears bouncing wildly. "But I do hope to be big and strong like dad- or Reginald!"

Reginald

"Peculiar", muttered Reginald. "Every now and then I catch sight of shadowy figures slinking in the trees, but they will not show themselves. Perhaps that is a good thing, though". He too gave a skeptical glance over to the edge of the meadow where the trees grew. "Our job is not based on imagination, so keep your guard up Pippin. There is a lot at stake". His eyes trailed over to Philomena. She was the only family, that he knew of, that he had left.

Philomena

"Too bad", Philomena hummed. "Well don't get too strong, now. Bucks like a dainty doe now and then, and I am positive little Minka will grow up to be a lovely doe herself. Maybe catch the fancy of someone special". Philomena's head dipped down to munch on a patch of dew soaked daisies.

"I know, I know. I'd never let one of those mangy mutts touch one of the herd members. When they do decide to show their faces we'll chase 'em off for good." He growled, stamping his back foot.

"I don't need a buck!" She huffed, "they're mean, and rude, and mean!" She started to paw at the ground, kicking up dust and grass. She glanced back up a Philomena, wondering if she'd be scolded for being rude.

aella - doe - guard
the pretty young doe felt jealousy fill her entire body when she saw pippin be approached by another doe, so she pulled herself to her feet and approached the four. "hello. what's this about dogs? has there been another sighting?"

daphne - doe - doe
the pale creature let out a soft giggle, hardly noticeable, at the foolish little mistake her alpha made. "hello alpha. how are you today?"

desmond - buck - loner

Reginald

"I admire your spirit", Reginald snorted. He huffed at a new does arrival, needing as Pippin was quite popular today. This would get in the way of his guarding, of course. "And I will be right beside you, old boy. Now if you'll excuse me". He dipped his head in greeting to Aella before returning to his post.

Philomena

On the contrary, Philomena just laughed. "Such a feisty one", she smiled. "Of course you don't. You're the amazing miss Minka. You can take care of yourself". The meadow was so lush today, it felt like a waste ignoring its beauty. "Since your daddy seems busy, why don't you come graze with me?"
