Character Bios


Nana was glad to have made it to the end of the journey. The rest of the herd was slow-moving, but not Nana. She had the ferocity of a mother, and the fury of a storm; no one dared to stop her from leading the way. Not only that, but the female had to keep up with her daughter. Still, she was getting to a fairly old age, and resting felt just as nice as leaving her family in the dust. She drifted further and further to sleep, her little petal-shaped ears flicking this way and that, picking up sounds and processing them, listening for danger but hearing nothing but the noise of other hot and tired animals trying to find a place to shelter them from the sun.



By now Halimah was a fair distance from her mother. The young hippo's movements were sporadic, much like hunting dogs: she'd catch a scent and wander towards it, then hear a sound a moment later and quickly go in that direction, only to return to the original scent or some other exciting new happening after a few steps. She was entranced and enthralled by the sounds of the plains.

Halimah was not particularly experienced, but she did know about some of the animals that could be found in places like this. As it happened, a majority of the creatures she knew about were not great at sharing territory, either because they wanted the same space her herd did or because they wanted to eat her herd. She wasn't afraid of anyone or anything, though - cautious, sure, but never afraid. She kept her meandering, moving further from the water to examine her new surroundings.

Sabie watched the young calf. She seemed to move close to her. Sabie was afraid of the mother but nor of the calf. "Linkin.."
