history; maeve was born in ireland with her two brothers and three sisters. they were all by the side of their loyal mother, lilou, and their protective father tai. the dogs were owned by a young mother and her daughter who was at the age of five at this time, named charlotte. this particular little girl took a liking to maeve, who was looked at as the runt of the litter. however, she was the only bitch that took on a red merle colouring like her father. maeve's name meant "joy" in irish, while meaning "a mythical queen" in american. it was charlotte who had specifically named this puppy, classing her as her own. as maeve grew older, her muscles growing stronger and her limbs growing longer, the walks were lengthened. as they started at a run around the park, they extended to a nonchalant stroll around the whole block. the female usually enjoyed this as she adored the feeling of the breeze blowing in her face, sweeping her ears out behind her, holding her thick tail high with pride. the parents and some of the other puppies had been sold, only two remaining, both males. the dogs all received special treatment so maeve couldn't get pregnant and the males couldn't make any other females pregnant. the brutes took on a violent hobby; play fighting. this caused the fae to become petrified of them and she didn't dare to go near them. as the dogs turned a year and five months old - by this time charlotte was seven - a new member joined the family. charlotte's mother had a baby girl who she named khlara. maeve was protective over the baby and watched over her in case anything or anybody tried to harm her in anyway. the brutes were a potential threat to khlara. if they felt threatened by the child, they could strike with their sharp fangs and the baby would die. on one close incident, the family decided the best idea would be to sell the brutes. maeve was strewn with relief when she knew there was nothing else to avoid. for another year, the family lived together under a little roof, maeve being took on walks less frequently so they could look after khlara. the fae didn't mind; she enjoyed the little girl's company, especially when she ran her fingers through maeve's soft fur and petted her silky ears. on one occasion when maeve was took for a work, she came across a carcass of a rabbit which stunk quite bad and seemed to attract a lot of flies. as maeve was let off her leash to run free through the football field, she took a sneaky bite out of the rabbit before devouring it completely. a few weeks later, maeve had found her stomach swelling up and her fur appeared matted. charlotte and her mother couldn't work out what was happening but didn't suspect anything bad. after a few days of this continuing, maeve was took to the vets for a check up. the vets had stated it was nothing serious and gave her a little bit of medication to heal the poorly stomach, and they suggested that she had fleas and it needed checking and treating. it was a few months until maeve began to get this condition very serious. her fur looked greasy and matted, she would scratch often and her stomach was large and swollen. her eyes were dull and crispy, her ears were always laid back and she often vomited in the house. then it happened when charlotte began to feel sick and began to get skinny. she sneezed and coughed and had many days of school. eventually she had to be took to hospital because something very serious was happening. nobody quite knows why - they suspect this was because of a nasty disease dogs seemed to be getting - several vans pulled out of houses with infected dogs and took them away from their homes, caging them cruelly and driving away. maeve was one of these unfortunate dogs, whimpering in the back of the van with some other dogs. the vans were all over. the next minute she knew, these cage doors had somehow buckled open and she saw mutts leaping for freedom out of the loose doors. the fae followed, having no idea where she was or what she was going to do. looking around cautiously, she followed everybody else into an unfamiliar territory full of tall trees touching the grey sky, the grass encrusted in silver fog.
