Blue Moon Wild Mustangs

In the wild, untamed terrain of Nevada are herds of wild horses, called the blue moon mustangs. These herds are strong and swift, and they have never been tamed or broke despite the cowboys' efforts to capture and ride them. They are too wild and free to be tamed, and they never will be. Nevada is a state of not only wild horses, but canyons, mountains, rivers, deserts, grasslands, and the most beautiful starry skies at night where you will always find a Blue Moon.

.: Horse Behavior :.
Wild mustangs may seem to be mean and cruel towards each other, but really it's all very natural and understandable. The Lead Stallion of a herd is the Dominant Male and the only male horse above the age of 2 in his herd. He will chase away any Bachelors that come near his mares. Sometimes he loses and the bachelor stallion will take over his herd. When a Colt turns two he leaves the herd and becomes a bachelor until he can find Loner mares to make a herd with him. He may also challenge his father for his rank or other lead stallions.

The Lead Mare of a herd is the Dominant Female and the mate of the lead stallion. She may fight off bachelors too, and will take over the herd if a lead stallion dies and let another stallion take over when the mares come In Heat. The lead mare may be challenged for her rank by other mares, and if she dies the other mares will fight for dominance next to the lead stallion. However, the lead stallion usually picks the next lead mare.

After a while the Broodmares of a herd will be kicked out by the stallion to prevent inbreeding. Then they become loners. Bachelor stallions will find them, mate them, and make his herd with them.
A mare has four stages of heat;
0 - not interested in a stallion
1 - still not interested
2 - slightly interested but will run away from a stallion
3 - interested but will still fight a stallion or run away
4 - submits to a stallion snaking her
Mares have one foal at a time, though sometimes she will have twins. Twin foals are extremely rare and will die in the wild because they are weak and tiny. After about eleven months the mare will foal. A mare will abandon a foal if she senses something wrong with it. Stallions kill foals that are born to their mares but are not his offspring. A foal will only nurse for four months, then it will start to graze. At one year it is completely weaned and grazes.
