Rio smiled as the water began dousing the forest. He too picked up he pace, since that amount of water could do quite a bit of damage to a wolf. He now held his head a bit higher, since the smoke was beginning to thin out and some breathable air took its place.

" Gnaw wolves, if you didn't know, are wolves that gnaw on bones to tell the stories and the past and future of the wolves. They were treated badly. They were the outcast of the pack. The lowest rank. They were often killed because of the pack abusing them. And it was legal. How did the Gnaw wolves become Gnaw wolves, you may ask. They became this because they were born with a disfunction of some sort. For example, if you had a twisted leg, or stub tail, or lost an eye, or even something as simple as a ripped ear; you were an outcast. A beta wolf, normally an infertile female wolf, would go to den to den, checking on the newborn pups. If there was a pup with something wrong, they would take it away from it's mother and take it were it was sure to die. The other pups would be given to other mothers and the father and mother of the litter would be cast out of the pack. If the pup did somehow live, and if it returned to the pack, it became a gnaw wolf."

"They best Gnaw wolves would have a chance to compete to gaurd the sacred ring of fire (? Am I getting this right Tiger). That was there only escape out of being abused. They gaurd the ring to keep the Ember safe. The Ember was sacred to the owls and that was how the wolves had fire; the owls learned how to control and 'catch' fire. One day, a selected owl came and grabbed the Ember. It was a good thing. All the Gnaw wolves turned back to normal. Stub legs grew back, tails, eyes came back. It was very magical. And so the past slowly died. Mainly because of no Gnaw wolves; they were the only ones who knew how to write on and read the bones. And you may be wondering how I know all this?"

"Yes, somewhat like that," Desty was surprised on how fast she learned. " My ancestor from several generations back was one of the last gnaw wolves of the ring. He passed on the skill and stories. But as time went on, many of it was lost. My mother once told me of it, and my goal was to find the den of Faolon's pack, and here it is. I didn't know how to read the bones. I had heard of the stories. I put one and one together and learned how to read the bones and gnaw a bone myself. Toke me all my life to do this." He smiled at May. "Do you want to learn?"
