Ryker stopped crying once Phoenix had moved. When she moved completely, Ryker unknowingly pushed over his brother as he slowly crawled around.

Kit awoke with a yawn, believing she was the first one awake. She began to exit her den when she saw Phoenix carrying a limp pup into the forest. Kit ducked back into her den, realizing the pup was dead. That pup was one of her half-siblings. Kit squeezed her eyes shut, whining silently. What if one of her pups died? She looked at her stomach, not noticing Phoenix reenter camp and go into her own den, and whined.

Zachk watched as Phoenix left the den and entered the forest in the direction of the nearest stream. He leaped down from the high rock and walked over to her den, peeking inside. He saw his two pups crawling around. Zachk smiled. Wait, two?? he thought to himself. Zachk walked into the den and realized that Cali was missing. His smile quickly turned into a frown and his jaw dropped open. Greif flooded his body and he fell to the floor near the pups. He suddenly realized why Phoenix had been so upset. Cali was dead.
