The Seasons and Current Weather
SpringSpringtime is when the weather starts to get warmer and new buds appear on the trees. The weather is usually rainy, with the odd sunny day. In late spring the stags, or bucks, will loose their old antlers and begin to grow new ones. A few fawns may be born in late spring.
SummerThe trees and bushes are adorned with greenery and the weather ranges from warm to scorching. Fawns are usually born in May or June. Usually, only a single fawn is born. Twins are very rare. The mother of a newborn fawn will stay away from the herd for around 3 to 4 weeks before rejoining the herd of females and their young. By the end of summer, all young bucks will have left the herd of females and youngsters to join the male herd. Young does will stay in this herd.
AutumnThe air becomes chiller and the trees' leaves turn from green to vibrant hues of red, orange, yellow and brown. The rutting season begins in October and lasts for approximately a month. Stags will be very active during this time, each one seeking to herd does into his own territory. Each stag will mark his territory by scraping the soil with his hooves and antlers and rubbing his head against the bark of trees. Stags will also thrash their antlers against branches and bushes, and strut up and down, bellowing loudly. By doing these things, a stag hopes to attract and mate with as many females as possible within his territory. Rival stags will fight fiercely, charging and clashing their antlers until one gives up, injured or defeated and the other takes over the harem. Stags under the age of 6 years old will probably not gain a harem. Instead, they watch and learn from the older males.
WinterThe leaves of deciduous trees are bare. The winter is a month of hunger. Strips of bark and dead leaves are eaten when there's nothing else. The wind is always icy. It sometimes snows. This is a season when predators are also ravenous. They'll often go to desperate measures to get a decent meal, so be wary.
