the injured stallion let out a soft huff, pinning his ears briefly before nosing cherokee, telling the buttermilk mare not to start a fight. to defuse the situation. midnight hadn't been challenging her lead, and roman was tired. running out of patience. he didn't want any fights breaking out in his herd, not right now. he just wanted his mares to calm down and rest so he could get some sleep. he blew a low snort out of his nostrils, ears twitching each time a drop of rain hit his torn-up back. it was not a pleasant feeling in the slightest. it was like cold needles digging their way into his already sore, bloodied hide. the tired stallion lowered his head and gave cherokee a small push, more roughly than he intended, though he wanted to get moving. he wanted somewhere away from the squealing stallions in the distance, somewhere where he could get a few minutes sleep.

two brown eyes glittered with fury as they watched the rabicano stallion advance, though jackal made no move to meet him. steadily closer and closer, the earth torn up by four sharp hooves as sylar galloped toward him, though jackal didn't flinch. didn't move. he was thinking, calculating, drawing his years of experience in battle back to mind. finally the stallion was just feet away, head thrust forward and muzzle hanging open. the grullo stallion threw himself into the air, the beginnings of a furious squeal rumbling in his sides as he lashed out with two front hooves, ears pinned against his head and stained teeth bared as the noise shoved its way out of his muzzle and into the chilly air. high-pitched, loud, threatening, drawn-out and angry. how dare this stallion challenge him in such a manner. idiotic.
