Tarnac lay in the sun outside of an alleyway. He had been attempting to rest, but the screams of the human being woke him and he lifted one lazy lid to watch the commotion. The big blue Ridgeback wasn't much affected by the humans and their machines; he knew to stay away from them. Sitting up, Tarnac yawned and his long pink tongue curled before he snapped his jaws shut, eyes narrowing as he continued to watch the commotion. The night before he had been fairly successful during his search for food but really when was a stray not hungry. Tarnac did prefer to search for food at night, though. It was easier with less humans and often during a time when the restaurants were throwing away their left overs. Sleeping in the day could be difficult, though, especially if a nosy human decided he needed an owner or a kennel. He was far enough away from them now, though, that he wasn't paid much mind.
Tarnac's attention was drawn back to the strays. It seemed like a popular place. Two of them were fighting over a "den" apparently, and he ignored them. Unless she was expecting or nursing pups he didn't see why she would have a den. It was stupid to get into an unnecessary life or death situation when you were a stray in his opinion. But maybe that wasn't why most of the strays ever lived long. He sighed, stood, and shook the dust from his fur. If the morons were attacking humans then the dog catchers would be there in no time. Dogs attacking humans for no reason meant the possibility of rabies and rabies meant all strays in the cities would be collected and euthanized. He wasn't going to be around for that. If any of them had a brain they would do the same.
