Trapped in the Mist's prone white form lay strewn on the dusty ground, scarlet laces of wounds all around her. Slowly, but quicker than usual, her scrawny flank rose and fell…
She was walking along the steep rocks in her old home, on her left side, it was the cliff, and if she put one paw wrong, then she would die. She hauled herself up the narrow cleft, stepping inside the pack's camp. As usual, it stank with blood, and death. She didn't realize her father was watching her. Then, a young wolf her age bounded up. A shadows of a smile played on her narrow muzzle. She rarely smiled, and this wolf was one of the few who even made her smile. That was it. In a flash her father had joined her at her side. A wicked grin appeared on his face. "Goodevening my dearest daughter, what were you doing? But wait, never mind that, are you ready for some extreme battle training?" He quized, voice smooth as poisoned honey. Her blood turned to ice inside of her. "Extreme battle training meant fight to the death, she did not want that to happen to the other young wolf. She shook her head quickly, answering. "No father, I think we should save it until I have more training," she answered quickly. At once, her father's crooked smile grew wider, and his rank breath was warmth in her ear as he whispered. "So you care now? Let's go train, and come on. Bring young Winter's Gale here along. There can be a training lesson, just for you and him…," he whispered, voice dangerous. There was a spark of fear in the young wolf's eyes as he looked at Trapped in the mist, clearly he knew something was wrong. And yet, he merely got up, ready to obey, eyes determined. Trapped in the Mist realaxed slightly, he was so brave. And she would most certainly give her life to save his. But she wasn't sure he could survive her skill. Tears welled in her eyes, and her heart pained in her chest. But she got up. Then, her father's smile grew even wider. He flicked his tail, signaling for the two to follow. Head down and sad, the pale young wolf followed, hoping the fate of the one she loved would be better than hers. The rocks began to slope outward. And soon a ring of trees appeared in the landscape ahead. Her muscles ached from hours of fighting as it was, and previous wounds were not fully healed. Her father glared at her sharply, "Step into the ring, and do not dare try to escape," then he stepped forward, whispering to her again. "Or I will hunt you down…" With that, he shoved Trapped into the Mist into the ring of trees, or death as it was known. Her heart ached, she glanced at Winter's Gale coldly, pretending that she didn't care. The confused, hurt expression on his handsome face broke her. How could she attack him? She hesitated, only to be mocked by her father. "Coward! Attack!" He shouted maliciously, teeth bared. She had no choice, a red haze rose in her eyes, and all control was lost to her. A moment later she found herself laying on the ground, blood soaked, panting, and next to a prone pale form. She pulled herself to frantic paws. Heart beating quick in her chest she gazed down, it was Winter's Gale. Blood was pouring like water from a waterfall out of many wounds. He gave a feeble cough, lifting his head to look into her blue eyes. There was pain there, as well as something else. Love. She was about to tell him that she cared and then, his rasping breathing stopped, with a desperate Trapped in the Mist standing over him, as his blood pooled onto her paws. Heart pounding in her chest she shook her head from side to side in frantic, ceaseless anger and agony. She had killed him… and never told him that she loved him. She had needed to hear it from his own mouth before believing it. And now it was too late. She had killed him…
Then she woke, in the dark, alone in her own world of pain.
