Wild horses live in groups called a band/herd. Band/Herd sizes usually range from 4-7 horse, the lead stallion and 3-6 mares, but can be bigger. Lead Stallions sire all his mares foals, and will kill a foal that is not his. There are 3 different types of categories that wild horses can be in which are; lone mares, bachelors, and a normal herd/band, each which has at least 4 horses including the stallion, apart from loners which can have unlimited horses. All horses are kicked out of their birth herd from the lead stallion or mare, at at least a yearling, usually at 2 years old, when they reach sexual maturity, this is to prevent inbreeding.If a mare decides to try and escape a stallion, she will rarely try, but if she does, there isn't much she can do since stallions are interested if they're snaking a mare and will eventually successfully snake them.

Lead Stallion's Role

The lead stallion would of gotten kicked out of his birth herd at the age of 1 or 2 years, like every other horse. He then would of had to eventually joined a bachelor herd/band if he desired to survive through the winter. He could of then decided to leave and start his own herd, or something could of happened to him and he got kicked out. Whatever the reason, he is here now, searching and snaking mares during Summer and Spring, sometimes Autumn and never Winter, depending on when he finds a mare. He will often cover a mare in heat as soon as he finds her, or maybe he'll introduce himself and allow her to join the herd first. His job is to snake mares into his herd/band, cover all or most of his mares when they come in heat (basically sire all foals), protect the herd, and fight away predators.If you see a wild horse herd the stallion will be at the rear, this is so predators can't make an attack from the back. If the predator is at the front, that's where the lead stallion will rush off to.


Lead Mare's Role

The lead mare would of got kicked out of her birth herd at the age of 1 or 2 years old. This, as mentioned above, is to prevent inbreeding, it happens to all horses, both fillies and colts. The lead mare would of then become a loner and had the rights to go through all the herds on her way, either getting snaked into a herd or making it through. Whatever happened, she will have to fight for this position, though, as many desire this rank. If there is no lead mare, but two mares have decided to challenge each other, the lead stallion will judge, eventually he picks one of the mares, whether it be because he likes her better or not. This rank allows the lead mare to be the first to drink from water supplies, push/boss other mares and foals around, lead the herd to a location of her choice, and even kick out mares she doesn't like. The lead mare is not picked by the lead stallion, but from fighting. Usually the oldest, most experienced and dominant mare will become lead mare, but younger mares can also fight for the position.


Lone Mares

Lone Mares are simply mares that do not have a band/herd. They are entitled to go through herd/band territories, though, but have to join a herd/band if they are snaked by the lead stallion. They are usually snaked by stallions instead of band/herd mares since it's easier for the stallions to take them. Lone mares will not survive during winter though, as they have no chance due to the cold and they can't share the warmth with anyone and the cold gets to them.


The Bachelors

The bachelor herd is a group of stallions. They too, we're kicked out of their birth herd at the age of 1 or 2 years. They can range for any age from 2 years to 8 years, after that the bachelor leader is allowed to kick them out since he believes stallions should have at least a mare by then, but he usually lets them stay anyway. The lead bachelor is usually the one who started the herd/band, and is the oldest, most experienced and the most dominant. Newer stallions can challenge the bachelor leader, but can die if they lose. The bachelor leader goes out and snakes mares while the Second leader is in charge. The bachelor leader can either start a herd with his mare, or he can stay in the herd/band and gain more mares, once he has gained at least three mares, the Second leader is entitled to kick him out, become the leader. The first mare that a bachelor gains immediately becomes lead mare, but new mares can challenge her for the rank when they want to.


Regular Herd Member

These mares are just regular herd members, they were kicked out of their birth herd at the age of 1 or 2 years as well. They must listen to the lead mare or stallion, or they have to face the consequences. It's not that bad, though, as they can do what they want as long as they respect the lead mare and stallion. If they are not able to have their own foals, they can steal other mares foals, just not the lead mares, or you'll be punished.


Foals


The foals are the offspring of the mares and the lead stallion. The get away with almost anything, apart from getting a soft nip from the lead mare or mother as a warning if they break the rules. When the lead mare has foals they will become princess/prince.

Mares might even be foaling, a week after this they can be recovered and carry a new foal for the next year

Days are shorter and nights are longer. The temperature is cold and blankets of snow will cover the land. Some foals may be born in the beginning or end of winter. Can be a dangerous time as it is extremely cold and some herds are even wiped out. Stallions rarely fight and mares are never in heat during this time.

A mare has 4 stages of being in heat. They are:

0- Not interested
1- Still not interested
2- Slightly interested, but will fight
3- Interested, but will fight if a stallion tries to hard
4- Very interested and will let any stallion cover her, even if she doesn't know him.

Personality: She's quite dominant, and will fight for lead mare position. If you aren't a threat for lead mare position though, she will most likely become as sweet as honeysuckle with you. She is generally really kind, and will be nice. She is protective and alert, and can be a challenge and tease around stallions. She won't hesitate to speak her mind, whether it's a good or bad decision. Her friends and family also believed that she would make a good role model, inspirational lead mare, and very protective and motherly. She can also be very stubborn and won't let others boss her or her friends and loved ones around.
History: She will only tell those she trusts.
Other: Is a like a very rare limited edition, so can be picky when it comes to stallions.

Personality: He is a very brave, fearless, strong stallion who hates other stallions, but the sweetest thing when it comes to mares and his foals. He will almost never give up when it comes to mares, whether it be fighting a stallion, or snaking a lone mare as he is also very stubborn.
History: Normal. He was kicked out of his birth herd at 2 years, and joined a bachelor herd, stayed there until he was 6, stole mares, but they got taken by humans, or died. Basically a regular stallion's life.
Other: Is very experienced in fighting, and is very muscular with heaps of strong muscles.
