Without thinking, the brown-and-black dog dashed after Dala, but as he caught up with her he remembered what she'd said. Begging face? Great. I'm not that good at begging...but I guess it is a skill that's required to live, and I should learn it. If you'd call it a skill.

When they reached the house, Dala flattened her ears against her gray and white head and scratched on the door, putting on her saddest face possible and wagged her tail slightly. From inside the house, Dala could hear the familiar sound of a child's feet on a wooden floor.

[BT!]

Lane heard this too as soon as he approached the door. He quickly thumped down onto his haunches and waited, flattening his ears to his head and trying to look as pleading as he possibly could. He wagged his tail slightly, seeing if that would sell the act a bit more.

He felt humiliated. This wasn't how he'd imagined himself when he'd first walked into this neighborhood. But, if what Dala said was correct, this was a very quick way to get free food--and you didn't even have to fight for it, either.

The little child who Dala came to know as "The Boss", swung open the door and almost wacked the dogs on the snout. As soon as the child saw the two dogs, the child yelled, "Mommy, Mommy! Puppy here! Puppy here!" The little boy runs out the door and tackles Dala. Dala knew better then to bite him, so she decided to just wriggle out of his grip. Just then, a tall, elegant woman steps out of the house and yells something to the child and the child walks into the house sullenly. The woman walks over to the dogs and pets Dala on the head and shouts over to her house, "Hun? Cookie's brought a friend." Cookie is not my real name! Geez, why can't you just understand that my real name is DALA! Dala thinks to herself.

Rose only huffed. The large dog didn't seen convinced, and her cloudy thoughts blocked off her cheerful, boastful mood. She only replied to him, "well, if you say so. I don't really talk to other dogs anymore much like I used too." She shrugged before adding, "just.. just not my thing anymore, I guess." She shook her thick fur, looking dull.

"Well, you're talkin' to me, aren't ya'? That's a start." Jack said, "I'm not much of a talker either, to be honest."

Rose shrugged, "I guess, it's a start probably. And oh." She thought in her mind, not really, but it'll probably close. She flicked her ears and shake her matted fur.

"Well, I better go find my older sis. She is probably somewhere, yappin' at everyone." Jack barks quietly, standing up. "It was ...interesting... Speaking with you."

Rose nodded, "yeah. See ya around." Without waiting for a reply, she flicked her tail in a safe journey quote before turning and slowly making her way down the damp sidewalk.
