Fern stood up promptly and pushed past the two boys. She didn't want sympathy, she didn't want comfort. Fern just wanted to be alone. They had followed her to her special place, her hiding spot, HER place. When Fern's feet hit the path on the jungle floor she picked herself up into a swift run. She wouldn't stop until she had to, until she was far away from everything else. Her mother had always told her she couldn't run from her problems. The only problem with that was, she used to live in a zoo. She couldn't have run even if it was just for pleasure.
Cass shook the memories out of his head. He scooped Nadu away from Jukani and picked him up gently in his jaws. Nadu squeaked a protest but was soon silenced by slight pressure from Cassuno's well placed teeth. Cass Nodded to the girls then trotted slowly into the dense underbrush. He clawed his way up a thin tree holding Nadu gently in his mouth. The tiny cub's body curled in on itself, a sense of protection. When Cass was comfortable on a limb half way up the tree he released his cub into his paws and curled them close around it's body. Casually and slowly he groomed Nadu, cleaning blood off of his tiny mouth and dust away from his delicate ears. When he finished he looked down below, he could still see Amber and the others. Cass released a soft yet booming call to them.
Issa sighed. She sat, still, for a long while. She glanced at Draco without turning her head. She could feel awkwardness haze around her. She felt this was her fault. Issa couldn't help but blame herself for her injuries, and for causing this male to pick up more responsibility. She knew he felt like he had to offer, he felt like it was his job or his duty. Where Issa hadn't minded the company she wasn't for sure how long she could take having a personal nanny, especially if she had to stay on the ground. The sun shifted through the canopy sending a beam of light straight down over Issa. The chocolaty spots suddenly showed themselves through her unusually dark, black fur. The sun was hot on her skin, something she wasn't used to feeling. Usually the leaves and flowers and vines kept the rays at bay. They only came through in little spots or slivers. With a sigh Issa welcomed the odd, new experience. Maybe this is what the earth jaguars like. Maybe I could like it too. She thought to herself.
