A few minutes later, Kivuli had settled down. His sleep was now peaceful. Gentle snores rolled around him and he relaxed. He had won the battle, in his own mind, and taken over the Savannah in the name of his father, Mungu.

Mali watched her mate for a few more moments and turned away, keeping watch for anything that may harm them. She saw nothing, not even a lizard. Her eyes drooped, but she stayed awake, not wanting to lose the magnificent cool of the night. It felt wonderful.

Kivuli's eyes snapped open. The night had grown cool, surprisingly. "Mali?" he called, unaware that she had gotten up. "Is something the matter?" Slowly he stood and stepped around Jenny to walk closer to Mali.

Mali looked at him. "No, I'm fine. I just wanted to enjoy the cool night air." She looked away, eyes closing in contentment. "It feels nice."

[Silver Raven]

He shivered a little. "I suppose it does" Kivuli settled back down next to Jenny, wrapping himself around her to keep her warm. He continued to scan through the grass for any sense of danger. The night remained cool and comfortable for several more hours. Only the sound of the soft wind and distant hyenas broke the unusual silence.

Mali stared out into the cool night, watching as the sun rose. It was a beautiful sunrise, but a warning about the long, hot day ahead. She hated the heat. "Kivuli, do you hear something?" She had heard the soft sound of footsteps, crunching on the dry, dusty ground.

[Starry Night]

Jenny shifted in her sleep pawing at the earth for a breif moment, then settling down. She was dreaming of rain and grass that wasn't hard.

[Silver Raven]

Kivuli had already stood. His muscles rippled under his pelt. "Yes" he said simply. Kivuli let out a long, loud, deep roar. He hoped that would scare the creature away. He looked down to Jenny, who was still sleeping.

Jenny's ears pricked up at the roar. Her eye's opened slowly, but she didn't stand up.

Mali walked over to where she had heard the sound. Nothing was there, not anymore. "I think your roar scared it away." She said this in a teasing tone, knowing that he would not think it was funny.
