Kivuli paced under a short, thorny tree. Rocks jutted up from the ground around his huge, grey paws. The earth was cracked from lack of rainfall and the sun shone hot on the grass. Beginning to lose his temper, Kivuli spun around, letting out an angry roar that shook the world around him. He placed his full weight against his paws, digging his long nails into the side of the thorny tree. Ten deep gashes were torn into the dry bark, letting the last of the tree's life slip away and evaporate into the atmosphere. "I don't know why the dry season has to last so long!" He arched his back angrily, forcing his dehydrated muscles to ripple under his tight skin. "I swear it was shorter last year, or at least not as bad." Kivuli continued to pace around his tree.

Mali watched her mate pace. She watched until she could watch no longer. "Stop pacing! The dry season was just as long last year. You always complain." Mali huffed at him. "But you are right. This season is worse than last year." She lay sprawled on the ground, trying to dissapate heat from her body. It was far too hot for this time of year. It should be cooling off and raining, not very hotter and drier.
(They have a cub. Ok, then.)
