Jakoby threw himself to the side, detouring farther into pack territory. His mind ran almost as fast as his paws. He knew the pack wolf could beat him on fair ground. He'd have to turn the tables. Jakoby veered to the right, his strides lengthening. He took deep breaths, arching his back with every stride. He was the black fox for crying out loud! No pack wolf was going to out smart him! He pushed himself harder, his muscles starting to burn. The wind in his face, it made him feel alive. He ran faster.

Blue growled and took off after him, right on his heels. This time the brute veered into the shadows of the trees, the shadows blending with his black coat. He didn't show himself as he ran alongside the loner, pinpointing the best area for a surprise attack on him. The territory had all sorts of things he could use to his benefit, among them was the fallen tree right in Jakoby's path.

Jakoby's eyes widened as he saw the fallen tree. This was it. He pushed himself harder, a black and white blaze for a second, before launching himself into the air. He felt nothing below him for a second, and then his paws came crashing down. He felt a sharp pain in his right fore-leg, then he back paws landed as well. He looked back and leaped into the shadows. Sharp pain shot up his foreleg with every stride. His ears picked up the burble of water, and he veered towards it. Swimming didn't require any weight on his already injured foreleg. All he had to do was make it there.

There. He saw the wolf injure himself. The brute pushed himself out of the shadows and followed suit, tracking him by scent. It was obvious he was slower than he had been and he must have been in pain. The sound of rushing water caught his attention and he quickened his pace. The brute soon saw Jakoby and leaped at the brute right as the water source came into view. He was aiming to knock him down.

Nala the pup

I didn't know what to do. A loner had tried to help me, but the pack wolves were going to kill him, I had to help. I ran after the loner who had been chased off. I had no idea where he had gone, but I had to find him.

Elizabeth . alone . loner . by a river

Elizabeth sat by the edge of the river, its cold waters submerging her fore paws. The trees' leaves made low rustling sounds, which nearly calmed the white female. Elizabeth flicked her tail, perking her ears when she heard a sudden sound in the underbrush. Whipping her head around, Elizabeth happened to spy a small warbler foraging by the bushes. Elizabeth watched it, her paws shuffling as she finally began to crouch.
Now she happened to notice how hungry she was. The white wolf kept her eyes on the ginger brown plumage, and her tail lay flat in the water. She wondered how the bird didn't see her, though maybe it was preoccupied. Elizabeth's lips curled back into a snarling gesture, and then she lunged with all her strength. The bird, unfortunately, had heard her from the start and had been watching her yet also trying to snatch a worm. Elizabeth growled, upset. "Stupid bird," she muttered to herself, licking her lips.
As if by pure luck, Elizabeth caught the scent of something dead. Elizabeth pursed her lips, beginning to trot in the direction of the smell.

Jakoby felt the breath leave him as Blue tackled him. How very luckily that Blue's momentum brought them to rest in the river. Jakoby could feel the current pulled him, and writhed around, looking for something to boost him out of Blue's grip. Jakoby could feel the water soaking into his fur. Hopefully this would make him harder to hold on to.

The brute wasn't expecting to hit his target. He got a mouthful of his scruff and bit down, enough to break skin and draw blood as they tumbled into the river. He shook his head back and forth viciously to make the wound worse. "And you thought you couldn't be caught." he said through his scruff.

Jakoby huffed, "If it were flat ground, you wouldn't stand a chance!" Jakoby could feel blood running down the back of his neck. He had to get away, it was pretty much now or never. He growled, waiting a second then lashing out viciously at Blue.

Nala the pup

After running for a while, I had finally found Jakoby and the pack wolf. I didn't know how a pup could help, but I would do my best no matter what. "Leave him alone." I ran over to Blue trying to think of a way to stop him from hurting Jakoby.
