Ice nodded, "some dogs showed me it when I was little. But I just roamed the streets, liking to be alone." He led the way down the shadows, the buildings now thinning out.
Ice sniffed the air and blinked. He stopped, tail flicking. He scented other dogs, but it seemed faint. He walked on quietly, flexing his stiff shoulders.
Ice walked along, twigs crunching under his paws as he left the sidewalk and down a leafy slope. He said, "this is the forest. The city is surrounded by it. The shelter is nearby."
Ice walked on, ears pricked. He scented the air, as he walked through the trees and mushy ground, he could hear barks of dogs echo through the still air.
