I recieve an urgent call from an anonymous person about an abandon/abused horse stuck in what seems to be a jumble of wood and wire. I groan since I am not feeling the best, probably have a touch of a cold, and start off. I follow the directions and drive for about half an hour before I finally turn down the property with the correct address. I do not immediately see the horse, so I get out and start looking around. I am just looking through some scattered bolts and things when I smell a stench, that of something very unclean and possibly rotting. I follow the rancid odor until it suddenly stops. I look around me and see the horse, a mare. She was in quite a mess, fencing wrapped on her leg and flys already tearing at her slowly. I walk over as slowly as I can manage and get close enough to shoo the flies away, however, I hold back. I look down at the starving animal and speak "Hey girl, how'd you get yourself in such a mess? I think I can help you, but I am going to need your trust. Can I just shoo these flies away for a start?" I know I am talking to a horse but it seems right.
Star snorted, ears pinned against her skull. She lunged, well really raised her head and pushed it out in that direction, snapping at the girl. Kicking out with her free back leg she tried to stand, her hooves sliding in all directions on the muddy ground. Her free back leg got caught in a piece of wire, her front knees slammed into the ground when she fell. Back on her side she tried again but now with both back legs entangled to some extent in the wire the results were the same, her energy was gone. Laying on the ground with her throat dry she could only pin her ears and watch the girl.
