In her sleep she twitched, having fearful images, but the nightmares were soon interrupted by a small noise that awoke her just as something in the nightmare attacked her, though she was too young to understand it was only a dream. She awoke to find herself yelping and crying out in fear, like a car alarm that never seemed to settle, small tears welling in her eyes. Her tail was tucked between her legs as she never stopped her screeching, looking for comfort

Jake felt a horrible feeling inside when the pup began to wail. She was much younger than he and she wanted comfort, and Jake knew he was the one who caused her crying. Quickly he approached her, ears back, tail tucked and belly scraping the ground. He wanted to show he was no harm. "Hey there." He said softly, keeping a comfortable distance between them. "Did I startle you?" He asked her, inching closer. He tilted his head to the side again like he had before, then sat down. "You don't have to cry." He said, trying to comfort her. He paused and looked her over for a moment, then asked "Do you have a home?" He questioned, glancing around expecting to see her mother or owner somewhere. She was young, and he wondered if she was too young to be off on her own. Jake was still only a pup and thinking back he remembered that he had been on his own when he was about a month old, so it was kind of around the same. He looked at her again, scanning her body to see if she had any cuts or scrapes, or injuries of anytime. Then he slid forward to try and see if she had a collar on. He lay down, looking up at her with his chin on the ground, wanting her to know he meant no harm.

At the other dog coming near her she at first yelped and leapt back crying more tears streaming until she sniffled and looked around seeing that the other dog looked upset she instantly felt concern. She let out her last tear and looked at Jake and crawled close to him, curling up next to his feet and flopping onto the ground "B-bwother" she whined and licked his paws curling around them. She seemed to ignore his other questions, thinking he was family

Jake watched Sam worriedly, not wanting her to feel any worse. He was surprised and happy when she had curled up close to him, he licked the side of her face gently. He was confused when she had said 'brother', he glanced around first thinking her brother was somewhere nearby, but then realized she had called him 'brother'. For some reason felt good about it, he could treat her like his little sister. He looked to her and asked "Are you hungry?" He really liked laying with her but he knew all dogs had to eat and he wondered if she wanted some food.

Grimm- 4 year old Female Tibetan Mastiff-

Grimm had been licking the sausage and ham remnants from her paws and muzzle when she just barely caught the tiniest of whimpers. The sound was so minute that she wasn't sure if she'd actually heard something or not. The big female directed all of her focus to her ears, the folded auds perking slightly. Sure enough, the whimper sounded again.

Rising, she instructed Klaus and Sine to stay put. "If any strange dogs approach, get in the tunnel. Don't try to defend the food. I'll be back in just a moment." She padded off in the direction of the sound. It had seemed to come from something very tiny. It had almost sounded like a kitten.

Secretly, Grimm loved cats. Big tough dogs weren't supposed to like cats. She used to have one when she lived with the old woman. It lived outside, of course, but it would visit and she would groom it and snuggle with it. It was a tiny orange thing with a white chest and paws. She'd affectionately named him Little One. He had disappeared a year or so ago, but she missed him dearly.

Walking around the corner of a big Volkswagen bus, she happened upon two pup. One of them was very tiny. It didn't look like it should even be away from it's mother yet. The other was older, probably around four or so months old. Grimm put on her protective motherly voice. She was a big, big dog and didn't wish to frighten the pups.

"Are you both alright? I heard whines." She tilted her head, one folded ear perking. "Is anyone hurt?"

-Bacia- 5 year old Female Presa Canario-

Worry surged through the marbled black beast. Obsessively and compulsively, she paced around the house. She checked every single room. She made sure every single wall was well fortified. Another incident like today could not happen. The Junkyard Man would be angry if he came home to the house smelling like those mongrels.

Without realizing it, she'd begun to release soft, worried whines. What if he could smell them when he returned? What if he became angry with her? He could get rid of her. She would be a bad dog. She couldn't lose her human. Bacia loved the Junkyard Man. He was the only human to ever show her affection. He didn't force her to fight. He didn't beat her. He loved her too, right? He said she was a good dog. That meant love.

Once she was satisfied with the fortification of the inside, Bacia moved outside and did a perimeter check. There was a wide berth between the house and the rows of cars. She made very clear markings. This area was off limits. Those stupid pups... The male claimed that there had been no markings, but a dog had to release itself somewhere. She had urinated and defecated in this yard every day. Any dog with a nose couldn't miss it.

From the outside she checked the house, looking for other ways in. Except for the hole in the front door that she'd made and the hole where the pups had wandered in, everything was secure. To be safe, Bacia took an old tire between her jaws and pulled it against the house, blocking the hole to the garage. She did this again and again until a large pile of tires blocked the way.

To make her point clear, she marked the area right in front of the tires. Anyone coming in now would deserve everything that she would give to them.

That pup had been reckless. He would learn or he would die young. Bacia had held back. She was a prized fighter; having killed many dogs much larger than herself. A clamp behind the neck with her overly powerful jaw muscles and a shake and the pup would have been dead. He had acted without thinking. Some day he would do that to a dog that didn't have control of itself and he would pay the price.

As pups do, the pair had been exploring. She understood that which is why she didn't attack them outright. Rather she thought to scare them into never returning. The nibbles from the male pup had barely been felt, but had angered Bacia to the point where she'd almost bitten him in return. Self control does wonders, however. A dog that let herself be ruled by anger wouldn't live very long in the ring.

Satisfaction reached, Bacia pulled herself onto the long padded rocking seat where she sometimes sat with the Junkyard Man. Curling up, she placed her head upon the edge, surveying both the path and the yard before her.

Jake lifted his head and whipped it around to stare at a dog who had spoken, a bolt of surprise crashing through him. He kept silent, studying Grimm with empty eyes. Last time a new dog came along, it was bad news. But her motherly voice seemed free of threat, so he looked her over one more time before he spoke. "Where fine, I think." He said, looking to Sam. The fur on his back had pricked slightly, he was worried that this dog, much bigger than the last one, would hurt them. He lowered his head and made a posture, showing with body language that he wasn't comfortable with her coming any closer, he wanted to ask her to stay where she was for the time being. He looked into her eyes, half curious and welcoming, and half cautious and wanting her to leave because he was afraid of the big dog hurting them.

After a moment his body language changed and he offered a wag of his tail, inviting her closer. Maybe this dog would be nice, friendly, and harmless. The same interested hope that had been inside him when he and Morgianne were at the house appeared when he looked at Grimm. His eyes showed the puppy-sparkle of curiosity and the worry had been forgotten. Maybe she'd even like to play.

Grimm- 4 year old Female Tibetan Mastiff-

The wariness of the larger pup was noted and she did as his behavior asked. Seating her large form, she curled her thickly furred tail around her side. Even when his demeanor changed she stayed where she was. It was better for him to approach her than for her to approach him. That way he would feel safe rather than threatened.

"What's with this little one here?" She motioned to the tiny pup. She assumed that this was the one she'd thought was a kitten. It was unfortunate that there wasn't actually a kitten. She would love to have one again, but, what could you do?

"My name is Grimm. What might your name be?" Still seated, she waited patiently for the answer. Her next question would be whether or not they were hungry, which she assumed they were. Pups were always hungry. Hell, she was always hungry too.

It seemed she might be in the habit of collecting pups. Already Sine and Klaus waited for her. She intended to take care of the pair as much as possible. What would a few more hurt? The only issue would be food. Stealing from shoppers at the grocery store wouldn't work. She was lucky that she'd been able to steal that massive, succulent ham. The humans would catch on and she would be captured. Then where would the pups be?

Maybe she would patrol the junkyard and look for other large dogs. She could smell them around. She'd just have to find them. Perhaps they could organize a hunt and bring down something in the forest behind them big enough to feed them for a time. The more paws that helped, the bigger the prey they could bring down. The idea settled in her head and she definitely planned to work on it.

Jake's eyes found their way to Grimm again when she spoke, "I'm not sure," He said, "But I can handle it." He said grinning. Jake was not old enough to know how to take care of a pup with Sam's age, but he did have a protecting instinct inside of him that knew just a bit about pups younger than him. And, he wanted to be her big brother, just like she had called him. The thought of that made him feel the warmness inside that he hadn't felt in a long time. He had siblings somewhere, but he barely knew them. He had lived on his own when the pound had taken him and changed everything. He had no family, and though the pack offered a place he can call home, he longed for that feeling of having someone to be his siblings. He envied other pups that wrestled their brothers and sisters, who wandered around with them and did everything as a family. Jake was what you could call a "family-less" pup. Morgianne was his friend who had given him that same feeling, and he hoped that she'd still be his buddy, but there's no harm in getting a little sister. By now all the worry had gone as the big dog introduced herself and Jake felt more comfortable with her. "I'm Jake. I'm not sure about her name, though." He said, looking to Sam and smiling.

She smiled at the big pup when he claimed that he'd be able to handle the smaller pup. He obviously was full of that protective instinct that a lot of dogs seemed to lack these days. She wasn't sure that he could actually handle it, so she would do her best to persuade him to bring the pup back to the concrete tunnel.

"You look hungry. I know she's hungry. Little pups are always hungry." Canting her head over her shoulder, she continued. "I've made my home in a tunnel nearby. There are two other pups there that I've invited to stay with me. We have food and the shelter is very nice. Would you like to eat and possibly stay, Jake?"

It was true. The tunnel was big enough for a few full sized dogs, so it was more than big enough for a pile of pups. She'd been collecting soft things as she perused the junkyard. Scraps of clothing, newspapers, old car interior. She'd formed a sort of nest within the tunnel.

Grimm hoped that he would accept. Although the little pup wasn't a kitten, she was looking forward to caring for it. It was lovely to be needed. She had always been the one looking after her brothers and she missed it even though she hadn't been without them for very long.

Looking towards the young pup, she awaited his answer.

Jake thought about it for a bit, he had a car he slept under, but it probably wasn't nearly as comfortable as the tunnel Grimm was talking about. The thought of food tempted him, he himself was wondering if the pup was hungry, and come to think about it, so was he. He imagined the warm bodies in the tunnel, at night it'd probably be impossible to be cold with body heat all around. He thought it was okay and nodded to Grimm, but then added "Only if she's fine with it." He looked down at Sammie, licking her nose playfully. He wanted her to also have a say in it, he wouldn't make her go if she didn't want to.
