Crushing on Shadow

Meadow happily followed Shadow out to the hunting grounds. It was nice to get a chance to stretch her legs and her spirits were high. Even though they traveled in silence, Meadow was in such a good mood that it was not at all awkward. Just being able to spent time with Shadow, just the two of them, was wonderful.
Soon, she found herself crouched beside Shadow in the brush at the edge of the clearing. Both wolves' ears were keenly pricked for any sounds of incoming prey, but Meadow actually felt the herd before she could hear them. The ground vibrated ominously, announcing the arrival of scores of beating hooves. It excited Meadow to think that soon the elk would arrive. She could smell them now and they were clearly elk. It was strong prey, and Meadow was doubtful that only two wolves could bring down an elk, but she joy and excitement crowded those doubts from her head, replacing them with the thrill of the hunt. Meadow cared far more about having a good time than actually catching anything.
The elk were coming into view now, and the members of the herd that ran in front slowed as their interest shifted from travel to a good meal. Soon they would disperse and give the wolves a chance to select their target.
