lead hunter brute] speaking with the alpha & kendrick
the brute nodded as the alpha spoke, he knew. it was getting harder by the day, the prey was leaving in herds as they felt the storm, and such approach. he knew that today they would be back later than yesterday, possibly by dusk. it was hell hunting in the snow, since the animals were hibernating or hidden in their dens, or frozen solid even. winter was the worst season for them. how he couldn't wait for spring. his head turned as the healer approached,
"i slept... as usual, not to well after the depressing hunting turn out yesterday. today will be no better i assume." his voice dry as he spoke, his orange eyes landing on the healer. he must be terribly bored, or something, coming over here to speak, unless he wants to hunt. a healer hunting, is that what we've come to? that almost made him chuckle, but he didn't, keep it in as always, his face and eyes dull.

Kendrick was debating whether to sit down or not , because sometimes others would say it was a good way to show disrespect . But they weren't chatting about anything quite of importance yet , so he might as well just sit back and relax while he chatted with the fellow pack members . " Well that's too bad . Glad you were thinking of us though . But try and get some rest tonight , we healers don't need to be checking on you for insomnia now . "" He joked , then waited a bit to answer her question when she asked him how he slept . I guess you could say I was in a deep freeze instead of sleep . I slept rather well , I just woke up extremely cold due to the ragged pelt of mine . Short fur and all , the frost got to my core . Now my legs are sore . " He sighed , his ears beginning to pin back on his head , until Crow began to speak . " Ah , my apologies . I hope the hunts become much better than they were . The snow has probably killed everything before we could . " Kendrick replied , then stood up and stretched once again . He would probably be doing that ocasionally .

LBATROSS

This felt like one of those mornings. You know, the ones where you wake up feeling awful and know you'll be feeling awful for the remainder of the day? With this wolf that was in no way an understatement. This weird dull throbbing pain seemed to pound on her, starting from her brain and working down her back and sides. Mornings were always taken very slowly, to ensure that the large white beast did not show off any more of her weaknesses then she needed to. A quiet whimper passed her lips as she pulled herself to her large paws, dark eyes drifting over the slumbering wolves around her to be sure none were awake enough to notice. Starting from her pale nose and along her spine she started to shake herself awake. The pained expression slowly left her face as she stretched out and started for the opening to the dens. The cold air hit her like a freight train, causing her to retreat for a moment back into the warmth. She simply was not made for this kind of weather. Her eyes closed slowly as she drew a deep breath into her lungs before stepping back out into the light. Like clockwork her ears folded back, the hair along her back standing on edge like a ridge along her spine. A low growl reverberated in her throat as she made her way through the snow toward the other lead hunter. He was already calling for a hunting party to commence and a frown pulled at her maw.

"It is far too early to function." She snarled, proud head held high and muscles tense. She would never try to overturn one of Crow's decisions, especially since she didn't trust herself to be able to make a better one. But she would certainly snark about them. "What makes you think the prey would be awake this early either? If any of them are still even around." It was so easy to be angry, especially when she often felt like she was dying. And the longer this winter lasted the more she began to shake. Hunger always seemed to make everything worse. Especially her mood. "Shall we get-" She paused a moment, as her teeth had begun to chatter in the cold. Freaking annoying short fur. How was it that all of her siblings and parents had such long thick fur and hers was so short? She doubted it had anything to do with being albino. Goodness... "Shall we get going?" She spoke again, though her tone was much more demanding than it was questioning, as her dark gaze drifted from wolf to wolf.

_Nike's ebony ears flicked as the sounds of waking wolves entered his dreams of wandering. His mind still dimmed by sleep registered the sound of Morning Rain howling to wake the pack up. He sighed, opening his eyes to reveal his glimmering silver eyes. The brute made no move to get up and simply remained where he was, head on his paws, gazing around the den as a few wolves rose to answer the call of the cream alphess. Only when a tremor shook the earth beneath him did he stand, a small growl escaping his jaws as he was taken by surprise. "I'll never get used to those things..." the brute growled quietly, he had been here for some time now, but the shaking never ceased to cause a wave of uneasiness over him. Of course he would never voice this thought to one of his fellow pack mates, instead putting up a facade of disdain towards the whole thing.

Shaking off the slight worry from the unsteady ground beneath his paws he padded through the tunnel into the main cavern. His eyes drifted over the woken wolves wandering around the area, they paused on the snowy entrance to the cave. He was grateful for the warmth within the cave, even though he wasn't sure where it came from. The brute let out a yawn, his white canine flashing in the dim morning light that came in through the entrance. His eyes rested on Crow and Morning Rain speaking, he wondered if they'd be able to catch anything, since most of the herds had already fled the surrounding area. A pang of hunger and a sharp growl from his stomach reminded him of the serious lack of food, he couldn't remember the last time he'd had more than a few mouthfuls of food, barely able to satisfy his hunger.

"keep running. you know you can't forever, but just keep running." the earth-toned wolf snarled, flashing his canines. but before lily could react in her dream, the image darted away. it shifted to that of blackness. different colors danced behind her eyelids. but still in a dream, lily snapped awake. this time, she was in the middle of a forest. she was still a loner. then she heard a wolf, her howl. it was then that she realized it was time to wake up. the young, grey, female huntress woke to the sound of her alpha's howl. yes, the same howl from her dream was the real howl morning rain had emitted. her sleep-filled eyes peeled apart to reveal lovely golden eyes. her pupils dilated with the morning sun. the low growl of crow told her she needed to stretch and get moving. so, lily quickly rose and stretched her exhausted limbs. she was always working slightly harder, just because she caught her own food, along with the food the rest of the pack ate. she caught her own food because otherwise she wouldn't eat. the way she was raised, she caught her own food. anyways, upon leaving her den, her pelt was illuminated with sunlight. the light highlighted each of the snowflakes that had snuck upon her coat. they were soon joined by more. her eyes instantly flew to the ebony pelt that belonged to her superior. she found that he was speaking with the alpha. not too long after she spotted them, the healer approached. she was beat to them by the healer.
she began to walk over to her superior, her alpha, and the healer when albatross meandered over as well. lily had never really taken to the sour attitude that the other female had. but she didn't let that falter her as she meandered over. "good morning, crow." she greeted quietly as she walked over.

the pass was filled with snow. Kione stared at it in dismay. He didn't need to try to make his way through it in order to know that he wasn't leaving from here until the snow melted; a mere glance told him that this act, heroic it might be in its sheer determination, was nonetheless a fool's errand to undertake. Likewise, he didn't need to travel north to the other exit to know that it would be similarly blocked; doing so would be only a waste of time and energy better spent bracing himself for the worst of the winter.
-----Kione was just resigning himself to a fate of waiting in misery for the snow to melt — it was settled: he was going to leave the moment he could and he was never coming back — when he became aware of a presence behind him. He had been so absorbed in his thoughts that he hadn't noticed the other loner until several moments after he normally would have.
-----He turned, forcing himself to make the act nonchalant. "Hello," he said casually, even as he warily took in the she-wolf. Luck was on his side; she did not seem to harbor any malicious intentions toward him and seemed more anxious than anything else. If she had bore him ill will, he would have been at her mercy for the moments it took for him to realize that she was there. "Bummer, isn't it?" he said, nodding toward the blocked pass. "I was hoping I could get out of this hellhole, but it seems we're all stuck here until the snow melts."

xxxxxxxxxx A small smile pulled at her lips. They both seemed to be afraid and timid of each other, as most loners were. Always afraid of one being hostile to the other. A world without rank meant anyone could be as dominant as an alpha, or timid as an omega. There were no such titles here.
xxxxxxxxxx "Yes, it is unfortunate. Looks like you just missed you chance too. That's fresh snow from the mountains." She commented on the wall of snow that kept them in. Only days earlier, she had entered the valley through the same pass. Ellie would not be leaving until the next spring.
xxxxxxxxxx Ellie then registered that she had not introduced herself to the brute in front of her. With a small smile of white, she continued. "My name's Ellie, by the way. Who are you?" She asked, taking a few steps closer to the stranger, while still giving him whatever personal space he needed. She didn't want to push her luck.

xxxxxxxxxx Char woke up at the base of a wet, mossy boulder. His coal black coat seemed like a shadow below the rock, with only his gleaming amber eyes to distinguish him from the dark. He rose, shaking off the dew and dust that had settled on him during his slumber. Char felt hunger pull him into a hunters crouch, his nose twitching as he scanned for a scent. Luckily for him, this forest wasn't as bare as he had dreaded. He could smell field mice everywhere.
xxxxxxxxxx Now, one field mouse won't do much good as a meal for a wolf. But twenty field mice ought to do it. Char spent a good amount of time rounding up and feasting on as many mice as he could find. Picking out the little bones was the bother with them, but Char would get what he could. Perhaps he would find a more satisfying lunch elsewhere.
xxxxxxxxxx The rouge started towards the forest he had been heading to for three days now. He heard that the last of the herds had been heading there as the last haven for miles. If Char was to find food, it would be there. He stopped at a creek he passed to get some water when he smelt it. This creek was not just a small trickling of water. It was frequently visited by deer, rabbit and wolf. There were wolves in these trees, the last place Char ever wanted to be. He was in a Pack's territory.

kione eyed Ellie with interest in spite of himself. She was unlike any other loner he had ever known, seeming willing to walk up to a stranger and strike up a conversation with him. He wasn't sure whether he was admiring her nerve or her stupidity, though he was leaning strongly toward the latter. Kione himself wasn't the confrontational type when he knew he could stay out of trouble and avoid risking his own hide; there was no reason in going around and picking fights when you could just as easily put yourself far out of harm's way. Some might call it cowardly of him, but for him it was only common sense. He'd avoided encounters with bears and hostile wolves while he was growing up — a young pup made for easy pickings, after all — and the habit had stuck with him ever since.
-----"Kione," he replied. Conversationally, he continued, "Next time you shouldn't run up to someone you don't know. It's not a very good idea. They might not be as nice as me." He smiled ironically as he said this last part, for he knew that he was far from nice. But Ellie didn't need to know that yet.

When the silence occurred, she wasn't sure what to do. This was always where she fell apart. The silence after she tried to joke around. Perhaps she offended him in some way? Flattening her ears, Zephyr cleared her throat, "Well, I better get going. The hunters haven't left yet and I'm starving.." She stood up and trotted away, eager to excuse herself from that awkward scene she created. Zep stopped in the middle of camp and took a big breath, then looked around. Slowly, one by one, they were groggily waking from their slumber. She spotted Nike and dipped her head. Possibly he would be open for a conversation later on. But now, the white fae was starving, and she had to eat something.

Slipping off into the woods, which was what she did best, Zephyr lowered her nose to the ground. She noted a small scent trail. Taking a few more whiffs, she was able to identify it. Wood mouse. It wasn't a great source of food, but it was surely something. Zep stalked closer, her auburn eyes darting to catch any movement of the small rodent. It was easier for her to hunt in winter, as you can imagine, with her white pelt. But in the other seasons, when the surroundings are brown, black and green, she stood out like a sore thumb and prey could make a run for it. She lowered herself into a crouching position, her stomach just above the snow. She kept still, watching the mouse ever-so-hungrily. {pardon my grammar if that is not correct} When the small creature became aware of her presence, it leapt in the air out of shock that it hadn't noticed her sooner, and went to dive into its burrow. With her cat-like reflexes, or wolf-like as I should say, she reached out with her front right paw and caught the tail of the mouse under it. It squirmed and squeaked, but the femme paid no attention to its adorable little noises. Her hunger had become too much, and she had to put it to an end. A devilish grin came across her face, which was covered in mud, because when she slid to catch her prey, she had uncovered the moist earth from under the snow. Zephyr quickly ended the mouse's life. She was not the type to slowly kill it and make it suffer. She liked to keep it clean and quick.

She decided to eat while she was alone, because if the Alpha saw she had gone "hunting," she might be scorned for her actions. Zephyr wasn't usually the shady type, but when she was this hungry and she found food, she wasn't idiotic enough to share the news. With a few big gulps, all that was left of the mouse were a few bones and pieces of fur scattered all over the place. She stood and ran her tongue along her lips, picking up any last bit of meat. Then she made her way back to camp, hoping she hadn't been gone too long to seem suspicious.

xxxxxxxxxxShe felt a taste of bitter distrust in his voice. Ellie was always optomistic. She was born a pack wolf, and being a loner was hard for her. As the name implies, she was alone. Ellie had only run in to a few wolves over the long months, and each she had approached as carefully as possible. Being a petite fae, she didn't pose much of a threat to others and never was given much trouble.
xxxxxxxxxx "You shouldn't worry about me. I do just fine. I'm not as stupid as you might think." She said with a hint of insulted sarcasm. The brute had seemed friendly enough, but his appeal was quickly fading. Ellie had hoped he would have been more polite.
