Name: "Name? Oh, right. Right. My name is Jiro. Yes, that's right Jeer-oh. It's Japanese. It means second son. After my brother was born, I guess my mother didn’t have enough creativity to come up with anything else Hmph."
Age: "I was born five years ago. Well, five years, five months, and three weeks, if you want to be exact, but I don't think anyone is going to ask after the exact day of my birth. Most just want to know that you're young and fit."
Gender: "I'm a male, I assure you. Don't let the curly exterior make you think any differently. I used to get called a female a lot when around other males of my type.”
Pack: "No, I don’t belong to a pack. I’m very much of a loner.”

Description:Jiro is the rare brown hyena. Yes, it is indeed a breed. What does that mean for him? Well, he stands slightly smaller at only thirty inches tall and weighs ninety pounds. He looks much different due to his long, thick brown fur that covers his body, instead of the short, golden fur of the normal striped or spotted hyena. His eyes are a light golden, and while he does have black stripes down his light brown legs, that’s the only marking on his body. He has a short, stumpy tail and large, teardrop shaped ears.


"ＳＩＮＫ ＩＮＴＯ ＴＨＥ ＳＯＩＬ. ｗａｔｃｈ ｔｈｅ ｗａｔｅｒ ｂｏｉｌ."

Disposition: To start off, Jirou is extremely deceiving. He wears a sweet smile and weaves gentle words to put in the ears of his pack mates and strangers, making himself seem like a hyena who will always be there to lean on and who you can tell anything to. As soon as you tell him your deepest secrets or treasured memories, however, that trust you've put in him breaks and he'll immediately go to the alpha or a friend, relaying all of the information he's learned about that particular hyena to him. That is, if it's important for him to know. Needless to say, the male has to have intelligence and an amazing ability to control his actions and speech in order to become this sweet, friendly gentleman that any hyena would love.

Jirou has a completely different persona lurking under the smiles and friendly gestures, a hyena that he only shows to those who have done something wrong in his eyes (which, let's face it, could be a lot of things). It's the cold-blooded, ruthless, apathetic male that yearns to come out and smash those around him, and it's this hyena he starts to let out when he's doing his job. In his natural state, Jirou is an angry, judgmental, forceful hyena with a wish to kill the ignorant or cowardly strays and keep his place in the pack among the 'better' of his species. He'll do anything to get it, too, as he's an extremely determined hyena, and when he sets his mind to something, it's best to just get out of his way.

Jirou relies heavily on his emotions to show him the way. While he's angry, he snaps and snarls at those around him. Happy, he'll stretch out in the sun and let life pass him by. Sadness only brings out anger, as does envy or impatience. Neutrally, he puts on that mask of contentedness and weaves his way through the strays, befriending them to determine who is weak and who is strong and reporting his findings back to his beloved leader. Despite all the evidence pointing away from it, the poodle does have a heart, even if it is buried beneath several protected layers. He has the ability to love, though does not express it to anyone, as he believes no one could possibly feel the same way about him.

The last thing to know about Jirou (and the last thing you might learn about him in life) is that this is a hyena who is quick to act and without thinking of the consequences. Cause him to be angry, even if you don't know it, you'll get a muzzle full of teeth pressed against your throat while you're thrown off of your paws without even knowing what's hit you. He will give no warning that you've upset him or that he's going to seriously maim you. Oh no. Jirou does not think that threats and warnings are a good waste of time.


"ＴＨＥＹ ＷＯＮ'Ｔ ＳＥＥ ＭＥ ＲＵＮ. ｗｈｏ ｃａｎ ｂｌａｍｅ ｔｈｅｍ？"

History: Jiro was born to a mother who, in everyone’s opinion, was much too young to have a litter of puppies. She worked to prove herself to them, though was finally chased out of her clan when she refused to give them to another hyena after they were born. Alone and without any help, her health quickly began to deteriorate, and because of this, so did her pups. Jiro was the strongest of the five, and the only one in his family to survive the next year.

He was young when he was sentenced to a life on his own. WIP
