she grazed beside Devil and asked "Do we have a lead mare yet"?

Jace watched over his herd and made sure they were safe.

Devil cocked his head as he looked at Iris. "Where?" He asked her questioningly, though he was quite certain of his answer. Looking at Meadow, he shook his head. "No. Not yet." Meadow seemed like a mellow enough horse, but she seemed pretty dependant and quiet. He needed someone to take charge, that he could trust to continue leading his herd, and be savvy enough to know when to hand out a punishment, when to let, and when to forgive. For that, Meadow seemed a bit lacking as she didnt feel like one who handled stress well.

Of course, Iris did not have those problems, but with her personality would come a lot more problems. She was too rash, and she would have to evaluate places carefully. Also, he couldnt have a lead mare that went running off every now and then, a lead mare had to stay with the herd, even when they travelled they had to take note of everything, in order to find new, safe spots to take the herd. And so, he knew not what to do.

(Can I stall on choosing a lead mare? No offense to the two mares in his herd, but both dont have two necessary requirements Im looking for.)

Iris snorted. She cried a loud neigh for her sister hoping she would come.

Rose, hearing Iris's call sped over to the mare. "You hurt" she asked questioningly looking at Devil.

Devil gave a snort at Rose's assumption, though he ignored it. Instead, he neighed, telling them they were moving. He broke into a trot on the island, leading them to somewhere else safe, with grass and water. His ginger tail floated in the air, a signal for all to see.

Rose followed behind Devil. "You know, if we go forward thats tiger territory, but if we swim to an island off here its a safer place."

Iris looked at Devil's tail, "Why are you doing that?"
