Kestrel watched an elk from the bushes. His tail wagged slowly and he bent his legs. He narrowed his eyes before leaping with a terrifying bark. The elk herd began to run in the opposite direction in fear. Kestrel saw a mother nudging her baby away and the baby looked very young and fragile. Kestrel charged at the mother and baby before leaping onto the mother's back. The mother screeched in fear and ran opposite from the herd. The baby followed unsure of what to do. Kestrel waited until the mother was far enough from the heard before leaping off her back and standing in between her and the herd. The baby stayed close to its shaky mother. Kestrel growled and leapt at the baby sending a shrill scream through the air. Kestrel pinned the weak baby to the ground with his weight. He went to bite into the baby's neck when he felt sharp hooves kick into his side. He staggered off the baby and looked up at the mother. This elk had some nerve. Then again it was caring for its child. Kestrel leapt up at the mother, scratching the side of her long neck angrily. He turned to the baby and leapt up at its side, biting into its shoulder and hanging on. The baby's legs gave out and it fell to its death as Kestrel began to tear at its neck with his claws. Kestrel turned to the mother once he knew the baby was dead. The mother was already running off, last, upset, and scared. Kestrel snickered before bolting after it at full speed. Each paw step in front of the other was important as he chased the quick mother elk. Kestrel jumped up at the mother elk's side and scratched her side with his claws. He fell onto the ground and did a roll before jumping back up at the female elk. He could see the grazing herd ahead thinking that nothing had happened even though they lost a precious female and its child. Kestrel leapt up and bit into the female's butt before forcing his weight back, slowing her down. Kestrel climbed onto her back and felt her run around helplessly. She screamed loudly and sent the herd darting like before. Kestrel wrapped his jaws around the mother's neck without letting go. Eventually she fell down, suffocated, and died. Kestrel went back and collected the baby. He brought it back to camp before returning to collect the mother.
