Blue Sky Mine

Wittenoom doesn't exist, not anymore.

It was a town, long, long ago. Its mine was the main force breathing life into the Australian economy. As well as breathing life, the blue asbestos mine was taking lives, also.

Human, and canine.

It was a threat for everyone, so the Government took away Wittenoom's power and de-gazetted them. The government had also said those that had contracted diseases from the asbestos had to stay, and die in peace. People refused to leave, as they were patriotic to their home, and their family.

This looked bad on the Government's record. They needed to get the people out, now.

But how do you get someone out of somewhere if they refuse to leave?

You kill them.

So that night, the military was sent in, on the orders to kill every man, woman and child.

The mission was a success, mostly. Bodies of residents were loaded up onto trucks, to be burnt somewhere out in the desert, everything watched by the one thing that the military had forgotten.

The canines.

The company CSR discovered the existence of the canines many years later, capturing each and every one and putting them straight to work, mining the blue asbestos. Human rights policies only applied to humans, as the name suggests. Who would care if a company was using animals in a long forgotten town to make a profit?

No one does.

No one really understood how the canines managed to survive. Though, it is said natural selection played a part. The canines with a natural immunity to the asbestos lived, while the others died later on.

They continued to evolve, becoming larger, faster, stronger and naturally more aggressive towards the human race. Purebred canines were difficult to find, but there were a few here and there. Most had cross-bred to keep the population going, but some had been pickier than others, only breeding with their own breed.

When they were caught, the dogs were sorted into different groups; the Diggers, the Harvesters and the Warriors.

The Diggers were the powerhouses, digging the mines, making tunnels for the Harvesters to walk through, and for the Warriors to patrol. The Diggers are mostly male, but bigger breed females (Great Dane, Mastiff, et cetera) can be granted the job as Digger.

The Harvesters were the quicker dogs, running around and mining out the asbestos. They were either gender, tending to be a little smaller than the Diggers. It didn't really matter what breed you were, anyone was fit to be a Harvester.

The Warriors were the strongest (and possibly the scariest) of the canines that worked in the mines. They were either promoted from being a Digger or Harvester, or sometimes even chosen from training to be a Warrior. It was a fancy name for Security, for they stopped intruders coming into the mines and unwillingly, not letting anyone out.

One dog was elected as the leader of the canines, and he has found a way out, sending dogs out of the mine and into the desert. There, the canines have met a dingo, who helped them form a pack. They named themselves the 'Blue Sky Miners'.

CSR is becoming suspicious, as their canine count is going down, slowly. Dogs are becoming unruly and escaping in the hundreds.

Will you escape the mine, or will CSR find out and force you to perish in the dirt?

The Territory of the Blue Sky Miners is rather simple. It is sandy, hot and mostly dry, consisting of plants such as cacti, brittlebrush, ironwood and Joshua trees, jumping Cholla, Bursage and desert grass. Water is available, and the pack has situated their camp a small distance away, as there is ample prey that drinks at the small stream that goes through. The water runs down from the mountain, where the mine is dug. The pack uses empty tortoise dens as their own, having a few different ones situated around the stream. An example of a den is here. Their diet consists of bilbies, joeys, sick or old kangaroos, young, sick or old camels, various lizards, quoll, rats, mice, numbats, marsupials and phascogales.

The mining dogs are kept underground in a dusty, dungeon-like cave when they are not working. The dungeon is connected to many tunnels, streaming out. They are fed well, are provided with water everywhere and have ample bedding. They are provided with high protein meals, as well as normal dog food.

⇨ Name: Archimedes
⇨ Age: 3 years, 4 months
⇨ Gender: Male
⇨ Ranking: Leader of the Miners

⇨ Breed: Alaskan Malamute x German Shepherd
⇨ Eye Colour: Archimedes' eyes are a chocolate brown.
⇨ Distinctive Markings: Archimedes has a few scars. He has a few on his paws from being a Digger, and a few across his pelt from rocks hitting him whilst he dug.
⇨ General Description: Archimedes is quite a large dog, in all aspects. Large build, large head and large ears. His fur is a mixture of chocolate brown, light brown, white and tan. His muzzle is long, being mostly tan with white flecks underneath, and dark brown at the top. His eyes are brown, the closer one to the iris it gets, the more brown and chocolatey his eyes are. Archimedes doesn't have any major scars, just a few here and there, mostly from his past job as a Digger.

⇨ History: Archimedes was born to a litter of six, and was the runt of the litter, being the smallest of his siblings. He was always the last to be fed, and the last to be picked in games. When he had just turned 12 months old, his five siblings died due to the asbestos, as well as his mother. It seemed that his father had the right genetic strain to keep both himself and his son alive, and the two stayed together until CSR came and captured them. When they arrived at the mine, the two dogs were split, Archimedes sent to be a Digger, and his father a Harvester. Unfortunately, Archimedes' father passed away a week later, and Archimedes was left alone. It was here that he vowed that he would find a way out for everyone, and allow them to escape the mines.
During his breaks, he would search around, digging in places where he was not supposed to, and attempt to find an opening. It took him a few weeks, but he managed to dig a way out, where he met and struck a deal with a dingo, who offered to take the dogs that escaped, if they were willing to join his pack. Archimedes enthusiastically agreed, and the deal was made. When he returned, and announced the news to the other dogs, they quickly made him their leader, and he began to send dogs out to the dingo, to join his pack. He intends to be the last out of the mines, or die getting everyone else out.
⇨ Personality: To start, Archimedes is an extremely determined character, sticking to a task until it is completed above and beyond expectations. He is kind and gentle, but can be very indecisive when it comes to the decisions regarding who to send outside, and who to keep. He can get snappy when he is angry, but he is rather patient, and very hard to crack under pressure. Archimedes can be a little bit cryptic in what he says, but he keeps his decisions and actions justified, if he feels like it, of course.

⇨ Eye Colour: Athena has icy blue eyes.
⇨ Distinctive Markings: Due to the nature of her work, Athena has multiple scars running along her body, which are hidden underneath her fur. Some are larger than others, and others are deeper, depending on how hard the rocks hit her.
⇨ General Description: Athena is absolutely massive. She stands just under a metre tall, with rather big paws and legs. Her coat is short and smooth, coloured a mahogany brindle with white. She has icy blue eyes, which seemed to be hidden under a small fold of skin which covers the majority of her eyes. She's very strong, as Saint Bernard's are known to participate in weight pulling competitions and carting.

⇨ History: Athena was born to a litter of three, her two siblings dying at birth. Her mother was extremely upset, disowning Athena, much to the displeasure of Athena's father, who left her mother a few days later. Athena lived alone, feeding off scraps and roadkill, growing and growing until she was absolutely huge. A few days before her capture, Athena had gotten really close with a male canine, whom she was separated from on the day of their capture. She was (rather unwillingly) put straight to work as a Digger, and has been working as one ever since.
⇨ Personality: Athena is very laid back and calm, due to her placid nature. She's hard to excite, or anger, but she can be a bit too laid back when it comes to her job. Athena is a little bit lazy, and needs a little bit of encouragement to continue working. She's patient and kind, tending to take time just to talk to any dog, especially when they're feeling down in the dumps. Despite her appearance, Athena is very intelligent and logical, though she does not like to make this know. It's her 'secret weapon' per se.

⇨ Distinctive Markings: Silhouette has one rather large scar down his left side, due to a territorial fight.
⇨ General Description: Silhouette has a broad head, erect ears and a pointed muzzle. He has chocolate brown eyes, and rather long teeth, longer than a domestic canine. His fur is short and bushy around the tail, coloured a dusty orange.

⇨ History: Silhouette was a part of a pack which had twelve dingoes in it; the alpha pair and their pups, and Silhouette's family. He lived with them for a while, being one of the best hunters in their group. When he was old enough, Silhouette left, wandering the desert for over a year. He then met a domestic dog, and struck a bargain with him, and his pack was formed. He was the self-elected Alpha.
⇨ Personality: Silhouette is always out to impress. He is boisterous and courageous, trying to earn the respect of the other canines in his pack. He can be kind, but he's usually too busy trying to keep his pack on one piece to properly talk to any dogs. He is a little impatient, flirtatious and cheeky.

⇨ General Description: Holly is a small and lanky dog, having the slender build of a greyhound, but the fur and colouration of a border collie. Her muzzle is long and pointed, her paws overly large, as well as her head. Her ears are slightly lopsided, one being larger than the other, and her back left middle toe is missing, due to a genetic fault in her bloodlines.

⇨ History: Holly was born, and abandoned at birth. She grew up on scraps, and tended to flee from other canines instead of fighting them for territory. She traveled a lot, before she was captured by CSR and sent to work as a harvester. Lucky for her, Archimedes chose her as one of the first canines to join Silhouette's pack.
⇨ Personality: Holly is very quiet and insecure, tending to flee instead of fight. She loves to hunt, and spends hours hunting out in the desert. She doesn't talk to many dogs, and is known for her patience. She is very logical and intelligent.
