Dahlia slept in her thicket. She had decided to bed early, seeing as the day was relatively uneventful and unexciting. All days leading up to mating season were like that for Dahlia. At least she had gotten to eat plenty of vegetation, which would ensure that she would make it through the winter a little more easily than others who had not spent so much time grazing and browsing and fattening up. As Dahlia slept, she dreamed of of her fawn and frolicking through the meadows with him when he was little. Then her dreams shifted to the father of the fawn. His memory in her was not as clear. He had been mysterious, romantic, and had swept her far away from her herd to be with him. But her stay with him had been short. After two or three days, he had disappeared as mysteriously as he had come. Dahlia stirred uneasily as it shifted to a nightmare of desperately looking for her mate, only to realize he was gone for good and that he had most likely abandoned her on purpose after he had gotten what he wanted. As she slept, a tear rolled down Dahlia's cheek.

Aster was embarrassed since no one answered her question. To make things seem less awkward, she walked a little ways down the deer path where they were gathered. She felt a little sad and missing her old herd. She tried to think of a way to keep away her bitter feelings, then she spotted a bright crisp red apple handing low on a branch. She trotted over to the apple tree excitedly, then put both front hooves on the trunk and tried to reach up as far as she could. Unfortunately, she couldn't reach high enough. Aster tried stretching her neck out a little more, but it upset her balance and her hoof slipped, sending Aster crashing to the ground. Aster gasped and quickly got to her feet before anyone could notice that she had fallen. Although no one could see her, her cheeks blushed red hot.
