I hopped cautiously through a large meadow. My stomach growled as I found a small piece of rosemary. I nibbled contently. The sun was setting, I had to find somewhere to sleep. I sat on my two back legs and washed my face, my stomach sticking out. My kits will be born in about a month from now I whispered to myself. The chilly wind blew through my thick fur coat. I shivered slightly. Must find somewhere warm and dry I was getting worried now.

Twig leaned up towards the sky, a slightly stale scent hit his nose. Just a blackbird. He pushed back down and stretched, tired now. At least in the herd it was safe to sleep. Hopping back down the meadow he approached the rim of his burrow, placing two pale paws onto the dusty ground, he pulled out, shook, and leaned to the ground, a bunch of leaves now clumped into his mouth. The buck shook dry mud off of them and waddled inside, placing it at the end of his burrow. He continued building the warm nest, carrying feathers, twigs, and leaves inside to make a neat clump, then he curled up on top of it and fell asleep.

Fern watched her brother, 'No wonder he's been acting strange...it must have been days without rest by now.' she looked up to the sky and pushed her wet paws up to her face, clearing it. Her body still showed signs of stained blood and scratches, from earlier fights while they were loners, but none stung now. Kicking off the ground to stride towards her burrow, she sat outside and sniffed the air, before pushing a pile of dried leaves and feathers inside, she'd complete it when she needed the sleep, but she'd rather explore at the time being. Bounding down alongside the lake-shore she lapped at the water, and lifted her head back up high, streaming off down into the further meadows. After a while she settled down and nibbled at some stems, before a harsh scent was brought to her, eyes widened she spun 'round, a fox snarled, legs wide apart as it crouched, ready to spring. Fern gulped down her food and clawed at the ground, frozen with fear, but, managing to get to her senses she kicked up out of the dirt and spun through the air, landing on her legs neatly as she raced off through the grass, the predator at her heels, luckily she spotted a thin crack in the hills, and splashing through the puddles she squeezed through just in time, sighing with relief as the fox snapped at the ground and reared out, giving up on it's prey. She poked her nose out to make sure it was gone, but waited a few more minutes until she was convinced, but still paranoid.

Alpine crawled slowly, but cautiously towards the rabbits.

Fern sighed and hopped slowly out, shock fuzzing up her fur. She began setting up her pace and raced towards her burrow, throwing herself inside in a hurry as she messed about with the bedding.

I sat by the river, the sun almost set. My ears were perked high, listening out for the dangers of the night. I smelt the air. The harsh scent filled my nose. I turned around a fox lay low in the grass, my ears flattened and my claws dug into the soft earth I couldn't get myself to move. I froze with fear. With widened eyes the fox lept at me, I finally got myself to turn and run away. The fox was too close for my comfort. Come on Come on! I was getting frustrated. I felt jaws clamp on my tail, I went limp. The fox of course thought I was dead and got a hold of my stomach. The canines clamped loosely around my stomach. I wriggled free once it was loose enough. I sped away with a partially bald tail and a few cuts along my flank.I'm lucky to be alive I thought. My kits! I began to lick my stomach to feel for the three tell tale kicks. 1....2.... Then nothing happened. I began to cry. I had lost a valuable kit. I hopped around for a bit and came to a dusty area filled with holes (The den site) I climbed inside a deserted hole and curled up in the hay, grass, twigs and feathers. I slept there for the night.

Twig's ears perked, his eyes opened tiredly, he could barely see in the dusty dark burrow, but instead closed his eyes to let sleep drift back into him. The wind tugged at his white fur, the ground covered in thick, white snow. He screened his eyes across the meadows, before looking at his tiny paws, he was a kit again, in the old camp site he once called his home, Fern was curved, fast asleep, and his black and white mother tussled with the white pelt of his father, he squealed, snow thudding into his face and covering him with chills, it was a dreadful memory, he noted as he stood forwards, the skies grew cloudy and turned dark, deep rain pouring down, the rabbits parted, both bleeding from the fight. They turned separate ways and bounded off, the rain wetting them down. Twig forced himself awake, not wanting to remember the rest, he huffed and poked his nose out of the burrow, distress scents coming from Fern's hole. He pushed out and hopped over, "Fern?" The buck called, and a sound of movement made way. "Y-yes?" She pushed her head out. "Uh...I'm fine, just a fox." She continued and pulled back inside, he could hear the rustling of her nest, and deciding she was okay, went to find a clump of herbs or grass to eat. 'I can't believe one illness could wipe out the whole herd' he sighed and nibbled at a rosemary stem, before bounding down to the river and lapping up a drink.

Fern scattered about, her brother seemed startled, but she didn't bother him. Poking out of the burrow she hopped over to find someone to talk to, shivering with fright.

I heard small foot steps from the outside world as I forced myself awake, I tended to my wounds and peered outside. There was another rabbit and I look further and there was another one. I climbed out. My ginger fur would be no help here. I tried to sneak away but the crunch of the snow may alert then. I carried on slowly placing my tiny paws carefully. My stomach dragging me down. I was frustrated and kept a close eye on them. As soon as I could go no further in the deep snow. I dug to the ground and curled up into a ball in my tiny hole. My breathe became slowly as I tried to conserved energy. I licked my stomach again. 1.....2..... Still two kits, that's a relief I curled into a tighter ball, snow beginning to stain slowly with red.

Fern stopped dead, a stranger's scent hitting her nose - confused, she huddled forwards, almost falling on-top of something furry below. Leaping backwards through the air in surprise, she fell onto her side and struggled back up. "H-hello?" She sniffled, scarcely seeing a small ginger shape.

Twig hopped back to his burrow, pausing at the rim before curling up and sleeping.

I looked up, I saw a fuzzy shape, my eyes still adjusting to the light. Hello? I staggered to my feet and onto a hink layer of snow Sorry if scared you! I sat down my wounds still bleeding, but only just. The icy wind blew threw my fur, I shivered again and washed my face. I was curious but scared and cautious.
