I sat still frozen, the hawk saw me. I raced away in fright but heading in the wrong direction, heading away from the clan. I darted from side to side trying to avoid its talons. I squeaked as it land beside, missing me only just. I raced the other way and towards the river. I looked up, the hawk still soared and dived down towards me. I decided to take the leap of faith and swam. The current was strong but I latched onto a rock to catch my breath. The hawk was relentless. I squeaked again and swam the rest of the way. I was separated from my kits. I sighed and dashed for cover. The hawk soon gave up and I sat down licking my fur dry and rolling in the dirt. I panted heavily, "How would my kits cope?" I thought. "Jack is most probably still in his den!" I added.

I awoke from my slumber, I yawned and claw outside. My first day. It was bright and I squeaked a little. I stretched out, my legs were stronger I could finally manage the soft earth. I smiled and hopped about, looking at all the others. I stood on my hind legs trying to spot the one that could be my mother.
