Running loose on the edge(human, tame, and wild horse)

May sighed she could look at it but of course no one knew that. She waited for the other vet and looked toward the mare in the pasture.

Adam nodded and prepared a slide with some of the blood in it to go under a microscope. After viewing it several times and making down several notes on a notecard, he looked up. "I'm afraid this mare has been bitten by a poisonous snake" he says. "Here is my notecard of instructions. Use it otherwise the mare will die. I've seen this before." He hands Dominic the notecard. It read, "Feel up and down the mare's leg for signs of pain. If displaying, treat with antiseptic. If not, prepare for an amputation of the leg."

May nodded and said "Thank you Adam." She read the card over his shoulder and slowly walked over to the mare and said "Hi girl."

Adam smiled as he watched May. She was a pretty girl. He liked how she had a way with horses. "Your welcome" he says, following her to the mare.

Xenia lazily opened one eye and nickered a greeting. Her leg looked a bit lifeless as it hung down now.

''No amputation, a horse can't live with 3 legs. Ok, antiseptic will do'' Dominic said. ''Thanks Adam'' he said smiling. ''Now where will I get that antiseptic?''

Adam looked at Dominic. "It's the only way. I've treated horses who have had successful amputations. Yes, it will lessen her life span and she may even have to remain in captivity for the rest of her life. Would you like to have a horse on this property with a lifeless limb? I've treated a horse almost exactly like her. I promise you, she will be fine if you amputate it. If the leg is lifeless and the mare can't feel a thing, the toxins have killed off that leg."

May nodded and walked over to the mare and let her sniff her to know who it was. She walked behind her and stood next to her looking at the legs then bent over and pinching it hard knowing it would make a normal horse at least whinny if not kick.

Xenia sniffed the female and watched her. She saw the human squeeze her leg but she couldn't feel anything. Funny, it had been hurting just a while ago. She didn't move or make a noise.

''Well let's first see, I don't want to make decisions too fast'' Dominic said and looked worried at the mare.
