"Of course we can. I want us to still be friends, like we always were. I was just worried you would think because I was Beta we couldn't be friends anymore. So I was scared to talk to you." Comet felt bad for assuming that Zaxa would no longer allow their friendship to continue due to his rank. He should have known that she wasn't like that. Comet breathed a sigh of relief, now finally knowing that she didn't mind them being friends despite the fact he was Beta. Finally he could stop hiding from his own best friend.

"Good, I'd never want to loose you." the beta told her. Comet smiled and looked at his best friend with a soft gaze. He saw safety in her gentle gaze. But was she truly a friend? Did he feel more? Comet licked her on the cheek and pressed his fur against hers. He felt secure beside her, as if he were untouchable. The worries of his life drifted away, all the stress lifting off his shoulders.

I love you. Comet had been so close to forming those words until realization hit him. He was Beta, he had far more important things to worry about then faes. He would gladly be her friend but beyond that he knew would take away from his job. Comet had to put the pack before everything else and he knew that he would put Zaxa before the rest of his pack. "I... I... I'm sorry." Comet whimpered and ran away, his tail tucked between his legs.

Comet turned his head around and looked Zaxa in the eye. "I'm sorry..." he repeated and continued to run. He raced a few blocks then turned a corner into an ally way, sitting down on the cement floor. "She is just a friend of mine. I made a mistake, I got ahead of myself. I don't truly have feelings for her, do I? And even if I do then I she still can't be my mate, I'm the Beta. I have more important things to focus on." Comet mumbled to himself. He was so confused. No matter how hard Comet tried to tell himself it wasn't true he knew he had feelings for Zaxa. And because he did complicated everything.

Comet hesitated a moment then trotted back to Zaxa, thinking of what he was going to say. "Zaxa..." he began, his tail still tucked between his legs. "Look, I... I'm Beta now so even if... even if I do kinda have a crush on you that... that doesn't mean we could ever be mates. I have more important things to worry about then crushes and mates. And... I made a mistake ever thinking maybe one day it could be possible. I... I'm sorry. " Comet stuttered, trying to sound convincing that he truly didn't have feelings for her. But he did so that's that.
