When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Tears stream down on your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down on your face
And I...
Tears stream down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down on your face
And I...
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
You walk along, rounded ears pinned forward as you listen to the sounds of your target, a lone elk made slower by the deep snow. The snow has little effect on you, your large paws helping you to stay on top of it. Your pupils narrow into meer slits and you move into a crouch as you begin crawling ever closer to the struggling elk. Closer...Closer. Your haunches give a small wiggle as you gather yourself and then you are bounding forward, the elk realizing the situation only when it's too late. A bite to the neck is given, the trade mark killing style of a mountain lion. Attack without being seen and kill the prey before it has time to struggle or set off an alarm call. You begin eating quickly knowing something bigger could come along and steal your prey at any time. It seems hours before you are finished eating, belly distended and swollen looking, paws and muzzle bloodied from the meat, and eyes half closed in laziness. Not willing to pick yourself up onto your feet you settle down where you are and curl up in a ball, tucking your face behind your long tail hoping to warm up even on the snow. Nothing stirs you awake and you sleep for a while until suddenly a sharp pain can be felt in your thigh. You jolt awake a startled hiss escaping your maw as you look for the cause of this pain. Something sharp and feathered sticks from your muscled thigh and before you can go to pull it out you become drowsy and are pulled back into sleep unwillingly.
Waking up hours later you lay on the ground, something sharp jabbing into your side uncomfortably. It takes you a few moments to finally raise your head and look around. You lay on a large overhang near the lower part of a mountain. It's nice but unfamiliar which makes you apprehensive. You get to your paws slowly and peer down below, sharp eyes catching the sight of a truck parked below, people with binoculars watching your every move. When they see you are awake the truck roars to life and pulls away slowly almost like it doesn't want to leave. You can only watch as it leaves quietly, wondering why you had been taken from your kill and brought to some strange place. The reason is to preserve your species. To make Mountain Lions once more abundant. This, is where it will take place. A sanctuary that is thousands of miles large and protected from poachers and hunters looking to kill you and your cubs. There are wolves and bears here but there are also many more safe places to go, more places to make a den out of sight of these predators. There's plenty of room to roam and many more of your kind to be brought in. This is your chance at a safer life, a life lived with less fear, a life where a mate will perhaps be easier to find and more cubs able to be raised. This is your new life.
