Raven tries to catch her breath, having traveled for many miles from where her now former den was. She tried very hard not to shed tears, grieving over the loss of her mate after he became infected. She was a lucky one, not getting infected, only a couple weeks along carrying pups. After resting a couple minutes, she quietly pads on, hoping to find an uninfected pack she could hopefully join so that she and her unborn pups could be safe. She hides in the brush, upon seeing a dark colored wolf in the distance. Based on her observations, the wolf didn't appear sick or showing any unusual behavior, so it couldn't be infected. Swallowing hard, Raven quietly creeps on, her head and tail low as a signal that she isn't a threat.

Trace staggers along the trail, blood and foam dripping from his long, narrow jaws. He has been very hungry and had traveled a long way. He thought that good luck had struck him as he spots a tall blue-gray she wolf, emerging from the bushes. With a delighted smile, he waits on a ledge above, waiting for the right moment to pounce on her.
