I looked up at Icey, "I'm sure you would do the same." I said in a humble tone. I did not like to brag because I had so little to brag about! I looked over at Adessa as she exited the cave. I lifted my nose out of the patch of grass and looked around. It was strange how everything here was flourishing. The plants, the trees, the grass, the flowers were all so fresh! But I noticed for the first time how much the meadow lacked life. There were no hiding deer, no curious foxes. I hadn't even seen the delicate wings of a butterfly or even heard the annoying buzz of bees. Even the flies seemed rare here! I frowned and pawed the ground, not understanding why frustersted me. I normally knew at least a little bit but this situation dumbfounded me.

Icey flicked his ears in amusement. Fey was so modest! He watched Adessa emerge from the cave, and Architect standing in the water. Everything was peaceful... Too peaceful. Not another sign of fauna for miles. He hadn't even seen a bird. He felt like he'd walked into some strange universe that he couldn't escape, as if no matter how far he walked he would never see life. It made him uncomfortable to leave another horse alone, as if they might disappear to the strange presence here that seemed to sap all animal life. Fog rose in the distant fields, only magnifying the eeriness of the place. Fey had known about this place, and the caves. She'd been here before. "Fey, how do you know this place?" Icey turned to her, and swished his tail in curiosity.
